Welcome to our FPL GW32 Scout Picks blog! The countdown is on – only 7 Gameweeks left, and this one is a special one; another DOUBLE GAMEWEEK, with both Newcastle and Crystal Palace doubling. Palace are the special case though, as they double not only in GW32, but also in GW33 – so triple up if you can!

Our Scout Picks team secured a decent 55 points in FPL GW31, matching that of the Official Scout picks team for the first time this season! The scores on the doors are 17.5 – 12.5 to us. Let’s do one better and beat their tally in FPL GW32! As always, our Scout Picks will be based on the eye test, stats, and analysis. Let’s first take a look at the fixtures for FPL GW31!

FPL GW32 Scout Picks
FPL GW32 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

Our GK pick last week scored a grand total of 0 points (Alisson failed the concussion protocol), so anything more than zero would be an improvement this week! Martinez (5.0m) faces Southampton away this weekend, offering him the perfect opportunity to make up for his ‘error’ against PSG in mid-week. The Argentinian ‘keeper was beaten at his near post for PSG’s second goal (though in my opinion it was more of an excellent finish than a mistake from Martinez), and Emery will be looking to secure a big win to give them some momentum going into the second leg – with progression to the semis still very much a possibility for the Villains!

Southampton are the worst side in the league by some distance (though Leicester are making a good case) and their fate was confirmed in GW31, with their loss against Spurs meaning that they will be playing Championship football next season. They played alright in that game, creating 1.04xG and 3 big chances, but ultimately even an out of sorts Spurs side (who could themselves finish only a couple of places above the relegation zone) was too much for the Saints.
Why Martinez? You may ask… Why not a Villa defender with the potential of attacking returns? Well, due to the two big games either side of this fixture, and the size of the Villa squad, we thought it too much of a risk to try and predict Emery’s XI for this match and instead go for the most nailed defensive option. If you’re willing to take a risk, then a punt on Maatsen could be worth a shot…

FPL GW32 Scout Picks – Defenders

Two defenders, Munoz (5.2m) and Livramento (4.6m), retain their place in their team, while Estupinan (4.9m) makes his debut for the AAFPL Scout Picks team in FPL GW32.
As a wise man once said Munoz’s “attacking numbers speak for themselves, 0.19xG/90 and 0.16xA/90 illustrates that he is one of the most potent full-backs in the league – and a very valuable FPL asset!” (Me in last week’s Scout Picks article). Munoz scored a great goal against arch-rivals Brighton in what turned out to be a very entertaining game in spite of my pessimism. That goal makes it 9 attacking returns for the season for the Columbian fullback and makes him the 4th highest scoring defender in the game!

This week, the Eagles have a DGW against tough opposition – Manchester City and Newcastle. City illustrated in their drab 0-0 draw with cross-city rivals United that they are not the force to be reckoned with that they once were, creating just 0.49xG and 1 big chance in that game. That’s now just 1 win in their last 4 games (that being a win against Leicester), and 2 in their last 6. Forget their recent success, they are not a ‘team to be feared’. Newcastle on the other hand are in a rich vein of form, so we are less confident of a clean sheet in that fixture, especially considering it’s away from home, but as mentioned Munoz also offers the potential of attacking returns…
Our second DGW player of the team is Newcastle’s Livramento, who secured a huge 11 points in FPL GW31 in the Magpies’ 0-3 win over Leicester on Monday night. Similarly to last week, we’re picking Livramento mainly for his fixture and his personal form. As mentioned, Newcastle have DGW in FPL GW32, facing Palace and Manchester United – double the games = double the points right?

Livramento has actually seen an uptick in his underlying numbers in recent weeks, perhaps due to his positional shift in order to make up for the injured Hall. 0.57xA in FPL GW31 and 0.38xA in FPL GW30 shows a positive trend not only in his expected data, but also underlines the excellence of his recent performances. The Magpies stand a decent chance at a clean sheet against United (who are still struggling to create and score goals), and while Palace are a decent team, Howe’s side have shown in recent weeks that they are more than capable of efficiently dismantling elite sides – one need only look at the Carabao cup final for proof…
Completing our defense is Brighton’s Estupinan. Leicester have failed to score a goal in a record 8 consecutive Premier League defeats – in their most recent match against Newcastle in FPL GW32 they created just 0.35xG and registered 7 shots. They are in a very bad run of form and have shown no signs of being capable of escaping this rut!

Fixture is one of the main reasons for the Estupinan pick, but their are other key advantages to going for the Brighton left back… His 0.14xGI/90 is not bad by any means, and actually makes him the most attacking defender in the Brighton squad! What this tells us is that none of Brighton’s defenders are particularly potent, and we shouldn’t necessarily be expected attacking returns from any of them – thus going for a player who is nailed and has fine underlying numbers is the best bet! Estupinan is a great pick for FPL GW32!

