FPL Chip Strategy – When to use your FPL Chips?

Wildcard

FPL Chip Strategy ~ When to use Wildcard

Wildcard GW32:

This strategy is a good one if you have not used the Wildcard in GW30/GW31 and still have the Free Hit chip left. You can Wildcard in GW32, Target GW32 Doublers(Palace, Newcastle) and GW33 Doublers(Palace, City, Arsenal and Villa) and use Bench Boost in GW33. You can use the Free Hit to navigate GW34 blank.

Pros of GW32 Wildcard:

  • You can attack Triple Newcastle- Isak, Murphy, Burn/Livramento/Pope for the Double in GW32 and they also don’t BLANK in GW34 and have a good fixture vs IPS(H).
  • You could also Double/Triple up on City- Marmoush, Gvardiol, Savinho/2nd defender for the good fixtures from GW32-GW33 including the confirmed Double in GW33.
  • Crystal Palace are the only team to Double in both GW32 and GW33.
  • Palace, City, Villa and Arsenal are confirmed to Double in GW33. If you don’t have many assets from these teams you can Wildcard in GW32 and load up on them heavily to target DGW33 Bench Boost with 12 DGW players+ Salah(vs LEI).
  • If you still have Free Hit chip left, Wildcard 31 with Bench Boost GW33 and Free Hit GW34 is a solid Chip Strategy. FH34 will help you navigate the Blank Gameweek 34.
  • You can clear up up your team if your team has lot of injured players.

Cons of GW32 Wildcard:

  • Can’t use Triple Captain/Assistant Manager in GW32
  • If you don’t have Free Hit left and planning to bench boost in GW33- It is difficult to navigate the upcoming doubles and blanks after GW33.

Wildcard 34:

  • This is a good strategy if you used Free Hit GW29. Wildcarding in GW34 also you to set up for the GW34 Blank Gameweek with an eye on the upcoming Double Gameweek 36 as well. For this to work out you will be plan properly and navigate the Double Gameweek 32 and Double Gameweek 33 just with Free Transfers.

Wildcard 35:

Wildcarding in GW35 helps you to plan and use the Bench Boost in GW36 with 12 Double Gameweek players(Likely).

Pros of GW35 Wildcard:

  • You can bring in players from teams who have everything to play for – Teams involved in the title race, European places, and Relegation fight. Can avoid “Beach Team players”- Who have nothing to play for in the final 4 GWs.
  • You can bring in Differential players with high upside like Marmoush and Foden who are likely to be less owned and have the potential to go big if City have something to play for.

Manchester City Fixtures from GW35-GW38:

  • GW35- Wolves(H)
  • GW36- Southampton(A), Bournemouth(H)* [Not confirmed, Projected Double that can happen if City reach the FA Cup finals]
  • GW37- Blank*
  • GW38- Fulham(A)

Cons of GW35 Wildcard:

  • The Wildcarded team is available only for 3 weeks thereby not maximizing one of the most powerful chips in the game.

Bench Boost

FPL Chip Strategy ~ When to use Bench Boost

GW32 Bench Boost:

GW32 is a small Double with only two team Doubling Newcastle and Palace Doubling. But if your team set up in a way that you have the Triple up from Newcastle and Palace and players with good single Gameweek fixtures, this might be a good shout.

If you are on GW32 Bench Boost and no Free hit left, you can get players from Newcastle(DGW), Brighton(vs LEI), Forest(vs EVE), Liverpool(vs WHU) in GW32. They all have a fixture in GW34 Blank Gameweek as well.

If you have Free Hit chip left, the strategy would be to get more Palace, Arsenal and Villa assets in GW32 as they also double in GW33. You can use Free Hit to navigate GW34.

GW33 Bench Boost:

This strategy can work out well in you are on WC31/WC32. With Palace already doubling in GW32 and GW33, it opens up the option to Triple up on Palace. Arsenal, Man City, Palace, Villa are all Doubling in GW33. This means that you can get to 12 DGW players+ Salah+ Isak+ Areola(Single GW cheap GK vs SOU in GW33)

GW36 Bench Boost:

This becomes a good strategy as GW36 Projected Double is as big as GW33 Double Gameweek(4 Teams Doubling).

