Welcome back, managers, to yet another season of FPL! As we approach the kick-off date of 2025/26 FPL season (15th August), the complex process of building our first draft begins, requiring careful consideration of value picks from every major club. With significant pricing changes reflecting last season’s performances and several high-profile transfers, this season presents unique opportunities to gain advantages through underpriced assets from the traditional Big Six clubs.
The pricing structure for 2025/26 has been notably aggressive, with FPL adopting a more stringent approach following exceptional individual performances in 2024/25. Mohamed Salah’s record-breaking 344 points has seen his price soar to £14.5m, while other premium assets have also received substantial increases. This makes identifying underpriced options from elite clubs even more crucial for creating a competitive squad structure. This makes it a second season running where FPL has absolutely nailed the player pricing.
Moreover, the introduction of defensive contribution points adds an entirely new dimension to player evaluation, particularly benefiting defensive midfielders who previously offered limited FPL appeal. Combined with the revolutionary double chips system – allowing managers to use each chip twice throughout the season – the strategic landscape will witness a massive shift.

Underpriced FPL Assets at Each ‘Big Six’ Club | 25/26 Season
Arsenal
Declan Rice (6.5m)

The Arsenal midfielder emerges as a compelling option at £6.5m, representing excellent value for a player of his caliber in Mikel Arteta’s system.
Perhaps most significantly for FPL managers, Rice stands to be among the primary beneficiaries of the new defensive contribution points system. Historical data reveals Rice would have collected an extraordinary 62 defensive contribution points in 2022/23 while at West Ham, earning them in a massive 86.1% of his 36 starts. His 54 points from defensive contributions in 2021/22 was the second-best tally over the last four campaigns.
At Arsenal, Rice’s positioning allows him to contribute both defensively and in possession, making him ideally suited to accumulate the 12 clearances, blocks, interceptions, recoveries, and tackles required for midfielders to earn defensive contribution points. His consistency in reaching this threshold makes him a reliable source of additional points that many managers may overlook when focusing solely on traditional attacking returns.
The £6.5m price point positions Rice perfectly in the mid-range midfielder category, allowing budget flexibility while providing access to Arsenal’s defensive stability. With Arsenal’s solid fixture list early in the season and Rice’s guaranteed starting position, he offers excellent value as both a fifth midfielder option and potential rotation piece.
Rice will also be on some corners and direct free kicks. The new assist rule means that players who take corners are likely to get more assists than before. Rice took the 2nd most Corners(108) and the most in-direct Free Kicks(33) from last season.

Watchlist – Lewis-Skelly (5.5m)
The breakthrough star of Arsenal’s 2024/25 campaign, Myles Lewis-Skelly, has established himself as a regular under Mikel Arteta following his new five-year contract extension. The 18-year-old’s versatility as both a left-back and inverted midfielder makes him an intriguing budget option at £5.5m. The only issue is that he needs to compete with Calafiori for a place in the 11, which is why we suggest having him on the watchlist.
Lewis-Skelly’s defensive statistics from last season were remarkable for a player his age – he was dribbled past only once in the Premier League, the best record of any player to have made at least 15 starts. He also won the most duels (six) per 90 minutes and ranked third for fouls won (3.1) [BBC Sport]. These defensive actions, combined with his attacking license in Arteta’s system, could generate consistent defensive contribution points alongside occasional attacking returns.
Having made 39 appearances across all competitions in his debut senior season, Lewis-Skelly represents exceptional value for a potential starter in Arsenal’s defence. His age and room for development make him a potential price riser if he continues his impressive form.

Chelsea
Enzo Fernandez (6.5m)

Chelsea’s Argentine midfielder has seen his FPL stock rise significantly under Enzo Maresca’s tactical system, making his £6.5m price tag appear increasingly attractive. After a slow start to the 2024/25 season, Enzo found his rhythm from December onwards, racking up an impressive average of eight points per game over a five-gameweek period.
The tactical shift under Maresca has been crucial to Enzo’s FPL appeal. The Italian coach has pushed him further up the pitch, encouraging late runs into the box while utilizing his technical ability to arrive in dangerous positions. This positional change, combined with his role on most free kicks and corners, has transformed him from a deep-lying playmaker into a genuine FPL asset.
His capacity to shoot from anywhere on the pitch really boosted his goal attempts total, while his set-piece involvement inflated his chance creation statistics, both of which are well rewarded on the Bonus Points System.
At £6.5m, Enzo represents excellent value for a player who should be Chelsea’s primary creative outlet alongside Cole Palmer. His ability to contribute both goals and assists from midfield, combined with Chelsea’s excellent opening fixtures, makes him an appealing mid-priced option.
Watchlist – Joao Pedro (7.5m)

