Top FPL Gameweek 26 Captain Picks Based on Analysis & Metrics

Welcome back to another captaincy metrics blog, the blank gameweek ahead of us has made captaincy interesting this week. The popular FPL Gameweek 26 captain picks include Haaland, Hojlund, Hwang, Watkins, and Saka. Let’s see who amongst the five players tops the captaincy metrics this week, will it be Haaland, or would it be someone else taking the top spot?

Note: “Returns” ~ player topping the metrics getting points returns and not necessarily the highest scoring option of the week.

Haaland without a surprise takes the top spot in the captaincy poll with a whopping 55% of the votes. Watkins is 2nd on the captaincy poll with just 13% of the votes. Hwang is 3rd with 9% of the votes. Bukayo Saka and Hojlund take the 4th and 5th spots with 9% and 6% votes respectively.

This is an interesting week for the metrics with Hojlund and Hwang Hee Chan making their captaincy metrics debut!

Saka takes the top spot, the Arsenal attacker has registered 16 shots inside the box, 8 big chances, and an impressive xG of 5.22 in the last six games. Finishing above Haaland in this table is in itself a special feat!

Haaland is behind Saka with an xG of 4.65 and an impressive 23 shots inside the box, and 8 big chances in the last six games.

Hojlund is 3rd registering an xG of 3.47 in the last six games along with 6 big chances, and 6 chances created.

Watkins is 4th with seven big chances in the last six games and xG of 3.33, he has also created 9 chances in the last six games.

Hwang is last with an xG of 2.39 in the last six games.

Arsenal’s dominance in the last six games can be seen in this table, the gunners have registered a healthy xG of 15.48 during the period. They have had 76 shots inside the box and 23 big chances which is also the highest highest amongst the five teams in the table.

Man City are 2nd in the table with an xG of 13.62. The Blues are 1st for shots inside the box(87) in the last six games.

Aston Villa are 3rd in the table with an xG of 12.18. The Villans are 2nd for big chances(20) in the last six games.

Man United are 4th with an xG of 10.37 and have had 14 big chances in the last six games.

Wolves are last with an xG of 10.13 which is the lowest amongst the five teams.

In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates. 

We will use DraftHound’s odds for a Team scoring at least one goal in the Gameweek and the Odds of Scoring more than 2.0 goals in the Gameweek as a whole.

Arsenal narrowly edge Man City with a 90% odds of at least 1 goal in the gameweek and 48% odds of scoring 2+ goals this week.

Man City have a 89% odds of at least 1 goal in the gameweek and 45% odds of scoring 2+ goals this week.

Aston Villa, Wolves and Man United all have a 86% odds of at least 1 goal in the gameweek and 38% odds of scoring 2+ goals this week.

In the Fourth Phase of the article, I have used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points Tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week. 

Haaland tops the projection rank table with an anytime returns projection of 70% and a 7.6 points projection in FPL Gameweek 26.

Saka takes the 2nd spot with an anytime returns projection of 63% and a points projection of 6.7

Watkins is 3rd with an anytime returns projection of 57% and a points projection of 5.9

Hwang is 4th with an anytime returns projection of 45% and a points projection of 5.2.

Lastly, Hojlund finishes 5th with an anytime returns projection of 45% and a points projection of 5.2

In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). The Candidate having the lowest Cumulative Rank Factor is the most ideal Captaincy Option according to this metric. 

Saka tops our FPL Gameweek 26 Captaincy Metrics hence becoming the  best FPL BGW26 Captain Pick according to our captaincy metrics

Saka takes the top spot with a cumulative rank factor(CRF) of 5. He’s closely followed by Haaland who finishes with a CRF of 7. Watkins takes the 3rd spot with a CRF of 13. Hojlund is fourth with a CRF of 15. Hwang takes the 5th and last spot with a CRF of 17.
