GW28 sees both Raphinha (£6.5m) and Coutinho (£7.4m) have a double gameweek. Therefore, they are definitely big transfer targets and are popular picks for the wildcard. Are both great picks, or does one come out on top?

Despite Leeds’ poor form, Raphinha has still had 9 goals. He is 4th among midfielders for xA and 9th for xGI, and in a double gameweek he looks like a great pick. He also has the advantage of being on penalties.
We haven’t seen too much of Coutinho yet, but what we have seen is pretty promising. Overall, I would back Raphinha looking at his numbers, but it’s also worth looking at recent form.
In the last four gameweeks (Raphinha has had 5 games; Coutinho has had 4):
- Both have scored 1 goal
- Coutinho has also had 3 assists (2 FPL assists), whereas Raphinha hasn’t registered any
- Coutinho has had 10 goal attempts; Raphinha has had 6
- Both have had just 2 shots on target
- Raphinha has created 10 chances; Coutinho has created 7
- While Raphinha has created no big chances, Coutinho has created 2
- Raphinha has had 13 touches in the penalty area; Coutinho has had 8
Therefore, there are a mixed bag of figures.

Despite Leeds’ poorer defensive record, their attacking threat has been more promising. They have played one more game than Villa, but per game they still come out on top for all attacking stats shown in the table. Therefore, this does boost Raphinha’s potential.

Both have a very promising DGW28. Leicester have been a poor defensive team this season, so Raphinha looks like a great transfer target for this week. They then face a stronger defence in Villa, but this is still a very favourable double.
Villa also have a great double gameweek to target. In particular, the Leeds defence has been conceding a lot of goals in recent games. Though they can maybe bounce back with a new manager, it’s still a great fixture on paper for Villa and Coutinho.
In the longer term, I think Leeds’ fixtures look the most promising. Directly after their double, they have a game against Norwich at home. They then face a stronger Wolves side, but following this play Southampton and Watford. In comparison, Villa have a fairly tough run of games after their double.
Another great thing about both assets is that they definitely have a fixture in GW30, where there is likely to be a lot of blanks.

Raphinha vs Coutinho: The Verdict
It’s definitely clear that both are really promising picks on the wildcard to attack this upcoming double.
Out of the two, I personally prefer Raphinha’s numbers and would choose him. The downside is Leeds’ poor form, but hopefully they get that new manager bounce. Raphinha is the talisman of the Leeds team, and he also has the advantage of being on penalties.
However, I still think Coutinho is a solid pick who could definitely pay off. Both players also make a good case for the captain’s armband, so there is that to consider too.
