FPL Chip Strategy – When to use your FPL Chips?

Wildcard

FPL Chip Strategy ~ When to use Wildcard

GW30/GW31 Wildcard:

At this moment, this looks to be the most ideal window to Wildcard mainly because:

  • Before the GW30 deadline, FA Cup Quarter Finals would have concluded and the draw for FA Cup Semis would have been made. So we will know the full and exact picture of Teams Blanking in GW34 . We will know this before the GW30 deadline. We are likely to know the Teams Doubling in GW33 before the GW31 deadline as well. So if you can postpone the Wildcard to GW31 instead of using it in GW30, you can have more information and plan accordingly.
  • This will help you navigate DGW32, DGW33 with a possible bench boost(15 Double Gameweek players) as we are likely to know the GW33 Doubles before the GW31 deadline.
  • You can use the Free Hit in GW34 to navigate the Blank Gameweek or Target the GW33 Double on Free Hit if you are using WC30/GW31 based on your team structure.
  • If you are playing Free Hit in GW29, we wouldn’t recommend Wildcarding in GW30/GW31 as it will likely leave you short in the Upcoming Double and Blank Gameweeks.

Wildcard 34:

  • This is a good strategy if you are on Free Hit GW29. Wildcarding in GW34 also you to set up for the GW34 Blank Gameweek with an eye on the upcoming Double Gameweek 36 as well. For this to work out you will be plan properly and navigate the Double Gameweek 32 and Double Gameweek 33 just with Free Transfers.

Wildcard 35:

Wildcarding in GW35 helps you to plan and use the Bench Boost in GW36 with 15 Double Gameweek players.

Pros of GW35 Wildcard:

  • You can bring in players from teams who have everything to play for – Teams involved in the title race, European places, and Relegation fight. Can avoid “Beach Team players”- Who have nothing to play for in the final 4 GWs.
  • You can bring in Differential players with high upside like Haaland, Marmoush and Foden who are likely to be less owned and have the potential to go big if City have something to play for.

Manchester City Fixtures from GW35-GW38:

  • GW35- Wolves(H)
  • GW36- Southampton(A), Bournemouth(H)* [Not confirmed, Projected Double that can happen if City/Bournemouth reach the FA Cup finals]
  • GW37- Blank*
  • GW38- Fulham(A)

Cons of GW35 Wildcard:

  • The Wildcarded team is available only for 3 weeks thereby not maximizing one of the most powerful chips in the game.
  • If GW36 is not a big double this may backfire.

Bench Boost

FPL Chip Strategy ~ When to use Bench Boost

GW32 Bench Boost:

GW32 is a small Double with only two team Doubling Newcastle and Palace Doubling. But if your team set up in a way that you have the Triple up from Newcastle and Palace and players with good single Gameweek fixtures, this might be a good shout.

GW33 Bench Boost:

This strategy can work out well in you are on WC30/WC31/WC32 and Palace beat Fulham in the FA Cup. That result would mean a likely double in GW33 for both Palace and Arsenal. With Palace already doubling in GW32, it opens up the option to Triple up on Palace in GW32. Arsenal, Man City, Palace, Villa, Manchester United and Bournemouth all doubling in GW33 would mean that you can get a good mix of cheap and expensive options to field 15 DGW players.

Note: Salah plays Leicester City(A) in GW33, even though it is a single Gameweek fixture- He has all the potential to score the DGW players. So 14 DGW players along with Salah might be the way to go if you are on GW33 Bench Boost.

GW36 Bench Boost:

This becomes a good strategy if it is an equally bigger Double compared to GW36.

However, the con of the GW36 Bench Boost plan is that GW36 might be a very small Double Gameweek if most of the Doubles land in GW33 itself. However, that scenario is not very likely.

Single Gameweek Bench Boost:

If your team structure allows you to Bench Boost in a Single Gameweek, it is definitely not a bad option to bench boost in a single gameweek this season with 15 good players. Once you are done with the chip, you can focus on 12-13 players and not worry about the bench at all.

