The Euros are here, this time after a shorter space of 3 years. Who will become the Surprise package this year? Will we have another Herculean story like what Greece did in 2004?

Or will one of the favorites win it easily this year? Will it finally “Come home”? Will France finally win the Euros after 2000? What will happen to the Defending Champions Italy this year? Or will the Host Nation Germany finally get back to top form after the 2014 World Cup?

EURO 2024 Group A – Preview

GERMANY

Will the hosts be having a Party this summer?

• FIFA World Ranking – 16
• Qualification Record – Host Nation, so did not have to play the Qualifiers. 13 Friendlies played. W5, D2, L6
• Goals For – 21
• Goals Against – 23

Strengths:

Being put in a Decent Group, Germany should expect to qualify as the Winner or Runner-up. Compared to their form last year, there is Optimism in Germany after the success of the German clubs in European competitions. Plus the return of “Midfield Maestro Toni Kroos” for 1 last hurrah, the rise of Wonder Boy Florian Wirtz, and the form of Kai Havertz should galvanize the Germans who usually tend to do well at home (look at the UCL home form of the German clubs).

Robert Andrich’s form means Germany have finally got a like-for-like replacement after Sami Khedira’s retirement to negate counter-attacking goals, which is Germany’s major weakness.

Weaknesses: 

However, the form of the Bayern players could be a bit concerning. That could also spur them on to perform better at the tournament. The Defense, as usual, is not the best with Tah, Mittelstadt/Raum & Kimmich not the strongest defensively. Only Rudiger is a world-class defender.

Germany Euro 2024 Predicted Lineup: 

Raum instead of Mitttelstadt at Left Back & Sane in place of Musiala the main changes that could happen.

• Free Kicks – Kroos/Sane
• Corners – Kroos/Kimmich

Top Euro 2024 Fantasy Assets from Germany

1. Florian Wirtz (7.5 Mid) – Brilliant form and confidence, Bundesliga Player of the Season. Prefer him to Musiala as he is 1 Million cheaper. 
2. Kai Havertz (7.5 Fwd) – Arsenal’s player of the Season in the 2nd half. Finally rediscovering himself after his move from Leverkusen to the Premier League. A Mid range forward will help you to go for 2 other Premium Forwards, 1 Premium Midfielder & a good solid defense.
3. Maximillian Mittelstadt (4 Def) – Budget Gem Unlocked, that too for a Big European Nation. Should start over Raum at Left back & if he does, he will become a Cheat Code for Fantasy Managers. Fairly attacking Fullback with 6 Goal Contributions for Stuttgart in the league & 1 Goal in 2 Matches for Germany.
4. Notable Mentions – Toni Kroos (6.5) – Set Pieces, Ball Recoveries & potential MOTM award points & Ilkay Gundogan (7) – Will play higher up the pitch, behind Havertz, has penalties & will get decent ball recoveries. A Fox in the Box as well.

SCOTLAND

The Scots will aim to make it out of the Group Stage for the 1^st time.

• FIFA World Ranking – 39
• Qualification Record – W5, D2, L1
• Goals For – 17
• Goals Against – 8

Strengths:

A Never Say Die Attitude got them impressive victories over Spain & Norway in qualifying. The Midfield looks strong and organized. They should not be taken lightly.

Weaknesses: 

Their defensive injuries especially at Right back could become a problem. Also, their strikers are not the most prolific. A lot of responsibility lies on the Midfield duo of Mctominay & McGinn. Their recent form after Qualifying is also quite concerning.

Scotland Euro 2024 Predicted Lineup:

Clarke has favoured using wing-backs and his formation tends to be a 5-4-1 out of possession, which turns into a 3-4-2-1 when his side have the ball.

Dykes is likely to be the first-choice striker, as his valuable work off-the-ball compensates for his meagre scoring record, while McGinn and Gilmour/Christie will join him in attack as the most advanced midfielders, with McTominay given a freer role and tasked with getting into the box and hopefully continuing his remarkable scoring rate from qualifying.

Scotland XI (3-4-2-1): Gunn; Porteous, Hendry, Tierney; Ralston, McGregor, Gilmour, Robertson; McGinn, McTominay, Dykes

• Penalties – McGinn 
• Free Kicks – McGinn/Christie/Robertson

Top Euro 2024 Fantasy Assets from Scotland – 

1. Scott McTominay (6.5 Mid) – Turned into Prime Lampard!! 7 Goals, 1 Assist in 8 Matches in Qualifying. Scored crucial goals for his country and club. Late runs into the box is his specialty. Ball Recovery points up his sleeve too.
2. John McGinn (6.5 Mid) – His goalscoring form has increased this season for Villa & Scotland. On Penalties & set pieces and a Big Ball Recovery Merchant as well. 
3. Andy Robertson (5.5 Def) – The reason I have included Robbo over the other cheap defenders is because of his attacking threat & share of set pieces. 2 Goals at the end of the season for Liverpool will increase his confidence. Good source of Ball Recoveries as well.
4. Notable Mention – Kieran Tierney (5) – Ball Recovery Monster with 5.8 per match. Do not expect Scotland to keep clean sheets, so Ball Recoveries will help. Sometimes wanders into midfield & gets into promising goal-scoring positions.

