Upcoming FPL Double/Blank Gameweeks | 24/25 FPL Season

Double Gameweeks(DGWs) in FPL happen when a team plays twice in a Gameweek. Likewise, Blank Gameweeks in FPL happen when a team doesn’t play in a gameweek. In this article, let’s take a look at the “Upcoming Confirmed and Likely FPL Double Gameweeks” in the 2024/25 FPL season which should help you plan your transfers.

Upcoming FPL Double & Blank Gameweeks

Double Gameweek 25:

Double gameweek 25 has been confirmed and two teams will double – Liverpool & Aston Villa

DGW25 Fixtures:

• Liverpool vs Wolves (H), Villa(A)
• Aston Villa vs Ipswich(H), Liverpool(H)

Blank Gameweek 29:

• Two teams are Confirmed to BLANK in GW29- Liverpool and Aston Villa
• Two more Teams are likely to BLANK in GW29- Newcastle and Crystal Palace 4. Newcastle and Palace are likely to BLANK in GW29 and Double in GW33. There are slim chances that the fixture stays in GW29 itself provided both Newcastle and Palace don’t reach the FA Cup Quarterfinals
• Newcastle have already reached the FA Cup 5th round with Palace facing Doncaster Rovers in their 4th round fixture.

Next FA Cup Rounds:

• The FA Cup fifth round(Rof16) will happen between GW27 and GW28
• The FA Cup Quarter Finals will happen between GW29 and GW30

Why is there no big blank gameweek this season?

This season the PL will not clash with the FA Cup Quarterfinals which means the traditionally big blank gameweek will not happen(Last time when the FA Cup QFs clashed with the PL fixtures only 4 PL fixtures happened resulting in the worst gameweek in FPL history)

Double Gameweek 33

GW33 will be a double and it will most likely include the Newcastle vs Crystal Palace game from GW29(Provided it doesn’t stay in GW29 – If Palace & Newcastle don’t reach the QFs, slim chance)

Due to the FA Cup final clashing with GW37 & the Europa League final being in the midweek between GW37-38, a few blanks from GW34(Due to the FA Cup semi-finals clashing with GW34) could be brought forward into GW33 so that the midweek between GW36 & GW37 is free to tackle any fixture clash before the end of the season.

Blank Gameweek 34

Premier League fixtures will still clash with the FA Cup semi-finals in GW34. The exact number of teams blanking will depend on the FA Cup results.

If a club & their GW34 are both knocked out of the FA Cup then both the teams will not blank in GW34. Ex, if Newcastle & Ipswich both fail to reach the FA Cup semi-finals then they’ll not blank in GW34.

We’ll have clarity on BGW34 in the coming weeks when the next rounds of the FA Cup are completed.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, and Everton are out of the FA Cup which means that:

• Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Everton will not BLANK in GW34
• Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Everton will not DOUBLE in GW33

Confirmed fixtures for GW34(As it stands):

• Chelsea vs Everton
• Liverpool vs Spurs

Teams out of the FA Cup so far: Everton, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, West Ham, Arsenal, Southampton, Brentford and Leicester City

This does not entirely rule out Chelsea from doubling this season, since their GW37 opponent is Man United, if the Red Devils reach the FA Cup finals and the Europa League finals or even just the FA Cup finals their fixture will go into GW36 making it a double. Chances are extremely low based on how inconsistent Man United are this season.

We will know about FPL DGW33 after the GW29 deadline and very likely before the GW31 deadline.

Double Gameweek 36

The last double gameweek of the season will be in GW36 with the teams blanking in GW34 and doubling in GW36(Provided that the GW34 blank is not preponed into DGW33) additionally if a team reaches the FA Cup final and also makes it to the Europa League finals then their fixture will also move into GW36 as it cannot remain in GW37 by moving to the midweek between GW37-38.

Only two teams are competing in both the FA Cup and Europa League – Man United & Spurs, both teams are not having a great season so the chance of them making it to both the finals is less likely but you may never know!

Summary of upcoming FPL Double/Blank Gameweeks:

• DGW25: Double gameweek confirmed for Liverpool & Aston Villa
• BGW29: Blank gameweek for Liverpool & Villa. Likely blank for Newcastle & Palace
• DGW33: Double gameweek that will likely have a fixture from GW29 & fixture/s(1 or more) from GW34 blanks
• BGW34: This gameweek clashes with the FA Cup Semi-finals & the teams reaching the SFs will blank in GW34
• DGW36: Teams blanking in GW34 will then double in GW36(Provided the fixture is not preponed into GW33), if Man United reach both the FA Cup finals and the Europa League finals then their corresponding fixture will also move into GW36. Even if a team reaches just the FA Cup final it might result in the GW37 fixture moving into GW36.
