FPL GW28 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered
Best FPL GW28 Forward Options

Forward options in FPL were very recently hard to choose between and left us all wishing that we could have more than three forwards in our lineup. All of a sudden we are now considering if there are more than two valuable forwards worth owning for the coming weeks.
Mateta was kicked in the face by the Millwall goalkeeper midweek which should see him spend some period of time on the sidelines. As always, wait until press conferences later in the week before making any transfers and final decisions.
Cunha lost his head against Bournemouth in their cup fixture which saw him kick, punch and abuse Bournemouth players as well as yelling at referees. As it is his second straight red card for the season, he will spend at least four matches on the sidelines.
Isak faced an injury issue before appearing in their cup fixture where he scored a penalty. He was substituted but the manager has attributed this to just tiredness. He has until Monday to recover for their next fixture so he looks to be a hold.
Gakpo is currently dealing with a minor annoyance that saw him miss out on the team’s Champions League fixture after travelling with the team. Manager Arne Slot will hope to have him available for their fixture against Southampton to help rotate the team before their important second-leg Champions League fixture. Gakpo is a doubt for the weekend but Mateta & Cunha are higher priority transfers.
In terms of replacements, Haaland has been on the scoresheet more often lately but the value for money still isn’t there and they face Nottingham Forest in a tough away fixture this week.
Wissa has been posting solid goal + assist numbers as well as underlying data all season but their next seven fixtures are a tough run.
Joao Pedro has returned the previous two weeks after a form slump but also has tough fixtures on the horizon.
Depending on your chip strategy, Isak, Wood, Watkins and either Wissa or Joao Pedro would be your best bets. Having two forward options and running five strong midfielders would also be a good choice.

My Current Chip Strategy

Below I will detail my chip strategy and reasoning for the decisions.
Due to my transfers and strategy during the middle period of the season, I have many players in my team that will blank in Blank Gameweek 29. Therefore I am opting to use my Free Hit chip in Gameweek 29. This allows me to hold on to high-performing Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Aston Villa & Liverpool assets who all have good fixtures in GW28 and GW30-32 which will also see a double gameweek for Crystal Palace & Newcastle.
The remainder of the chip strategy will be partly based on the outcome of FA Cup & League Cup ties as these will determine which teams will blank and also have double gameweeks in the future. Using my wildcard and bench boost in combination between GW32 – GW36 is the current plan but a final decision will be made in due course.
Saving up to five free transfers or as many as possible between now and this busy period will be critical. Being able to react to injuries and in form players will help to finish the season on a high note.
Keep an eye on this section of my tips each week as my chip strategy progresses with new information.

Brentford Assets Future Plans

Brentford assets, particularly Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have provided great value across the majority of the season for those who have owned them.
15 Goals and 5 Assists for Mbeumo while Wissa has notched 12 Goals and 3 Assists in a Brentford team that has been full of goals this season.
However, their upcoming fixture run of Aston Villa (H), Bournemouth (A), Newcastle (A), Chelsea (H), Arsenal (A), Brighton (H), Nottingham Forest (A) is one of the hardest in the league from an attacking perspective and is slightly more weighted to away games where the team as a whole performs more poorly than at home.
Brentford have one of the worst home v away goal disparities in the league. They are the leading scorers of home goals this season with 30 in 14 fixtures but are 8th worst (only beating the lowest teams on the table) for away goals scored with 18 in 13 fixtures. Their recent away form has been better but the majority of their goals came against league whipping boys Leicester & Southampton.
Mbeumo & Wissa are still solid value for money and could potentially surprise or enjoy some good chances in their upcoming tough fixtures, but they are likely to be limited in their ceiling potential compared to some other assets.

FPL GW28 Key Fixture Analysis

Liverpool v Southampton. This a key fixture for GW28 as there is more to the fixture than what you might think at face value.
Liverpool hosting Southampton (who are one of the worst premier league sides in recent years) at Anfield is definitely one of the most favourable fixtures of the season. But you have to take into account Liverpool’s mid-week Champions League knockout round fixtures against PSG on either side of this fixture. How will this affect the team lineup?
Realistically, the fullbacks (TAA & Robertson) as well as the forwards (Salah, Diaz, Jota, Gakpo, Darwin, Szoboszlai) are most at risk here. TAA has had his previous injury issues but he has the advantage of Conor Bradley being out injured. Joe Gomez is also out injured so it could simply be an early substitution for TAA.
The forwards are more likely to be rotated as they are all currently fit. The consensus is that Salah will likely start all fixtures but there is definitely an outside chance that he is benched. Take this into account for any Triple Captain usage.
Liverpool should beat Southampton handily regardless of their startling lineup. 3-0, 3-1 or 4-0.

Chelsea v Leicester. Chelsea created 6 big chances in their 4-0 romp at home hosting Southampton. 2.6 xG shows that Chelsea took their chances and Southampton struggled to defend. Frustratingly for Palmer owners and captainers, he amassed 1.3 xG and created one chance but failed to register an attacking return, missing two big chances.

Chelsea hosting Leicester this weekend should follow a similar pattern in regards to the scoreline. Leicester have conceded 2+ goals nearly every fixture since Ruud Van Nistelrooy took over as manager and they are now destined to be relegated. Their underling xG and xGC data support their extremely poor form narrative.
Palmer is currently out of form. He hasn’t scored from his last 26 shots (2.5+ xG) and hasn’t recorded an assist from his last 28 key passes either. Part of this is down to luck and natural variation but part of this is due to Palmer and Chelsea having a dip in form and confidence.
The underlying data is there and Palmer combined with Chelsea will return stronger performances and points in the near future.
