We are fast approaching the final deadline before the world cup break with Man City once again playing the first game of the gameweek this time being an early kick-off. There’s always the popular FPL saying never back the early kickoff, but do we ignore it considering Man City are playing? it’s actually a bit tricky as Pep still did not confirm that Haaland is fully fit to play. Anyways coming back, In this FPL Gameweek 16 Captain Picks let’s analyze the top captaincy candidate and see who tops our captaincy metrics for FPL GW16.
The metrics had a 30/38 “returns record” last season and so far has a 12/14 “returns record” this season. Do follow the man behind the metrics @AK_FPL1(Do follow him on Twitter)
Note: “Returns” ~ player topping the metrics getting points returns and not necessarily the highest scoring option of the week. Metrics total points so far: 262 points(24+10+12+34+34+18+12+46+12+4+6+26+14+10)

FPL GW16 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd
Haaland came in from the bench and scored a goal making him the obvious top-voted player in the FPL Gameweek 16 Captaincy poll. Salah finally hauled after a long time and this meant he is second in the captaincy poll this week, Kane has been consistently scoring goals and is the third most popular choice this week. KDB and Martinelli finish fourth and fifth in the polls this week to make up the top five going into the captaincy metrics.

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 16 Captain picks
Last week Haaland was second in individual stats after losing out to Wilson but this week he’s back on top with a whopping xG of 4.63 in the last 6 games which included 7 big chances and 24 shots inside the box. By no means are Kane’s numbers bad as well but he misses out to Haaland for a top spot in this segment of the captaincy metrics. Kane in the last six games has registered 21 shots inside the box with an xG of 3.41. Salah and Kane are tied for big chances and Salah narrowly loses to Kane in terms of xG(3.16). Martinelli is only fourth and KDB as expected is fifth considering he’s more of a creator than a goal threat which can be noted from the 19 chances he has created in the last six games.

Underlying Numbers of the Candidate’s Teams
Little separate Arsenal and Man City with Arsenal registering 0.08 xG more than Man City in the last six games. Liverpool have the overall most big chances(18) one more than that of Man City and Arsenal.
Spurs are a little behind compared to the other three teams and this is partly due to the injury issues they had in recent weeks, Spurs did look a much-improved side when Kulusevski made his return against Liverpool and the numbers will improve in GW16.

Fixture Difficulty of the candidate team in FPL GW16
Man City as expected have the best FPL GW16 fixture ranking with a 94% chance of at least scoring a goal and a 64% chance of scoring 2+ goals. Mo Salah and Liverpool too have an equally great fixture against Southampton at home with a 91% chance of scoring a goal and a 56% chance of scoring 2+ goals. Spurs and Arsenal are tied for both odds of scoring 1 goal(85%) and 2+ goals(36%), still great odds but just not close enough to the likes of Man City and Liverpool.

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 16 Captain Picks
Haaland closing to start means he dominates the models with a point projection of almost 10(9.4) which is quite high for a single gameweek(Generally projected points are a bit low). Kane is second with a 74% chance of anytime returns with a projected points tally of 8.1 narrowly edging KDB who has a projected points tally of 8.0 with anytime returns odds of 73%. Salah is second for points projection with a projected points tally of 8.3 for GW16. Martinelli as expected is last in the table for points projection.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 16 Captaincy metric analysis
Haaland tops the metrics this week with a CRF(Cumulative rank factor) of 5, just one short of the lowest possible CRF score which is 4. KDB finishes second with a CRF of 12. Salah and Kane are joint third with a CRF of 13, and Martinelli is last with a CRF of 14.
PS: The player with the lowest CRF is the best captain choice according to our captaincy metrics.
Haaland did play last week as a substitute and even scored a penalty in the closing stages of the game. He was also an unused substitute in the midweek Carabao cup victory against Chelsea. He also trained normally on Friday and everything indicates to a start for Man City. But anyways also look out for early team news which is always a possibility, however, there is also a possibility of the server crashing once again!
