Overview
Burnley are an old-fashioned team, in the sense that they keep their style very simple. The Clarets play a 4-4-2 formation with two very strong center forwards in Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes who feed off each other.
Unlike most other teams, Burnley get most of their goals through their forwards and get very little output from the midfielders in terms of goals. In fact, the wingers in this system tend to hold the width and put crosses in the box as opposed to other modern day wingers who love to come inside the box and contribute to the goal scoring charts.
Burnley’s defenders are just as old-fashioned as the rest of the team, they put their bodies on the line and are also a massive threat from set-plays. The Lancashire club are a nuisance to play against and the opponent would have to really dig deep to get a positive result against them.
Key Players
Nick Pope
The Burnley shot stopper endured a injury-hit campaign last time around, but he looks to have regained full fitness and has also brought about his A-game right from the off this season. The England international has secured the highest BPS for goalkeepers in FPL (89) this season. He has also made his way back into the England squad.
Pope is definitely a must-own for FPL managers post the international break for two reasons. One, the Clarets have a tremendous run of fixtures and two, Burnley are a side that face a lot of shots on goal without necessarily conceding too many goals.
Ashley Barnes
If you had to pick your stand-out performer for the August prior to the start, you would have probably picked anyone but Barnes. That’s just the type of player he is. His style of play isn’t as attractive as some of the other forwards going around the league. But the truth is he knows how to put the ball in the back of the net.
Despite the fact that Burnley have had a tough run of games to start off the 2019-20 season, Barnes has already registered 4 goals, and that number is only going to increase in the coming weeks.
Stats Corner
- Nick Pope has made 17 saves this season, only Hugo Lloris has made more.
- Erik .Pieters has accumulated two assists this season, which is the joint highest for a defender in the league.
- Ashley Barnes has attempted15 shots on goal thus far, only Bobby Firmino(17) and Marcus Rashford(16) have registered more.
AllAboutFPLVerdict
Burnley have a very good set of fixtures for the next 5 gameweeks, so it is very essential to have their assets in our FPL teams. They are showing the kind of form which got them to Europa league in 2017-18 season. We suggest you to pick at least one if not two Clarets in your teams.
Cheers for reading, if you’re bored because of the international break we got some great quality content about some of the teams including Everton and leicester city as we slowly build up towards the GW5 deadline.
