The long wait is finally over. The second international break is nearing its end and sanity will resume over the weekend. This week (and the next) will be the one when most managers will play their Wildcards as a lot of teams will see huge fixture swings.
So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) – MID, Liverpool – 35.1% TSB
If there’s one player you should definitely have in your GW9 team, especially if it’s a Wildcard team, it’s Mr. FPL – none other than Mo Salah. By his standards, Salah has had a little subdued season so far. He has been the provider, and not the scorer. Even then, he is the highest-scoring player in FPL. Such is his prowess.
Salah has blanked only once this season. Among MIDs, Salah is ranked
- 1st for FPL points
- 1st for Goal Involvements
- 1st for xG
- 1st for xGI
- 1st for Big Chances
- 1st for Big Chances Created
- 2nd for Goals
- 2nd for Shots in the Box
- 2nd for Shots on Target
- 3rd for Assists
- 3rd for xA
- 3rd for Shots
Liverpool is ranked 2nd in terms of xG. Liverpool’s long-term fixtures are amazing to say the least and expect Salah to feast on most of them.

Ollie Watkins (£8.1m) – FWD, Aston Villa – 30.6% TSB
Aston Villa has a dream fun of fixtures in the short to medium term.
Aston Villa so far
- 2nd for Shots in the Box
- 3rd for Goals Scored
- 4th for xG
- 4th for xG Open Play
Like Salah, Watkins too has blanked only once this season. Among FWDs, Watkins is ranked
- 1st for FPL points
- 1st for Goal Involvements
- 1st for Assists
- 1st for Big Chances Created
- 2nd for Shots
- 2nd for Shots in the Box
- 3rd for Goals
- 3rd for xG Open Play
- 4th for xG
- 4th for xGI
- 4th for xGNP
- 4th for Big Chances
However, he has been a tad profligate. He is ranked joint 2nd for Big Chances Missed behind Haaland and tied with the wasteful Jackson.
He scored in the friendly against Australia last weekend. If he can continue finishing his chances, soon his ownership will soar through the roof.

FPL GW9 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD
Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) – MID, Manchester United – 17.2% TSB
Not too many managers have been patient to hold on to Bruno. At that price point, he has been a very tough hold, especially when players costing same or even lesser have outscored him. But if, a big IF, you’ve held on to him till now, it might be a good idea to hold him a little longer.
Man Utd’s short-term fixtures are very appealing.
Sheffield, Fulham, Luton & Everton all rank in the bottom half of the table in terms of goals conceded. In fact, his GW9 opponents are ranked rock bottom for
- Goals conceded
- Clean sheets
- Shots conceded
- Shots in box conceded
- Shots on target conceded
- Big chances conceded
- xG conceded
- xGNP conceded
Bruno is the talisman for Man Utd. He leads his teammates in terms of
- FPL points
- Goals
- xA
- xGI
- NPxGI
So it might be worth holding Bruno for a few more weeks.

Erling Haaland (£14.0m) – FWD, Manchester City – 88.5% TSB
You must be shocked to see Haaland’s name in the list of HOLD. Trust me, I am equally flabbergasted to see the Norwegian drop in price for the first time after coming to England. People are probably selling him to accommodate Salah. Haaland’s recent form and Man City’s tough run of fixtures aren’t helping his cause either. But going without him is like playing with fire.
He faces BHA at home in GW9. The same BHA who has not kept a single Clean Sheet despite facing Luton, Wolves, West Ham and Bournemouth. The same BHA against whom Watkins scored 23 and Salah scored 15 in the last two GWs.
Last year, in the same fixture, Haaland netted a brace at Etihad. He is also among the goals as he scored a brace in the Euro Qualifiers against Cyprus. So, I wouldn’t dare to go without Haaland. He is fixture-proof; he is form-proof.

Ben Chilwell (£5.5m) – DEF, Chelsea – 8.3% TSB
Ben Chilwell will be out of action for a further six weeks (minimum) as he recovers from the hamstring injury he sustained against Brighton & Hove Albion in September. During Chelsea’s Carabao Cup victory against Brighton, Chilwell injured his hamstring. There are certain newspapers which claim that Chilwell will be absent until at least December – and it’s not even guaranteed that he will return this year.
Hence, it is advised that managers move on from Chilwell.

Raheem Sterling (£7.0m) – MID, Chelsea – 9.4% TSB
Chelsea are ranked 20th in terms of FDR for the next 6 GWs and it’s not a surprise.
Sterling has been the biggest FPL troll this season. After his bumper performance against Luton, he returned 6 points in 4 games against the likes of NFO, BOU and FUL. So don’t be fooled by his haul against Burnley at home last week. There are plenty of great assets at that price point who are far more consistent and have better fixtures.