Single Gameweek Bench Boost:

If your team structure allows you to Bench Boost in a Single Gameweek, it is definitely not a bad option to bench boost in a single gameweek this season with 15 good players. Once you are done with the chip, you can focus on 12-13 players and not worry about the bench at all.

Free Hit

FPL Chip Strategy ~ When to use Free Hit

GW34 Free Hit:

Confirmed fixtures for GW34:

  • Liverpool vs Spurs
  • Brighton vs West Ham
  • Southampton vs Fulham
  • Bournemouth vs Manchester United
  • Chelsea vs Everton
  • Wolves vs Leicester City
  • Newcastle vs Ipswich
  • Forest vs Brentford

It is totally team-dependent. We know the above 16 teams are confirmed to have a fixture in GW34. So if your team is well set up for GW34, you can avoid using Free Hit in GW34.

  • It is slightly difficult to prepare for GW34 blank with Free Transfers as you would need Free Transfers to set up for the GW33 and GW36 Doubles/Bench Boost. Alternatively, a GW31 Wildcard coupled with GW34 Free Hit can work out well to navigate this.

FPL GW34 Free Hit Draft:

This is a draft just to give you an idea of Players to consider in GW34 Free Hit.

GW33 Free Hit:

If you are able to navigate GW34 blank just with Free Transfers, Free Hit in GW33 is a good option to attack the Double Gameweek.

Potential GW33 Free Hit Draft:

GW36 Free Hit:

GW36 Free Hit is one of the latest options to open up considering that it is likely to be as big as Double Gameweek 33- 4 Teams Doubling. These could be a great Differential option to consider if Forest beat Manchester City and Villa beat Palace in the FA Cup semis, then Forest, West Ham, Villa, Spurs are likely to Double in GW36. You are not likely to have many assets from these teams in your Wildcard team. So you can Free Hit to get Triple Forest, Triple West Ham, Triple Villa and a few Spurs assets for the Double.

GW37 Free Hit:

GW37 Free Hit option is ON if you are heavy on City, Bournemouth, Palace assets in your Wildcard team and they all blank in GW37 due to FA Cup finals.

Triple Captain

FPL Chip Strategy ~ When to use triple captain
GameweekPlayer & OppositionNotes
GW32Isak vs Man United(H), Palace(H)Confirmed Double Gameweek
GW33Marmoush vs Everton(A), Villa(H)Confirmed Double Gameweek
GW36Haaland/Marmoush vs Southampton(A), Bournemouth(H)Not confirmed but can happen if City reach FA Cup finals
GW33Arsenal player vs Ipswich(A), Palace(A)Confirmed Double Gameweek
GW36Chris Wood/Elanga vs Leicester(H), West Ham(A)Not confirmed but can happen if Forest beat Man City and reach FA Cup finals
GW36Mateta vs vs Spurs(A), Wolves(H)Not confirmed but can happen if
Palace beat Villa and reach FA Cup finals

Assistant Manager

The Assistant Manager is the new chip that is introduced by FPL this season. It allows you to pick a manager for your team(Prices in the range of 0.5-1.5). You get points based on the results of the teams during that 3-gameweek period. There are points for a win, a draw, goals scored, and a clean sheet. There are also Table Bonus points which allows you to get bonus points if you pick a manager up against a team that is placed 5 places or above in the table. Everything you need to know about the Assistant Manager Chip with the Rules, Scoring, and FAQs is covered in detail in the below blog.

Note: It is difficult to predict when to use the Assistant Manager right now as the Premier League table keeps fluctuating based on results every week. We have listed the best possible windows and the options as well.

Tip: We think that Assistant Manager is one of the most powerful chips in the game right now and it will be a good idea to use Free Transfers within the 3 Gameweek period to get the perfect pick for that Gameweek.

Best Windows to play Assistant Manager Chip:

GW31-GW33

If you still have Assistant Manager Chip, Using it in GW31-GW33 is a great option as this is likely to be the only period where you have two back-to-back Double Gameweeks.