Chelsea’s summer signing from Brighton arrives with an impressive Premier League pedigree, having scored 22 goals and registered 10 assists across 89 appearances in England. His £7.5m price tag reflects both his proven output and the premium associated with joining one of the Big Six clubs.
Pedro’s versatility is a significant asset for both Chelsea and FPL managers. Capable of operating as a central striker, across the front three, or as a No.10, he offers Maresca multiple tactical options. His 37 shots in the box and 30 chances created both ranked among the top three Brighton players last season, made even more impressive considering he only started 23 league matches.
Despite possibly losing penalties to Cole Palmer, his all-round contributions suggest he can maintain strong returns even without spot-kicks. Chelsea’s kind opening fixtures – four successive London derbies with no opponent rated higher than 3 in the FDR across their first six matches – provide an ideal platform for Pedro to establish himself (given he starts).

Liverpool
Florian Wirtz (8.5m)

Liverpool’s record-breaking signing arrives at Anfield with exceptional credentials and a surprisingly reasonable £8.5m FPL price tag. Many “experts” expected a higher starting price, indicating Wirtz’s potential this season. His Bundesliga numbers from last season were outstanding: 10 goals and 12 assists in just 25 starts, with an additional 10 goals and 5 assists across 20 European matches.
Wirtz’s rate of attacking returns was better than every Liverpool player except Mohamed Salah, achieving an impressive 107.1 minutes per attacking return compared to Salah’s 71.8. His creativity metrics are equally impressive – producing a key pass every 41 minutes, again second only to Salah’s 38 minutes among Liverpool players.
The 22-year-old’s versatility should help Arne Slot integrate him seamlessly into Liverpool’s system. He can operate on the left of a front three, as a No.10, or perhaps, even as a false nine – roles that maximize his goal and assist potential. Numbers have also shown his clinical finishing over his past seasons.
At £8.5m, Wirtz offers exceptional value for a player joining the Premier League champions. His price point allows for interesting team structures, potentially enabling both Salah and Wirtz in the same squad while maintaining budget flexibility elsewhere.

Manchester City
Tijjani Reijnders (5.5m)

The Dutch midfielder’s move from AC Milan to Manchester City represents potentially excellent value at £5.5m. Reijnders was named Serie A’s Best Midfielder in 2024/25 after netting 15 goals in 54 games, more than doubling his previous best tally. His all-round skillset – combining goals, assists, and defensive work – makes him ideally suited to Pep Guardiola’s system.
Under the new defensive contribution points system, Reijnders should be a consistent beneficiary. His box-to-box style naturally accumulates the tackles, interceptions, and recoveries required to earn the additional two points per match. This defensive output, combined with his proven attacking threat, creates multiple avenues to FPL points.
Reijnders’ tactical flexibility allows Guardiola to deploy him in various roles – as a traditional box-to-box midfielder, in more advanced positions, or even deeper when required. In the club World Cup, Reijnders was seen playing a more attacking role and taking up good positions in attack. His 22 caps for the Netherlands, including all six games at Euro 2024 as they reached the semi-finals, demonstrate his consistency at the highest level.
The £5.5m price point positions Reijnders as an excellent mid-price option. With Kevin De Bruyne’s departure, there should be ample opportunities for Reijnders to establish himself as a key creative force.
Watchlist – Phil Foden (8.0m)

Despite being priced as a semi-premium asset, Foden still represents relative value at £8.0m given his 2024/25 season. The concern for many will be Guardiola’s rotation policy, but Foden’s importance to City suggests he’ll remain a regular starter when fit.
With City’s squad refresh and the absence of several key players from previous seasons, Foden’s role may become even more central to their tactical approach. His ability to operate across multiple positions provides both tactical flexibility for Guardiola and FPL appeal for managers. He is certainly one to be on the lookout for over the pre-season friendlies.

