Euro Fantasy MD5: Best Players to Target + Captaincy Options

In this article, we look at the best players to focus on Euro 2024 Fantasy MD5: Quarter-finals. The information is based on the performances during the tournament for all 8 remaining teams.

The first thing to notice is that from now on, you shouldn’t expect many point differences among teams as almost everyone will select similar players. So the situation won’t be like the first four matchdays where you can boost a lot, although there is still a chance that your rank changes a lot after this round.

Euro Fantasy MD5 – Players to Target

Germany vs Spain (5th of July)

Euro Fantasy MD5 - Best Players to Target ~ Musiala

They are probably the best two teams in the competition so far, and they face each other in a tough game as the first match of the quarter-finals. They had the most goals (Germany 10 & Spain 9) and the highest expected goals (Spain 8.9 & Germany7.7) among all the teams in the tournament, so it’s expected that their match will also involve some goals if they keep playing the same style (which may not be the case in this phase of the competition!).

  • J. Musiala (€8.5m-MID) / I. Gundogan (€7.1m-MID) / K. Havertz (€7.5m-FWD): Top three players among German attackers in order. Musiala has been simply their best player so far as he blanked only in one match. Havertz seems to be a more interesting asset than Gundogan, especially now that we know he is the penalty-taker, but some other tempting forwards might convince you to ignore him.
  • F. Ruiz (€6.5m-MID) / N. Williams (€7m-MID) / L. Yamal (€6.5m-FWD): Top Spanish assets in order if you wish to invest in their attack. Ruiz and Williams already proved themselves with a fantastic performance in the round of 16 as each could get 10 points. Yamal is also such an interesting player but he has the same issue as Havertz (occupying a Forward spot in the team).
  • A. Rudiger (€5.5m-DEF) / M. Cucurella (€4.5m-DEF): I assume they are the best defensive assets from each side. It seems tricky to pick a defender from either team for this match but it’s worth owing them as they are ball recovery masters and they will probably have some returns regardless of keeping a clean sheet or not.

Portugal vs France (5th of July)

Euro Fantasy MD5 - Best Players to Target ~ Cristiano Ronaldo

Another tough match on the first day of this round between two teams that couldn’t overcome their opponents as it was first predicted. France have only scored three goals by now (two own-goals and one penalty), while Portugal failed to score against Slovenia during 120 mins and then won on penalties (in the round of 16). It’s difficult to predict anything about this match, although there are some players that can potentially earn fantasy points for your team.

  • K. Mbappe (€11m-FWD): The only French attacker that you may consider for your team. Although he couldn’t shine as one of the world’s best players in this tournament, he is still the best player in France and is surely looking to impress everyone in the match against Portugal and his idle; Cristiano Ronaldo.
  • B. Fernandes (€9m-MID) / B. Silva (€8.5m-MID) / C. Ronaldo (€10m-FWD): My top three Portuguese attacking assets in order. Fernandes and Silva seem to be attractive options as they always have such important roles in the team, while Ronaldo is looking to finally score his first goal in his sixth Euro appearance and he has the highest xGI (npxG+xA) among all the players in the competition!
  • J. Kounde (€5m-DEF) / Pepe (€5m-DEF) / D. Costa (€5m-GK): Kounde and Pepe are the best defenders from each side because they have a high number of ball recoveries and possibly will gain some fantasy returns for that. Costa can also redo his heroic performance against Slovenia (by saving all three penalties during the penalty shootouts) if the match doesn’t end during 120 minutes.

England vs Switzerland (6th of July)

Euro Fantasy MD5 - Best Players to Target ~ Vargas

England was the favorite of the tournament at first, but they couldn’t perform well during the group stage and round of 16. They even were about to be eliminated by Slovakia, but Bellingham and Kane could save them with their goals. Switzerland is also one of the most solid teams in the competition this year as they didn’t lose to Germany in the group stage and easily won Italy in the round of 16.

  • H. Kane (€11m-FWD) / J. Bellingham (€9.5m-MID): They are the best-attacking picks from England as they are the only English players who could score for their team in the tournament (2 goals for each). So if you think England can perform well in this match, these two are obviously among your fantasy picks in attack.
  • R. Vargas (€6m-MID): He is the best-attacking asset among Swiss players and he proved it in the round of 16 by gaining 14 points (goal + assist + Player of the Match award). He already had the highest xGI among their players after three matches of the group stage but was unlucky to have a return during those games.
  • K. Walker (€5.5m-DEF) / M. Akanji (€5m-DEF): with Guehi ruled out due to a suspension, Walker is my favorite choice among English defensive players (Pickford is also mentionable if you are considering a goalkeeper). Akanji is also a ball recovery monster (among the top three DEFs) and is the best pick if you want to own a defender from Switzerland.

Netherlands vs Turkiye (6th of July)

Euro Fantasy MD5 - Best Players to Target ~ Gakpo

This match seems to be the most interesting match fantasy-wise in this round as the Netherlands is highly predicted to overcome Turkiye. The Dutch team could easily win against Romania in the previous round (3-0) while Turkiye had much difficulties against Austria. They could score 2 goals (with xG 0.92), but surprisingly conceded only 1 as Austria had xG of 3.14 and 21 shots!

  • C. Gakpo (€7.5m-FWD): He is the best striker the Netherlands have in this tournament and the forward with the most goal contributions (3 goals + 1 assist) among all the forwards in the competition. He already proved his sharpness in the round of 16 by gaining 12 points (goal + assist + Player of the Match award) and it seems essential to own him for the match against Turkiye.
  • X. Simons (€7m-MID): The best Dutch midfielder in the tournament with 3 assists and he is surely capable of adding more fantasy points in this round. It’s interesting to double up (or even triple up) on the Netherlands attacking assets if you wish your rank to jump after this round.
  • V. Van Dijk (€6m-DEF) / N. Ake (€5.5m-DEF) / S. De Vrij (€5m-DEF) / B. Verbruggen (€4.5m-GK): They all are great defensive picks for this round as the Netherlands have a high chance of keeping a clean sheet (the highest among all teams) and bringing some fantasy points for those who own their defenders in their teams. Van Dijk and De Vrij are also ball recovery masters, while Ake provided 2 assists during the group stage.

Euro Fantasy MD5 – Best Captains

Best Captain Picks Day 1 (5th of July)

Euro Fantasy MD5 - Best Captain Options ~ Mbappe
  • Safe PickJ. Musiala (€8.5m-MID) and K. Mbappe (€11m-FWD) seem to be the safest players from each tough match of the first day for captaincy. They are one-form and play for the team with a slightly higher chance of winning according to the odds.
  • Risky Pick: if you wish to gamble, then C. Ronaldo (€10m-FWD) and K. Havertz (€7.5m-FWD) are the players who might gain even more points than the safe options. They are both on penalties for their teams and have a lot to play against their opponents in this round.

Best Captain Picks Day 2 (6th of July)

Euro Fantasy MD5 - Best Captain Options ~ Bellingham
  • Safe Pick: I assume C. Gakpo (€7.5m-FWD) might be by far the safest captaincy option for the second day of the quarter-finals. He is one the most in-form players in the tournament right now and has the easiest fixture in this round.
  • Risky Pick: if you want to take a risk and avoid selecting a Dutch captain, then probably H. Kane (€11m-FWD) and J. Bellingham (€9.5m-MID) are the ones who shine and lead England in the other match of the second day.