  • GW31: Howe vs Leicester(A)
  • GW32: Howe vs Man United(H), Palace(H) or Glasner vs MCI(A), NEW(A) if chasing Table Bonus
  • GW33: Glasner vs BOU(H), ARS(A) (Confirmed DGW and Arsenal game will be Table Bonus)
  • Although going Glasner in GW32 and GW33 for chasing Table Bonus it is risky, Palace are in form and have delivered in away games this season.
  • Arteta vs IPS(A), CRY(H) or Pep vs EVE(A), AVL(H) are other options in GW33 if you want to play it safe.
  • Potter vs BOU(H) in GW31 is also a Table Bonus option to consider.

GW35-GW37

  • GW35: Pep vs WOL(H)
  • GW36: Pep vs SOU(A), BOU(H)* (Projected DGW, not confirmed)
  • GW37: Hurzeler vs LIV(H) or Potter vs NFO(H)- Chase Table Bonus If Liverpool and Forest have nothing to play for in the final few weeks.

This is a good option if Manchester City are in the top 4 race and knocked out of other cup competitions. However, if you are chasing points in your mini-leagues and targeting table bonus, you can go for Ange in GW36 with a Projected Double vs CRY(H), AVL(A) with both games having Table Bonus potential.

GW36-GW38

  • GW36- Pep vs SOU(A), BOU(H)* (Projected DGW, not confirmed)
  • GW37- Amorim vs CHE(A) or Potter vs NFO(A) – To chase Table Bonus
  • GW38- Amorim vs AVL(H) or a Team who are fighting to save against relegation on the final day vs a Team who don’t have anything to play for like Wolves vs BRE(H) or Ipswich vs WHU(H).

After the GW31- GW33 window, We think that GW36-GW38 or GW35-GW37could be the next best window to use the Assistant Manager chip because, towards the end of the season, there will be teams who have everything to play for – Title Race, European places, and Relegation Battle. At the same time, there will be teams who have nothing to play for. Teams in 16th, 17th, and 18th playing against teams 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th(Beach teams) could work in favor of Table Bonus Points.

2024/25 FPL Chip Strategy

Have all Chips Left

FPL Chip Strategy 1- All Chips Left:

WildcardGW32
Bench BoostGW33
Free HitGW34
Triple CaptainSingle Gameweek
Assistant ManagerGW36-GW38

Probably the least expected scenario as most of them would have used at least one chip and rightly so. This could be really handy and you need not think about GW34 blank while making your Wildcard Draft as you have Free Hit to navigate GW34 blank.

Wildcarding in GW32 will set you up with 6 DGW players for GW32, GW33 Bench Boost(12 Double Gameweek players) and GW36 Double Gameweek as well. The idea is to target teams that double in both GW33 and GW36 on Wildcard if there are any(Potentially Manchester City, Palace and Villa).

Already Used Assistant Manager Chip alone:

Strategy 1:

WildcardGW32
Bench BoostGW33
Free HitGW34
Triple CaptainGW36

If you have already used the Assistant Manager Chip in GW24-GW26, you can go for this strategy to attack DGW33 with the Bench Boost- 12 DGW players+ Salah+ Isak. You need not worry about GW34 Blank as you have Free Hit to navigate it.

In Wildcard you will Triple up on City, Arsenal, Palace and Newcastle. Palace are confirmed to have back-to-back Doubles in GW32 and GW33 and then blanking in GW34. You can load up on Triple Palace in Wildcard and then use Free Hit to navigate GW34. You can have 12 DGW players+ Salah on GW33 Bench Boost.

Strategy 2:

WildcardGW34/GW35
Bench BoostGW36
Free HitGW34/37
Triple CaptainGW32/GW33

This strategy is mainly for managers whose teams are already loaded with City/Palace/Newcastle assets. In this strategy, Wildcard is saved up for GW34/GW35 with a GW36 Bench Boost plan. Till then you should Target players from Newcastle, Palace, Villa and Manchester City with Free Transfers. Newcastle and Palace have a confirmed Double in GW32 and Palace double in GW33 as well. Villa and Manchester City are doubling in GW33 too.