Manchester United
Bryan Mbeumo (8.0m) / Matheus Cunha (8.0m)

United’s double summer swoop for Brentford’s Mbeumo and Wolves’ Cunha represents a significant investment in attacking talent. Both players arrive with excellent FPL pedigree – Mbeumo’s 236 points in 2024/25 made him the second-highest scorer in the game, while Cunha’s 178 points ranked him sixth among forwards.
The tactical setup under Ruben Amorim should suit both players perfectly. His preferred 3-4-2-1 formation places two attacking midfielders behind a striker, roles tailor-made for Mbeumo and Cunha. Their combined creativity and goalscoring threat could transform United’s attacking output significantly.
However, the move to Old Trafford brings both opportunities and concerns. Neither player will be on penalty duty with Bruno Fernandes in the team, potentially reducing their ceiling. Additionally, the step up from Brentford and Wolves to United means sharing creative responsibilities rather than being the focal point of their teams’ attacks.
Mbeumo’s 2024/25 campaign was built on exceptional underlying numbers – his expected assists (xA) led the league, while his penalty-taking inflated his goal tally. At United, he’ll need to rely more heavily on open-play contributions. Cunha, meanwhile, benefits from Wolves not being awarded a single penalty in 2024/25, proving his ability to score from various situations.
Both players are priced at £8.0m, reflecting their proven Premier League quality while acknowledging the unknowns of their new environment. Their success will largely depend on how quickly they adapt to Amorim’s system and whether United can improve upon their disappointing 2024/25 campaign.
Watchlist – Ayden Heaven (4.0m)
United’s winter signing from Arsenal represents one of the most intriguing budget options in the game. The 18-year-old defender has impressed since his move, earning praise from pundits who describe him as playing “like he’s 28” despite his youth. His £4.0m price tag makes him extremely accessible for “budget-conscious” managers.
Heaven’s defensive statistics at Arsenal were impressive for such a young player, and his adaptation to United’s three-at-the-back system under Amorim has been seamless. His left-footed delivery and ability to step into midfield provide additional FPL upside beyond standard defensive returns.

Tottenham
Dominic Solanke (7.5m)

The English striker’s move to Spurs from Bournemouth has generated significant FPL interest, and his £7.5m price tag appears reasonable given his impressive 2023/24 campaign. Solanke’s 19 goals in 38 games for Bournemouth, achieved with a limited supporting cast, suggests he could thrive in Tottenham’s more attacking setup.
These returns, however, couldn’t keep up in the 2024/25 season. He ended the previous year in a slightly underwhelming fashion at 108 points with 9 goals, 5 assists – part of which could be attributed to Spurs’ horrendous form. A bounce back from the whites could unleash a highly valuable asset in Dominic.
The striker’s physical profile suits Thomas Frank’s high-intensity style, while his link-up play should complement Tottenham’s technical midfield options. His proven Premier League goal-scoring record, combined with Spurs’ typically open attacking approach, creates an environment for continued success.
Watchlist – Destiny Udogie (4.5m)
The Italian left-back’s £4.5m price represents excellent value for a player who should be integral to Frank’s system. Despite Tottenham’s defensive fragilities last season, Udogie’s attacking threat from left-back created numerous FPL opportunities. His advanced positioning in pre-season matches suggests he’ll continue operating as a full-back in all but name.
Udogie’s pace and dribbling ability make him a constant threat in the final third, while his crossing can create assists. The £4.5m price point allows managers to access Tottenham’s attack through their defence, potentially offering excellent value if Spurs can improve their clean sheet record. The price tag also allows him to be a good backup as a fourth defender on the bench.
Udogie also rotates well with Forest, Wolves Defender in a 3-way Rotation(Play 2, Bench 1) as seen in the image below. Spurs also rotate well with Burnley, Villa Defenders. If you are looking for some Cheap Rotational Pairs and Combinations, don’t forget to check this out.

Conclusion
These underpriced assets from the Big Six represent excellent opportunities to gain early advantages in FPL 2025/26. The amalgamation of these changes – transfers, new rules (FPL) around defensive contributions, and aggressive pricing elsewhere creates value pockets that managers can exploit.
The key consideration is balancing proven Premier League performers with new signings who may need adaptation time. Players like Rice, Enzo, and Solanke offer immediate reliability, while options like Reijnders, Heaven, and Udogie provide budget-friendly access to elite clubs with significant upside potential. At a time like this, it becomes crucial to examine pre-season friendlies and pick up players based on their form over the next month.
With the double chips system allowing more tactical flexibility throughout the season, having access to these value picks could prove crucial for navigating through the strategic complexity of the FPL 2025/26 season.
Best of luck for the upcoming season!
