Welcome to the FPL Gameweek 25 Captain Picks & Metrics blog. This week, the focus on captaincy is on two teams that are doubling – Aston Villa & Liverpool. Let’s see who tops the captaincy metrics for FPL DGW25.

FPL GW25 Captaincy Metrics
FPL GW25 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd
The captaincy poll this week is a one-man show with Mo Salah getting 86% of the votes, Salah has already hit 251 points for the season from just 24 games with 22 goals and 14 assists. The rest of the top five is completed by Gakpo, Watkins, Rashford and Rogers.

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 25 Captain picks
Salah comes out on top for underlying numbers with an xG of 3.04 and 17 Shots inside the Box from the last 6 games. He also has 4 big chances and created 18 chances in the PL over the last six games.
Watkins is 2nd in the table with 2.74 xG in the last six games, he’s had seven big chances in the last six games, three more than Salah during the period, and has had 13 shots inside the box.
Gakpo is 3rd in the table with an xG of 2.19, he’s had four big chances, created 11 chances and 8 shots inside the box.
Rashford is 4th with an xG of 1.04, his numbers are from his appearances earlier in the season at Man United as he’s not yet made his PL debut for Villa.
Rogers is 5th with an xG of only 0.22 in the last six games and has had only 3 shots inside the box in the last six games.

Underlying Numbers of the Candidate’s Teams
Liverpool top the Team Underlying Data with 13.37 xG over the last 6 matches which is the highest amongst all teams by a huge margin. The Reds have also had 83 shots inside the box and 21 big chances during the period.
Aston Villa have had only 6.89 xG in the last six games with 13 big chances and only 44 shots inside the box.

Fixture Difficulty of the candidate team in FPL GW25
In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates.
We will use DraftHound’s odds for a Team scoring at least one goal in the Gameweek and the Odds of Scoring more than 2.0 goals in the Gameweek as a whole.
Double gameweek means the odds are high for the teams
Liverpool have a whopping 98.47% odds of at least 1 goal in DGW25 and 73.2% odds of scoring 2+ goals. Aston Villa have a 93% odds of at least 1 goal and 50.7% odds of scoring 2+ goals in DGW25.

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 25 Captain Picks
In the Fourth Phase of the article, I have used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points Tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week.
Salah is top for projections this week with 90% anytime returns & a 15.8 points projection in FPL GW25 vs Wolves(H), Aston Villa(A)
Watkins & Gakpo are joint 2nd for projection this week with Watkins having an 82% anytime returns odds & an 8.8 points projection in DGW25 and Gakpo having a 75% anytime returns and a 9.7 points projection. Watkins projected points is only 8.8 despite his high anytime returns odds due to his low xMins(124 mins) due to his injury concern. There should be an update from Emery in the press conference ahead of the deadline.
Rogers is 4th and has a 61% anytime returns & a 8.4 points projection in FPL DGW25 against Ispwich(H) & Liverpool(H)
Rashford is last with a 58% anytime return & only a 3.6 points projection, his predicted points is low because of his low xMins.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 25 Captaincy metrics
In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). According to our captaincy metrics, the candidate with the lowest cumulative rank factor is the ideal captaincy option.
Salah tops the captaincy metrics with a CRF of 4 which is the least possible CRF in our metrics, Gakpo is 2nd with a CRF of 7. Watkins is 3rd with a CRF of 10, Rogers & Rashford are 4th & 5th in the metrics with a CRF of 14 and 16 respectively.