FPL GW32 Scout Picks – Midfielders

Salah (13.8m), Eze (6.8m), Asensio (6.2m) and Murphy (5.1m) make up our midfield quartet for FPL GW32 as we look to take advantage of DGWs and fixtures against promoted sides…
Salah retains his place in the team by a thread. He was poor again against Fulham, and has been crying out for chance creation to supply him for weeks. Someone pointed out on social media that his drop in output has coincided with the injury to Trent, as the scouser’s absence means that defenders can double up on Salah without any worries and nullify almost all of Liverpool’s creativity in one fell swoop. The reintroduction of Bradley to the starting XI should help the Egyptian king, and a fixture against a wallowing West Ham (at home) is the perfect opportunity for him to reignite his form.

The only other returning player is Murphy, who cooked in FPL GW32! “AAFPL Scout Picks hall of famer, OG, legend: Jacob Murphy“, as I described him last week, scored 2 goals and took home all 3 bonus points in FPL GW32, making it 21 points over the course of the last 2 FPL GWs. He’s been picking up the slack left due to Isak’s dip in form, and has officially taken the crown from Rogers as the QEBE (quasi-essential-budget-enabler). He is a must have this week, and is the obvious midfield candidate for those tripling up on Newcastle assets.
Another player who has a DGW in FPL GW32 is Palace’s Eze! We’ve unsuccessfully flip-flopped between Eze and Sarr in recent weeks, almost always getting the selection wrong – so as we’re suggesting Eze, it’s probably a sign that Sarr will haul!

While Sarr’s expected goal involvement is far superior to Eze’s in recent weeks, the englishman is far more potent than his teammate when it comes to assists and goals. Eze has the ability to create something out of nothing, be it a dribble, a magic pass or an exquisite long shot, he possesses incredible skill and creativity that Sarr just does not offer. Underlying numbers are important, but they do not tell the story. Eze has really started to pick up form in recent weeks, so we’re backing him in FPL GW32 for his DGW against City and Newcastle!
Finally we have Aston Villa’s Asensio. Somewhat of a differential pick, Asensio has started just 1 of Villa’s last 3 Premier League games, after joining the midlands club in January. We felt it necessary to include at least one Villa attacker for their mouth-watering fixture against already-relegated Southampton in FPL GW32, and, due to the rotation of Rashford, Watkins, Rogers and others, we wanted to take a punt on Asensio!

In his very limited minutes for Emery’s side so far, he has managed to produce 3 goals and 1 assist across 300 minutes, averaging 0.69xG and 0.10xA per 90. Asensio is a household name, and has won a silly amount of trophies across his career so far – he is an excellent player who, similarly to Eze has insane technical ability and the capability to create something out of nothing. He came on at 59′ minutes against PSG, making it fairly likely (in our opinion) that he starts against the Saints this weekend. Malen and Ramsey are also decent options (as they similarly were rested), but we think Asensio is the best Villa pick this weekend!

FPL GW32 Scout Picks – Forwards

Despite his blank in FPL GW31, Isak retains his place in the team, with Mateta and Welbeck joining him in our front three for FPL GW32!
As mentioned, Isak blanked in FPL GW31, breaking many FPL managers hearts, but we’re backing him again this week, leaving the armband on the Newcastle striker and putting our faith in him once again. He had a fairly quiet game against Leicester, taking just 3 shots (amounting to 0.16xG) and creating 0 chances for his teammates – but with a DGW coming up, and many managers considering playing their Triple Captain chip on him, he remains the captain for FPL GW32!

Mateta completes the Palace triple up, joining Eze and Munoz in our AAFPL scout picks team for GW32. He broke his two game goal drought against Brighton last weekend, scoring early to give the Eagles a lead over their arch-rivals. His 0.53xG/90 is fairly good for an FPL forward, and he’s pretty much performing as expected so far this campaign, scoring 13 goals from 13.41xG!
As much as the teams Mateta will be facing is important, the fact that it’s a DGW sweetens the deal, and makes him a must-have this weekend. Palace’s first opponent, Man City, have conceded over 1xG in 3 of their last 5 matches, with their only sub-1xGA performances coming against Leicester and Forest, highlighting their defensive issues. Newcastle on the other hand had only managed 2 clean sheets in their previous 8 Premier League matches prior to their victory over Leicester. Palace drew against both those sides earlier this season, with Mateta blanking in both games, he and the team will be hoping to do one better this time around!

Finally we have Danny Welbeck. I have repeatedly said that, when fit – Welbeck is the best Brighton asset in FPL. His numbers are exceptional. 0.46xG/90 and 0.09xA/90 paints a fairly mediocre picture, but when one looks deeper, his quality is evident…
In his last 2 starts for Brighton, he has produced around 0.8xGI in both matches, with his numbers skewed by sub performances when Brighton are already losing or at least struggling. When he starts, his underlying numbers and real term output are exceptional, and he makes the team far better when’s on the pitch. With a tasty fixture against the 2nd worst team in the league coming up in FPL GW32, Welbeck was one of the first players I suggested for this weeks team – let’s just hope he isn’t rotated!