Free Hit

FPL Chip Strategy ~ When to use Free Hit

GW29 Free Hit:

Teams that are confirmed to Blank in GW29:

  • Liverpool
  • Aston Villa
  • Newcastle
  • Crystal Palace

Pros of GW29 Free Hit:

  • All the teams that are blanking in GW29- Liverpool, Newcastle, Villa, and Palace have good fixtures after the Blank Gameweek(as seen in the below images). If you have 5-6 players from these teams like Isak, TAA, Salah, Munoz, Mateta, Sarr, and Rogers – Free Hit in GW29 can help you navigate the Blank and hold these reliable assets for the good fixtures coming up.
  • Palace and Newcastle have a confirmed Double Gameweek 32
  • Palace are likely to get another Double Gameweek in GW33 if they beat Fulham in the FA Cup.
  • Aston Villa are very likely to get a Double Gameweek in GW33 if either Villa beat Preston or Manchester City beat Bournemouth in the FA Cup which is very likely to happen.

Good fixtures for Teams Blanking in GW29 after the Blank Gameweek:

Liverpool fixtures after GW29:

Liverpool fixtures after GW29:

Newcastle fixtures after GW29:

Newcastle fixtures after GW29:

Aston Villa fixtures after GW29:

Aston Villa fixtures after GW29:

On top of this, Villa are also likely to get DGW33 vs Newcastle(H), and Man City(A) if Aston Villa beat Preston (OR) Manchester City beat Bournemouth in FA Cup QFs.

Palace fixtures after GW29:

Palace fixtures after GW29:

On Top of this, Palace are likely to get a Double Gameweek 33 vs Bournemouth(H), and Arsenal(A)if Palace beat Fulham in FA Cup QFs.

Cons of GW29 Free Hit:

  • There might not be a high upside week(Not a 100+ points week) to use the Free Hit Chip as most of the players with High points potential like Salah, TAA, Isak, Gordon, Mateta, and Munoz all blank in GW29. Wolves play Southampton in GW29 but their Talisman Cunha is suspended. Palmer is out of form and has a tough game vs Arsenal.
  • Haaland and Man City have a good fixture in GW30 vs Leicester City(H). Non-Free Hitters are likely to get Haaland for GW29 and hold for this fixture and captain him. You should find a way to get to Haaland in GW30.
  • If you can field 10-11 players in GW29 with maybe a hit or two, you can hold off your Free Hit for Blank Gameweek 34 or Double Gameweek 33 to attack the later part of the season.
  • GW33 Free Hit might be a high upside week to use the Free Hit Chip with 6 Teams likely to Double – Manchester City, Aston Villa, Brighton, West Ham, (Palace and Arsenal) or (Fulham and Southampton). That would be even better if Fulham beat Palace in the FA Cup Quarter Finals. That would mean you can get Triple Fulham on Free Hit in GW33 vs Chelsea(H), and Southampton(A) and have the Palace players for the Double in GW32 and for the fixture in Blank Gameweek 34.
  • You need to start planning for the Blank Gameweek 34 right from GW30 onwards with Free Transfers if you don’t use Wildcard in GW34 or already used it. That might be a little difficult considering you will have 2 Double Gameweeks- GW32 and GW33 in between.

GW29 Free Hit Draft:

A potential GW29 Free Hit Draft just to give you an idea of the Players to Target in GW29 Free Hit. Palmer, Gibbs-White, Gvardiol are the other ones who will be in the conversation.

Our Ultimate Free Hit Guide for GW29 covering everything you need about it- Tips, Pros, Cons, Players to Target, Best Drafts with Key Notes, etc. Must read if you are on Free Hit GW29!

GW34 Free Hit:

  • From the above fixtures, if any one of the team reach the FA Cup Semis, that fixture is a blank in GW34.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Wolves, Leicester, Newcastle, Ipswich, Spurs, and Everton are out of the FA Cup which means that they will not BLANK in GW34

Confirmed fixtures for GW34(As it stands):

  • Chelsea vs Everton
  • Liverpool vs Spurs
  • Wolves vs Leicester City
  • Newcastle vs Ipswich

It is totally team-dependent. As it stands, we know the above 8 teams are confirmed to have a fixture in GW34, and potentially more teams are likely to join in. The scenarios are already discussed above. So if your team is well set up for GW34, you can avoid using Free Hit in GW34.