SWITZERLAND

Can they repeat the heroics of the Last Euros & make the Quarters again?

• FIFA World Ranking – 19
• Qualification Record – W4, D5, L1
• Goals For – 22
• Goals Against – 11

Strengths: Defensively solid is what we associate with the Swiss team. Very few losses & hard to beat for any team is their main characteristic. 

Weaknesses: On the other hand, Inconsistency and patchy form is holding the team back. Finishing 2^nd in an easy Group behind Romania is not what’s expected from them. Overall an ageing squad will not help matters at the Euros.

Switzerland Euro 2024 Predicted Lineup

Head coach Yakin is expected to field his team in a 3-4-1-2 formation, with the experienced Sommer in goal. Although, his most common lineup has been 4-2-3-1 and that could lead to some minor changes. 

Forming a solid defence at the back will likely be Akanji, Elvedi, and Rodriguez. Schar could come in for Rodriguez if needed. In the midfield, Xhaka, Freuler, Vargas, and Zakaria are likely to make an impact.

Shaqiri, Amdouni, and Okafor are likely to form an inverted triangle in the final third.

Switzerland(3-4-1-2): Sommer; Akanji, Elvedi, Rodriguez; Xhaka, Freuler, Vargas, Zakaria; Shaqiri, Amdouni ,Okafor.

Switzerland Euro 2024 Set Piece Takers: 

• Penalties – Shaqiri
• Free Kicks – Shaqiri/Xhaka
• Corners – Shaqiri/Xhaka

Top Euro 2024 Fantasy Assets from Switzerland

1. Manuel Akanji (5 Def) – Ball Recovery Magnet. 2^nd most Ball Recoveries in the Qualifiers after Finland’s Ivanov. Also, a big threat on Set Pieces. Swiss defense is always a good place to invest & Akanji will have a solid Base of 3-4 points every match. A Safe pick in my opinion. 
2. Xherdan Shaqiri (6.5 Mid) – On all set pieces and penalties, Shaqiri loves performing on the Big stage. Capable of scoring long-range goals too. Shaqiri will aim to put up a show at the Euros.
3. Granit Xhaka (6 Mid) – The Captain will play higher up the pitch for his Country. Has had an outstanding season for his club and will be looking to transfer that form for his Country. 2 Goals and 2 Assists and close to 4 Ball Recoveries/Match in the Qualifiers. Also on some free kicks. Good budget midfielder.
4. Notable Mention – Yann Sommer (5) – Amazing shot-stopper and a very good Penalty save record. An alternate route to the Swiss defense if you are picking higher-upside defenders from other teams.

HUNGARY

Can the Magyars reclaim their lost glory with their swashbuckling attacking football?

• FIFA World Ranking – 26
• Qualification Record – W5, D3, L0
• Goals For – 16
• Goals Against – 7

Strengths: Opposite to the Swiss, Hungary play an all-out attacking style of football. 2 Goals per game average and rising confidence among the squad will help them massively. They also have a very good record against Germany in recent times & will fancy their chances to top the group. In a group with teams such as Germany & Scotland, not the strongest defensively, expect Hungary to do well.

Weaknesses: They are not the strongest defensively & their over-reliance on Szoboszlai could become a problem if other teams figure out how to stop him. 

Hungary Euro 2024 Predicted Lineup

Head coach Marco Rossi is expected to field his team in a 3-4-3 formation, with Gulacsi in goal.

Forming a solid defence at the back will likely be Botka/Orban, Lang, and Szalai. In the midfield, Nego, Nagy, Szoboszlai, and probably Kleinheisler/Styles.

Adam, Sallai, and Varga are likely to form the attacking trip in the final third.

Hungary (3-4-3): Gulacsi; Orban, Lang and Szalai; Nego, Nagy, Szoboszlai, Kleinheisler; Adam, Sallai, Varga.

• Free Kicks – Szoboszlai
• Corners – Szoboszlai

Top Euro 2024 Fantasy Assets from Hungary

1. Dominik Szoboszlai (7 Mid) – A Standout pick in this Group. On penalties, corners, free kicks, and involved in everything in the attacking third. The definition of a Talisman. What’s not to love about him?
2. Barnabas Varga (6 Fwd) – 4 Goals in 6 Qualifiers. Great season for his club with 20 goals in 24 Matches. Spearheading the Hungary attack since his debut and he’s a goal threat. A late bloomer, he looks to be the striker Hungary have been missing for a while.
3. Adam Nagy (5.5 Mid) – Playing in defensive midfield, he averages 6 Ball Recoveries per match. A Solid base of 4-5 points for a cheap price tag.
4. Notable Mention – Adam Lang and Loic Nego (4 Def) – Lang is a Ball Recovery machine & averaged around 5.5 Ball Recoveries per game while Nego got 2 assists when playing as a Wingback.
