FPL GW15 Tips & Preview
1. Alexander Isak
Many are frustrated with Isak due to his blank and subsequent injury substitution in gameweeks 12 and 13. At the time of writing, the Newcastle v Liverpool fixture is still to play and Isak has stated that he should be fit for it but is still not 100% confirmed to feature.
I would keep Isak in my team and focus my transfers on other areas of my squad. After the Liverpool fixture, Newcastle have a great run of attacking fixtures including great home fixtures to score goals.
Although they have been inconsistent this season, trust them to bounce back and score goals in this period. If their defence continues to leak goals, it will be even more reason for them to attack and try score multiple goals each week.
Isak is on penalties and can provide both goals and assists with his playmaking ability. He has been getting in to great positions and takes multiple shots every match he starts in. He is one of the best strikers in the Premier League and Newcastle has the talent in the side to deliver him chances as the spearhead of the attack.
2. Brennan Johnson
Johnson has quietly been having a great season for Spurs so far. 6 goals from 11 starts and 2 sub appearances is a great return, especially for an FPL asset worth less than 7m.
Brennan has been the recipient of many back post finishes that he simply needs to tap in to the net thanks to his pace and positioning skill. He has an opportunity or multiple opportunities to score almost every fixture and can thrive against the big six as well as relegation level opposition.
His underlying data shows that he has been unlucky to not potentially score more and he has the assist potential from cutback passes to combine with goal scoring chances to earn points.
Top Midfielders for Non-Penalty xG since GW6:
Spurs have mixed fixtures going forward but Johnson can be seen as a solid Mbeumo replacement as he can be held long term as his points tick along. Spurs have most of their creative players fit at the moment and Johnson should continue to start nearly every fixture going forward.
3. Daniel Munoz – One To Watch
Munoz was signed by Crystal Palace during the 23/24 season and has been a mainstay in the team ever since. He impressed under Oliver Glasner with 4 assists in 16 league starts. This was backed by solid underlying numbers and good goal threat as he makes late runs into the box from the right wing.
I started this FPL season with Munoz in my lineup but it was clear that Palace had not settled and were lacking confidence in their team in the opening weeks. With a goal in GW13 and a clean sheet in GW14, he is showing the value he can bring when Palace are in form and firing.
Munoz has averaged almost two shots per match (with a solid xG value per shot) in recent weeks and has delivered at least one key pass in each fixture. He has missed a big chance or two in this time which shows he likely could have scored even more points.
Top Defenders for xG over the last 5 Gameweeks:
The fixtures open up very nicely for Crystal Palace in GW18 which is only a few quick weeks away. The fixture run has a good mix of attacking potential and also clean sheet possibility to make the 4.7m asset a definite transfer consideration and one to watch. He is selected by less than 2% of managers so he would be a great differential to your lineup.
4. GW15 Key Fixture Analysis
Everton v Liverpool. Many managers didn’t captain Salah in gameweek 14 due to a tough away fixture against Newcastle. This week is a similar test with a Merseyside derby fixture which is notoriously low scoring and cagey.
Six of the last seven Merseyside derby fixtures have featured less than two goals in the match.
Sean Dyche’s Everton side were one of the top teams for clean sheets last season and after a shaky start to this campaign, they have managed to string some clean sheets together in recent weeks.
Liverpool always look at their best when counter attacking and exposing a team’s defence. If Everton are to sit back and soak pressure at home as they do best, they could frustrate Liverpool and Salah. I prefer Palmer or Jackson as captaincy options due to their fixture against Tottenham which should be an open affair with multiple goal scoring opportunities.
Spurs v Chelsea. Spurs v Chelsea should be the most action-packed fixture of the gameweek. Both teams will have their fair share of goalscoring opportunities in what should be a free-flowing game of football.
Both teams will believe they can win the fixture and the bookies currently have the fixture at over 70% likelihood to have 3 or more goals scored.
Palmer & Jackson should thrive for Chelsea while Son & Johnson should be the biggest beneficiaries for Spurs.
I would bench any defenders featuring in this fixture.
