  • MD2: Week of 30th September (between GW6-GW7)
  • MD3: Week of 21st October (between GW8-GW9)

Meanwhile EFL cup rounds 2-4 will be in:

2025/26 FPL Fixture Analysis- Macro View:

Lets now look at a macro view of the first 10 GWs. Table 1 gives a break up of the opponents for each team by table position from last year:
– Top half of the table in 24/25
– Bottom half of the table in 24/25
– Promoted sides

  • Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brentford, Chelsea, Everton, Leeds, Sunderland and Wolves have 6/10 fixtures where they play a bottom half side (from last season) or a promoted side.
  • Wolves is the only team that plays all the 3 promoted sides in the first 10 GWs.
  • Meanwhile Arsenal, Aston Villa, Everton, Burnley, Forest, Spurs, West Ham and Man United play 2 promoted sides each in the first 10 GWs.
  • At the other end, Man United, Crystal Palace and Fulham play 7 top half sides (from last season) each in the first 10 GWs.

Now lets look at the fixture tables for each team specifically from an attacking assets and defensive assets view.

Methodology for creating attacking and defensive FDR tables:

  • Attacking: xG/game for team from last season (basis home or away) + xGA/game for opponent from last season (again basis home or away). Higher the value, easier the fixture for the first team for attacking assets.
  • Defensive: Similarly, for defensive assets it has been calculated as xGA/game for team from last season (basis home or away) + xG/game for opponent from last season (again basis home or away). Lower the value, better the fixture from a defensive point of view.
  • For promoted sides, I have taken a multiplying factor for their xG/game and xGA/game values from the Championship. Multiplying factor calculated on the basis of the promoted sides from last season (LEI, IPS and SOU) – their performance in championship vs premier league. Calculation shown below.

Table 2 has the target teams for Attacking Assets (arranged from most preferred to least preferred). Similarly table 3 can be referred for defensive assets.

FPL Fixture Analysis- Teams with good fixtures for attacking assets (Top 5):

1. Liverpool

The Premier League winners from last season are best placed with regards to fixtures from an attacking point of view – 7 green fixtures. Gameweeks 2 and 3 are tricky with NEW (A) and ARS (H) but otherwise they have a very good run of fixtures.

Liverpool also have Wirtz now, an elite creator, who will either be playing as a 10 or a false 9. Salah, Wirtz and Diaz (if he doesn’t leave) should all be popular picks for the initial run. Salah was the top scorer by points across all players last season – with 344 points. Diaz was second highest for Liverpool with 183. Salah or no Salah will depend on his pricing but based on his initial form from last season it will be difficult to go without him.

2. Chelsea

They are the only team with 4/4 green fixtures in the first 4 GWs. In fact they have 5 in the first 6 along with MUN (A). Palmer could be a good pick here. Despite a poor run towards the end, he did finish as the 3rd highest player by points last season with 214 points.

Delap can also be considered – he came on as a substitute in a recent Club World Cup game against Los Angeles FC and assisted Enzo for their second goal. He looked good in the 26 minutes that he was on.

3. Manchester City

Armed with 3 excellent new signings in Cherki, Reijnders and Ait-Nouri, Man City also have a great start to the next season from an attacking point of view. 3/4 green fixtures in the first 4 GWs before they play Arsenal at the Emirates. However Pep Roulette will of course be a factor, better to just go with Haaland – the most nailed attacker (and the most talismanic).

Haaland played 2700+ minutes last season, 2nd highest for Man City after Gvardiol. He finished with 22 goals and 3 assists last season to get 181 points. Interestingly both Haaland and Gvardiol were on the bench in Man City’s first game in the Club World Cup against Wydad AC.

4. Bournemouth

Bournemouth finished 9th last season. While they have a very difficult fixture in GW1, Liverpool at Anfield, fixtures improve over the next 3 – WOL (H), TOT (A) and BHA (H). With regards to transfer window action, they have lost Huijsen already (transferred to Real Madrid) and Kerkez will also be leaving soon (should start against them for Liverpool in GW1).

Semenyo and Kluivert were the top attacking picks for Bournemouth last season, with 165 and 158 points respectively. It will be interesting to see if Bournemouth is able to retain both of them though.

5. Tottenham

Under a new manager in Thomas Frank, Spurs have an easy fixture in GW1 – playing one of the promoted sides at home, Burnley. While they do have City in GW2 at Etihad, fixtures do improve from GW3 with BOU (H), WHU (A), BHA (A) and WOL (H).

There was no clear talisman from last season though. Johnson, Maddison and Son had 137, 133 and 129 points respectively. Solanke had 108. It will be interesting to see how Spurs line up in the club friendlies from 26th July to 7th August and the UEFA Super Cup final against PSG on 13th August. We should then be able to finalize the Spurs attacking asset basis these fixtures.

FPL Fixture Analysis- Teams with Good fixtures for Defensive assets (top 5):

1. Arsenal

Arsenal had the lowest goals conceded (34) last season, lowest xGA as well at 34.4. They kept 13 clean sheets last season. While they do play Liverpool and Manchester City in the first 5, overall they have a very favorable run of fixtures from a defensive point of view over the first 10.

As mentioned earlier, they do play 2 promoted sides and 4 bottom half of the table sides. Raya and Saliba were the 2nd and 3rd highest scoring assets for Arsenal last season with 142 and 130 points respectively. Interestingly Trossard was first at 152.

2. Liverpool

Liverpool had 14 clean sheets last season – highest across all clubs. They had the second lowest GA (41) and xGA (38.6). While they have lost Spanish-speaking Trent Alexander Arnold to Real Madrid, they have already signed an excellent replacement in Frimpong and are going to sign another attacking LB in Kerkez.

Kerkez had 2 goals and 4 assists last season for his 134 points (3rd highest scoring asset for Bournemouth). Frimpong meanwhile had 5 goals and 5 assists for Leverkusen last season. Van Dijk had 143 points last season – 4th highest defender by points overall after Gvardiol, Trent and Milenkovic.

3. Everton

Everton also have a good run from a defensive view in the first 10 GWs. They have 3 green fixtures in the first 4. Interestingly, Everton did have the 4th lowest xGA (46.2) and the 4th lowest goals conceded (44) last season. They kept 12 clean sheets. Pickford was the highest scoring defensive asset (defenders and goalkeepers) with 158 points.

4. Leeds United

Leeds United had the lowest xGA (29.6) and the second lowest goals conceded (30 goals) in the Championship last season. They kept 25 clean sheets in the 46 games that they played (CS% of 54%) I have taken a multiplying factor while taking the xGA/game for Leeds United and they have still fared decent with regards to the PL teams.

5. Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest had the 6th lowest goals conceded (46) last season. They also kept 13 clean sheets. Forest have 5 green fixtures in the first 10. Sels and Milenković were the top scoring defensive assets for Forest with 150 and 145 points respectively.

Forest and Arsenal also rotate really well with regards to defensive assets – Raya / Sels combo could be popular to start the season. With Raya/Sels or a defender rotation you will have:

  • GW1: NFO vs BRE (H)
  • GW2: ARS vs LEE (H)
  • GW3: NFO vs WHU (H)
  • GW4: ARS vs NFO (H)
  • GW5: NFO vs BUR (A)
  • GW6: NFO vs SUN (H)
  • GW7: ARS vs WHU (H)
  • GW8: ARS vs FUL (A)
  • GW9: ARS vs CRY (H)
  • GW10: ARS vs BUR (A)
