The 2018/19 season will live long in the memory of Citizens as Manchester City made football history by becoming the first English team to lift all four domestic trophies only to be knocked in the quarter finals of the Champions league courtesy Son Heung-min and VAR! The FOURMIDABLES will be looking to complete the hat trick of Premier leagues this season even without their club legend Vincent Kompany.
Fixtures : Westham(A),Tottenham(H),Bournemouth(A),Brighton(H), Norwich(A)
STYLE OF PLAY FOR Manchester City:
Are Man City playing a new,advanced style of Tiki taka under Pep Guardiola? Or is this the same Guardiola passing and pressing style of play that his teams played at Barcelona and Bayern Munich? Or a combination of both? But the only thing that is certain is Manchester City are one of the best teams in the world playing the most exciting style of football which is pleasing to the eye. They play a 4-3-3 with two inverted full backs in the form of Zinchenko and Walker and a box to box midfielder in Fernandinho. The magical duo of De Bruyne and David Silva complete the midfield. Laporte and Stones are expected to be at the centre of the defense where they start their play by playing out from the back.
Players IN’s and OUT’s FOR Manchester City:
There is nothing to worry about Man City’s signings and departures in terms of FPL. 23-year-old midfielder Rodri joined on a five-year deal from Atletico Madrid and follows Angelino to become second signing of the summer. But both Rodri and Angelino are not assured of game time and are not FPL worthy. Vincent Kompany has left the club to become player manager of Belgian club R.S.C. Anderlecht.
Pre season form of Manchester City :
17 July Man City 4-1 West Ham (Premier League Asia Trophy)
20 July Wolves 0-0 Man City, Wolves win 3-2 on pens
24 July Kitchee 1-6 Man City
27 July Yokohama F. Marinos 1-3 Man City
4 August Man City 1-1 Liverpool, Man City win 5-4 on pens (FA Community Shield)
FPL Fan Favourites from last season :
Sergio Aguero got an incredible 21 goals and 11 assists last season to rack up 201 points last season. He has got a minimum of 20 goals per season for the last five seasons which puts him among all the PL greats and a FPL must own. Raheem Sterling(12.0) finished with 234 points last season only behind Salah(259 points). Sane,Bernado Silva, David Silva,Laporte were also among the big points last season. But it is very important to choose the three correct players from the champion side.
Three MUST OWN’s from Manchester City :
1.RAHEEEM STERLING(12.0) :
Raheem Sterling at 12.0 is expensive but he is defenitely worth the money. He is second in the ICT index(357.1) for midfielders and overall points only behind Salah. His pre season is also brilliant and the odds are heavily in favour of him to get even better this season.
2. John Stones(5.5) :
With captian Kompany parting ways with the club, John Stones is expected with pair up with Laporte and there is only a small chance of rotation in the form of Otamendi. Stones is one million cheaper than Laporte and also avoids the risk of rotation faced by Walker and Zinchenko due to the latest arrivals of Cancelo and Angelino.
3. Kevin De Bruyne (9.5) :
Yes! It’s not Sergio Aguero! Kevin De Bruyne is fit and raring to go this season after spending most of the last season through injury. He contributes to the team from open plays, set pieces and can find the net in a flash! The Belgian play maker is expected to reproduce the magic of 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons(53 direct goal involvements in two seasons).
It’s always difficult to choose a set of three players from the double defending champions. Sergio Aguero’s stats speak for himselves. But it’s quite difficult to accommodate both Sterling and Aguero. Bernado Silva(8.0)should be your go-to player if you want to have Aguero and free up funds in midfield.
Players to avoid :
Benjamin Mendy is as always injured and is expected to be out of action at least for a couple of weeks. Leroy Sane got injured in the Community Shield win vs Liverpool and is also on his way to Bayern Munich. So it would be a no-brainer to avoid him. Riyad Mahrez , the Algeria intentional only returned to training on last Friday after leading his country to victory in the African Cup of Nations final last month and is not expected to start games on a regular basis.
Thanks for reading and hope it will be a hatrick of PL titles!