  • It is slightly difficult to prepare for GW34 blank with Free Transfers as you would need Free Transfers to set up for the GW33 and GW36 Doubles/Bench Boost. Alternatively, a GW30/GW31 Wildcard coupled with GW34 Free Hit can work out well to navigate this.

FPL GW34 Free Hit Draft:

(Assuming City, Villa, Brighton, Fulham, Southampton, West Ham blank because of City/Villa, Brighton, Fulham reaching the FA Cup semis). This is a draft just to give you an idea of Players to consider in GW34 Free Hit.

GW33 Free Hit:

As it stands 4 Teams are Blanking in GW29- Newcastle, Palace, Liverpool, and Villa. 8 Teams are confirmed to have a fixture in GW34- Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle, Ipswich, Wolves, Leicester and Spurs with more teams likely to join in after the upcoming FA Cup QFs. So if you are able to navigate GW29 and GW34 blanks just with Free Transfers, Free Hit in GW33 is a good option to attack the Double Gameweek.

Potential GW33 Free Hit Draft:

(Assuming City, Villa, Brighton, Fulham, Southampton, West Ham Double in GW33 because of City/Villa, Brighton, Fulham reaching the FA Cup semis). This is a draft just to give you an idea of Players to consider in GW34 Free Hit. Things could easily change if Palace beat Fulham in FA Cup QFs. In that case, Arsenal and Palace will Double in GW33 while Southampton and Fulham won’t double.

Triple Captain

FPL Chip Strategy ~ When to use triple captain
GameweekPlayer & OppositionNotes
GW32Isak vs Man United(H), Palace(H)Confirmed Double Gameweek
GW33Haaland vs Everton(A), Villa(H)Not confirmed, But very likely assuming City or Villa will reach the FA Cup semis.
GW33Bowen vs Southampton(H), Brighton(A)Not confirmed, But likely assuming Brighton beat Forest and reach FA Cup semis
GW36Haaland vs Southampton(A), Bournemouth(H)Not confirmed but can happen if City/Bournemouth reach FA Cup finals
GW33Arsenal player vs Ipswich(A), Palace(A)Not confirmed but likely to happen if Palace beat Fulham and reach the FA Cup semis.

Assistant Manager

The Assistant Manager is the new chip that is introduced by FPL this season. It allows you to pick a manager for your team(Prices in the range of 0.5-1.5). You get points based on the results of the teams during that 3-gameweek period. There are points for a win, a draw, goals scored, and a clean sheet. There are also Table Bonus points which allows you to get bonus points if you pick a manager up against a team that is placed 5 places or above in the table. Everything you need to know about the Assistant Manager Chip with the Rules, Scoring, and FAQs is covered in detail in the below blog.

Note: It is difficult to predict when to use the Assistant Manager right now as the Premier League table keeps fluctuating based on results every week. We have listed the best possible windows and the options as well.

Tip: We think that Assistant Manager is one of the most powerful chips in the game right now and it will be a good idea to use Free Transfers within the 3 Gameweek period to get the perfect pick for that Gameweek.

Best Windows to play Assistant Manager Chip:

GW31-GW33

If you still have Assistant Manager Chip, Using it in GW31-GW33 is a great option as this is likely to be the only period where you have two back-to-back Double Gameweeks.

  • GW31: Howe vs Leicester(A)
  • GW32: Howe vs Man United(H), Palace(H)
  • GW33: Silva vs Chelsea(H), Southampton(A) *Likely Double if Fulham beat Palace and reach FA Cup semis. Cheslea game might also be Table Bonus opportunity for Silva

If Palace beat Fulham in FA Cup, then Glasner vs BOU(H), ARS(A) in GW33 is also a potential Table Bonus option. Although it is risky, Palace are in form and have delivered in away games this season.

This is a great strategy as it won’t use up much of transfers while using the Assistant manager chip. Free Transfers are precious at this point and that can be used to Navigate the Blank Gameweeks surrounding this period- GW29 and GW34.

If you are chasing points and willing to punt for Table Bonus points, you can try out these options in GW31 and GW33 for Table Bonus.