If you can manage the Blank GW34 with Free transfers, you can save up Wildcard for GW35. Else you can Wildcard in GW34 with an eye on both BGW34 and DGW36.

Triple Captain is used in GW32/GW33. Free Hit is saved up for the Blank Gameweek GW37 that is likely to be caused by FA Cup finals.

Already Used Triple Captain alone:

Strategy 1:

WildcardGW32
Bench BoostGW33
Free HitGW34
Assistant ManagerGW36-GW38

This will be one of the most template strategies if you have already used Triple Captain chip. GW37 is dealt with Free Transfers while GW34 Blank is covered by Free Hit.

Strategy 2:

WildcardGW35
Bench BoostGW33
Free HitGW34
Assistant ManagerGW36-GW38

Bench Boost is used in GW33. This strategy can work out only if your team is injury free and can get to 10+ DGW players for GW33 Bench Boost just with Free Transfers. Till the GW33 Bench Boost you should Target players from Newcastle, Palace, Villa and Manchester City with Free Transfers(To get to 10-12 DGW players for GW33 Bench Boost). After that you will have chips to manage almost every single week.

AM36-38 can work out well as it gives you a picture of what teams are playing for in the final few games based on the table position. It can help you to take guesses and chase Table Bonus points.

Strategy 3:

WildcardGW35
Bench BoostGW36
Free HitGW37
Assistant ManagerGW32-GW34

This strategy brings out the best of the Assistant Manager chip as you will have 5 games with this chip due to back-to-back Doubles in GW32 and GW33. But the only issue would be to navigate GW34 blank with just free transfers. If you already have some players for GW34 blank or have 4-5 saved Free transfers this strategy can work out.

Already Used Assistant Manager and Triple Captain Chip:

WildcardGW32/GW35
Bench BoostGW33/GW36
Free HitGW34/GW37

Based on transfer saved and the number of players you have for GW33 Doubles, The decision to Wildcard in GW32/GW35 is made. The other decisions are based around it – BB33/BB36 and FH34/FH37.

Already used Wildcard and Assistant Manager:

Strategy 1:

Triple CaptainGW32
Free HitGW34
Bench BoostGW33

This is the scenario for most of the managers who Wildcarded in GW30/GW31. As per plan Target GW33 Bench Boost with 11/12 DGW players and navigate GW34 Blank with Free Hit. GW36 Double and GW37 Blank is managed by Free Transfers.

Strategy 2:

Triple CaptainGW33/GW36
Free HitGW34
Bench BoostGW32

This is a slightly alternative strategy if you planned for GW32 Bench Boost- Your team has 6 DGW players + Good single GW players on the bench. After bench boost, you can have 9/10 DGW players+ Salah for GW33. Triple Captain is saved up for GW33/GW36.

Already Used Wildcard and Bench Boost:

Strategy 1:

Triple CaptainGW32
Free HitGW33
Assistant ManagerGW36-GW38

In this strategy, you need to plan the GW34 Blanks with Free Transfers as you are using the Free Hit to attack GW33 Doubles. With teams like Newcastle, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, and Everton not blanking in GW34- This strategy can work out well.

Strategy 2:

Triple CaptainGW36
Free HitGW37
Assistant ManagerGW32-GW34

Already used Free Hit and Triple Captain- Strategy 1

WildcardGW35
Bench BoostGW36
Assistant ManagerGW32-GW34

Already used Free Hit and Triple Captain- Strategy 2

WildcardGW32
Bench BoostGW33
Assistant ManagerGW36-GW38

Already used Free Hit and Assistant Manager

WildcardGW34/GW35
Bench BoostGW33/GW36
Triple CaptainGW32/GW33

In this case, the bench boost can be used in GW33 itself if your team is well set up with 10-12 Doublers. Else you will need to plan the WC34 in such as way that it helps you navigate BGW34 as well as attack the GW36 Doubles. If your team is decent for GW34 blank, you can push the Wildcard to GW35 with a plan to bench boost in GW36.
