When the international break was finally over almost all the FPL managers eagerly waited for GW9 to get their FPL season back on track, but what followed was yet another week of disappointment with big names once again disappointing which meant the average points was a mere 37 points just 2 more than GW8 average score.
So let’s look into the 5 key talking points, interesting numbers and the AllAboutFPL dream team of GW9.
5 KEY TALKING POINTS FROM GW9:
- CHELSEA PUT ON A SOLID PERFORMANCE AGAINST NEWCASTLE
- BLADES IMPRESSIVE AGAINST ARSENAL AT HOME
- GREALISH INSPIRES VILLA TO VICTORY OVER BRIGHTON
- SPURS CONTINUE THEIR WOEFUL START TO THE SEASON
- LEICESTER CITY BEAT BURNLEY AMIDST VAR CONTROVERSY
1.CHELSEA PUT ON A SOLID PERFORMANCE AGAINST NEWCASTLE
Marcus Alonso well FPL managers can’t forget this man easily! and he was back on the scoresheet once again as chelsea won their fifth straight game of the season following a strong defensive performance at home.
Chelsea were unlucky to score only one goal which shows in their xG as well -2.30 with tammy abraham missing out on scoring in spite of having an xG of 0.90, meanwhile chelsea defenders put on a solid performance earning their second clean sheet of the season.
With some exciting fixtures coming up it looks like its highly essential to triple up on chelsea assets going forward in FPL
2.BLADES IMPRESSIVE AGAINST ARSENAL AT HOME
Win over arsenal at home, Fourth clean sheet of the season- joint highest with man city, sheffield could not have asked for a better start to their Premier league campaign.
Sheffield defense is proving to be a must own option with lundstram being the highest scoring defender so far with three more of his team mates joining the list to make sheffield defenders in the top 10 high scoring defenders this season,
Also not to forget Dean henderson who has scored thirty nine points so far just two behind the highest scoring goalkeeper this season which is rui patricio, with teams struggling to keep clean sheets this season sheffield defenders are essentially a must own considering their cheap pricing as well.
3.GREALISH INSPIRES VILLA TO VICTORY OVER BRIGHTON
Marked as one of the first teams to go down this year, Aston Villa have broken the 20L curse and made many critics eat their words with their amazing displays in the recent fixtures. The philosophy for the Villa park side has been simple but very effective.
They have a very hardworking philosophy off the ball, with the midfield acting as the engine room. The performances from Jack Grealish have been outstanding and he is finally starting to catch the eyes of many teams higher up the table.
Grealish scored one and set up another to inspire Villa to a hard fought victory over Potter’s Brighton. The Englishmen played like a man possessed by spirit he was everywhere and covered almost every blade of the grass, during that game.
The seaguls even thought they are had a great start to the game, they fell short again to keep the ball out of the net. The way they want to play is impressive and is much appreciated but there is still a lot of repair work needed if they are looking to finish mid table this season.
Kevin De Bruyne (29) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (28) are the only players have created more chances in the Premier League this season than Jack Grealish (25). He managed to add another 6 during this game and with more quality around him he can become one of the best midfielders of the league. Pascal Groß has managed to create 21 chances
4.SPURS CONTINUE THEIR WOEFUL START TO THE SEASON
Spurs where held at home by Watford the team that sits at the bottom of the table and even though they equalized at the dying moments of the game. The goal from Alli had controversy written all over it.
Watford started the game very well, putting the UCL runners up on the back foot by winning the ball high up the opposition half too many times. This caused many problems to spurs, who don’t have their first choice goalkeeper. This constant movement and pressure lead to a beautifully finished goal by Abdoulaye Doucouré during the sixth minute of the game and it ended 0-1 at half time.
During the second half it was all dependent of whether the Watford team will be able to hold their shape and keep the spurs side from putting the ball in the back of their net. They hornets did this job very well as spurs enjoyed around 70% of the possession and still couldn’t break them down.
But, unfortunately a dodgy goal from Delle Alli helped the north london side from a humiliating defeat
Dele Alli has now been directly involved in over seventy Premier League goals (71). Better than 0.5 per game despite not having reached his peak years.
AllAboutFPL thoughts: We think this Spurs team has run its course and it needs someone new at the top or a total rebuild.
5.LEICESTER CITY BEAT BURNLEY AMIDST VAR CONTROVERSY :
The foxes are really on a roll time around and have really good chance of clinching a European Campaign spot for the next season. We, can confidently say this because of the multiple inconsistent displays that have been put out by the traditional top six teams.
The foxes under their new manager played very well against Sean’s Burnley a tall, defensive and physical side that rely highly on the long ball and defend deep away from home. The game started out as expected with Leicester having most of the possession and their midfield dictating the game. But, things did not go according to plan as the Chris Wood the Burnley talisman opened the scoring with a well timed finish.
Goals from Jamie Vardy and the young Belgian Tielemans proved enough for them to get the three points and continue their impressive start to the season.
Jamie Vardy in the Premier League this season:
• 9 appearances
• 6 goals
• 1 assist
All though Burnley put a valiant show at the king power as the almost equalized. But, the goal was chopped off after a long var decision.
WEEKEND IN NUMBERS:
- David silva has the highest double digit hauls(4) this season, meanwhile pukki, KDB, Mahrez, Mane and Tammy Abraham have three double digit hauls.
- 35% – 11 of Marcus Rashford’s 31 Premier League goals have come against ‘big six’ opponents (35%)
- Callum Hudson-Odoi has assisted in every appearance for Chelsea this season, playing 5 key passes (most in GW9), and creating 2 big chances. Could be a valuable differential signing in the game weeks ahead
- Jack Grealish has more assists this season than some of the big names-Sergio Aguero, Marcus Rashford, James Maddison, Richarlison, Son Heung-min, Sadio Mane, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling 👀
- We were expecting a goal fest at the Vitality Stadium with Norwich and Bournemouth having two of the worst defences in the league. Of course the opposite happened and it finished 0-0 and there was only 1 big chance in the entire game
- Chris wood scored once again, with the burnley striker has now scored four goals in four games, having the highest xG over the last 4 games and owned by 1.4% and costs £6.2M
ALLABOUTFPL DREAM TEAM:
The allaboutfpl dream team consists of players outside the BIG6 with an ownership percentage less than 10% at the time of writing.
TEAM: Jimenez, Wood, Ings, Barnes, Jack Grealish, Tielemans, Bernad, Matt targett, Sidibe, Jack o’çonell,’Roberto