  • GW31: Emery vs NFO(H)/Potter vs BOU(H) – Both potential Table Bonus
  • DGW32: Glasner vs MCI(A), NEW(A)- Both potential Table Bonus games

GW35-GW37

  • GW35: Pep vs WOL(H)
  • GW36: Pep vs SOU(A), BOU(H)* (Projected DGW, not confirmed)
  • GW37: Hurzeler vs LIV(H) or Potter vs NFO(H)- Chase Table Bonus If Liverpool and Forest have nothing to play for in the final few weeks.

This is a good option if Manchester City are in the top 4 race and knocked out of other cup competitions. However, if you are chasing points in your mini-leagues and targeting table bonus, you can go for Ange in GW36 with a Projected Double vs CRY(H), AVL(A) with both games having Table Bonus potential.

GW36-GW38

  • GW36- Pep vs SOU(A), BOU(H)* (Projected DGW, not confirmed)
  • GW37- Amorim vs CHE(A) or Potter vs NFO(A)
  • GW38- Amorim vs AVL(H) or a Team who are fighting to save against relegation on the final day vs a Team who don’t have anything to play for like Wolves vs BRE(H) or Ipswich vs WHU(H).

After the GW31- GW33 window, We think that GW36-GW38 or GW35-GW37could be the next best window to use the Assistant Manager chip because, towards the end of the season, there will be teams who have everything to play for – Title Race, European places, and Relegation Battle. At the same time, there will be teams who have nothing to play for. Teams in 16th, 17th, and 18th playing against teams 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th(Beach teams) could work in favor of Table Bonus Points.

2024/25 FPL Chip Strategy

Have all Chips Left

FPL Chip Strategy 1- All Chips Left:

WildcardGW30/GW31
Bench BoostGW33
Free HitGW34
Triple CaptainGW32
Assistant ManagerGW36-GW38

This is one of our favorite Chip Strategies to consider right now if you have all you chips left. This could be really handy and you need not think about GW34 blank while making your Wildcard Draft as you have Free Hit to navigate GW34 blank.

Wildcarding in GW30/GW31 will set you up for the GW32 Triple Captain(Isak), GW33 Bench Boost(15 Double Gameweek players) and GW36 Double Gameweek as well. The idea is to target teams that double in both GW33 and GW36 on Wildcard if there are any(Potentially Manchester City and Villa).

FPL Chip Strategy 2- All Chips Left:

WildcardGW35
Bench BoostGW36
Free HitGW29
Triple CaptainSingle Gameweek
Assistant ManagerGW31-GW33

To maximize Assistant Manager Chip it is played in GW31-GW33 with the likely 2 Double Gameweek landing there. But this slightly messes up the other chips if your team is not set up well. Either Triple Captain or Bench Boost needs to be played in a Single Gameweek. If your team is set up well for it, then it is a good strategy.

FPL Chip Strategy 3- All Chips Left:

WildcardGW30/GW31
Bench BoostGW32
Free HitGW33
Triple CaptainSingle Gameweek
Assistant ManagerGW36-38

Already Used Assistant Manager Chip alone:

Strategy 1:

WildcardGW30/GW31
Bench BoostGW33
Free HitGW34
Triple CaptainGW32

If you have already used the Assistant Manager Chip in GW24-GW26, the first thing you should do is check how many players you have for GW29 Blank Gameweek. If you are able to field 10/11 players for GW29 without any hits then you can save up Free Hit for GW34 Blank Gameweek. Else you need to use the Free Hit in GW29 and prepare for GW34 Blank with Free Transfers.

This strategy can work really well if Palace beat Fulham in FA Cup QFs. That would mean Palace having back-to-back Doubles in GW32 and GW33 and then blanking in GW34. You can load up on Triple Palace in Wildcard and then use Free Hit to navigate GW34. Wildcard is used in GW30 to load up your team for the rest of the season along with a planned Bench Boost in GW33 with 15 DGW players.

Strategy 2:

WildcardGW30/GW31
Bench BoostGW32
Free HitGW33
Triple CaptainGW36

This is an effective strategy to consider if Fulham beat Palace in FA Cup QFs and then Double in GW33. You can use the Free Hit chip to Triple up on Fulham with one of the fixtures vs Southampton. GW32 Bench Boost is done with 6 DGW players and 9 Single Gameweek players. Although it doesn’t sound great with just 6 DGW players, you can have the premiums players with a SGW and the cheap assets from Palace and Newcastle who can help you in Bench Boost. You should navigate Gameweek 34 with Free Transfers saved from prior weeks in this strategy.

Triple Captain is left as late as GW36 with the hope that Manchester City Double in GW36 giving you a Differential Triple Captain option.

Strategy 3:

WildcardGW34/35
Bench BoostGW36
Free HitGW29
Triple CaptainGW32/GW33

This strategy is mainly for managers who are planning to Free Hit in GW29. In this strategy, Wildcard is saved up for GW34/GW35 with a GW36 Bench Boost plan. Till then you should Target players from Newcastle, Palace, Villa and Manchester City with Free Transfers. Newcastle and Palace have a confirmed Double in GW32 and Palace have good chances to Double in GW33 as well if they beat Fulham. Villa and Manchester City are very likely to Double in GW33 too.

If you can manage the Blank GW34 with Free transfers, you can save up Wildcard for GW35. Else you can Wildcard in GW34 with an eye on both BGW34 and DGW36.

Triple Captain is used in GW32/GW33. You can also pre-pone the Bench Boost(GW32/GW33) if your team is well set up for it with just Free Transfers.

Already Used Triple Captain alone:

Strategy 1:

WildcardGW30/GW35
Bench BoostGW36
Free HitGW34
Assistant ManagerGW31-GW33

If you have already used the Triple Captain chip, then the first decision to make is when you are going to use the Assistant Manager Chip- One of the most powerful chips in the game. We feel that Assistant Manager chip is best used if there are 2 Double Gameweeks in the space of 3 Gameweeks. GW31-GW33 is the only likely window that happens.

Take the call for GW29/GW34 Free Hit based on the Team structure. If your team is set up well for the GW33 Doubles, you can use the Wildcard as late as GW35 to maximize GW36 Bench Boost.

Strategy 2:

WildcardGW30/GW31
Bench BoostGW32/GW33
Free HitGW34
Assistant ManagerGW36-GW38

This will be one of the most template strategies if you have already used Triple Captain chip. GW29 is dealt with Free Transfers while GW34 Blank is covered by Free Hit.

Strategy 3:

WildcardGW34/GW35
Bench BoostGW32/GW33
Free HitGW29
Assistant ManagerGW36-GW38

This one is for FH29 gang who have used Triple Captain chip alone. FH29 coupled with WC34 is a good strategy if your team is set up nicely. Wildcard can cover the GW34 Blank and can also put you in a decent position for GW36 Doubles. Bench Boost can be used in GW32/GW33 based on Team composition. Till the Wildcard you should Target players from Newcastle, Palace, Villa and Manchester City with Free Transfers.

AM36-38 can work out well as it gives you a picture of what teams are playing for in the final few games based on the table position. It can help you to take guesses and chase Table Bonus points.

Already Used Assistant Manager and Triple Captain Chip:

WildcardGW30/GW35
Bench BoostGW33/GW36
Free HitGW29/GW34

Based on transfer saved and the number of players you have for GW29, The decision to Free Hit or not in GW29 is made. The other decisions are based around it – WC30/BB33 or WC35/BB36.

Already Used Wildcard and Bench Boost:

Strategy 1:

Triple CaptainGW32
Free HitGW33
Assistant ManagerGW36-GW38

In this strategy, you need to plan the GW29 and GW34 Blanks with Free Transfers as you are using the Free Hit to attack GW33 Doubles. With teams like Newcastle, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, and Everton not blanking in GW34- This strategy can work out well.

Strategy 2:

Triple CaptainGW36
Free HitGW34
Assistant ManagerGW31-GW33

Conclusion:

There is no right or wrong strategy in FPL. It is totally team-dependent. We have come up with these Strategies and information so that it will be helpful in coming up with your own strategy based on your team.
