Now is the perfect time to get in players who can make an impact despite having low ownership. In this blog, we will look at the best differential picks ahead of FPL GW22.

FPL GW22 Differential Picks(<10% TSB)
Kevin De Bruyne vs Chelsea(H) £12.0, TSB:7.7%
De Bruyne has been battling hard with injuries this season, so far. However, in the last few weeks, he has shown glimpses of the player we all know him to be. Out of his 6 goal contributions(5 goals 1 assist) this season, the assist and three of the goals have come since his return from injury. In fact, since FPL GW17, KDB is the third-highest points scorer in FPL with 36.
Manchester City take on Chelsea in FPL GW22, a team that had a topsy-turvy festive period to say the least. The Blues have won only 2 of the last 7 matches, conceding 10 goals in the process. In contrast, Tuchel’s men had given away just 6 goals in 14 matches prior to that. Furthermore, during this slump, Chelsea have given away 57% of their chances through the center, the joint 4th worst in that time. This is exactly where KDB operates as we can see from the below graphic.
In the entirety of this season, the Blues have leaked 47% of their chances through the center, which also happens to be the joint fourth-worst in the league. The Belgian maestro would be looking forward to take on his former club and exploit their apparent weakness.
Kevin De Bruyne in numbers:
- 18 shots(league high), 18 key passes(league high) since Matchday 17
- 4 goal involvements(3G 1 A) in last 4 matches against Chelsea
- Four goals in all against the Blues, only against Arsenal has he scored more(5)

James Maddison vs Spurs(H) £6.9, TSB:9.8%
Update: Maddison’s game against Burnley is postponed due to Covid cases in Burnley camp and Leicester will have only a single gameweek facing Spurs. Maddison is still a great option considering the form he is in.
James Maddison has been one of the in-form players in recent weeks. The Englishman has found the back of the net 3 times in the last 6 matches. He also has registered 5 assists in that time. No player has scored more points(56) in FPL than Maddison since Gameweek 13, despite playing at least 3 matches lesser than his rivals. The midfielder also netted in the FA cup victory against Watford. In the last 10 matches across all competitions, he has 14 goal contributions(7 G 7 A).
In their first FPL GW22 fixture, the Foxes take on a reeling Burnley side. The Clarets last won a match back in GW 10. They will follow that up with a home game against Spurs, for whom this fixture is sandwiched between two massive London derbies. Therefore, it is safe to say that both of the games are favorable for Maddison and co.
Fun fact
Maddison had registered 3 goals and 3 assists in the 26 matches prior to the last 6, in which as stated earlier he has had 8 goal involvements.
Pro Tip: Leicester could potentially have two more double gameweeks coming up, as a result of which it is high time we bring in some of their assets into our teams. In the absence of Vardy, Maddison is the best bet.

Josh King vs Newcastle(A), Burnley(A) £5.8, TSB:7.9%
Update: Burnley’s game against Leicester City is postponed due to Covid cases in Burnley camp and Watford may not have a double in GW22 if the situation at Burnley does not improve.
King seems to be a constant feature in our differential segment these days. Well, it is because he has the numbers and the fixtures to suggest that he will eventually come good. The Norwegian has registered 5 goals and 4 assists so far this season. That sounds good until we look at the fact that he has had a whopping 12 big chances.
Of all teams having two fixtures this week, Watford’s pair of games on paper are the most favorable. In fact, the Hornets are the only team out of the eight teams to have both their matches with an FDR rating of 2. Newcastle have kept just one clean sheet all season and have conceded 42 goals, the second worst number in the league. Meanwhile, Burnley have won just one game all season.
Numbers game
- 28 shots, 23 of them in the box since Claudio Ranieri took charge, the best tally within the team
- 11 big chances since GW8, the third-highest in the league in that time

Lucas Moura vs Arsenal(H), Leicester(A) £6.5, TSB:5.7%
Spurs have been in fine form under their new manager. Under Conte, Spurs are unbeaten in eight matches, winning 5 and drawing the other three, One man who has been a key feature under the Italian is Lucas Moura. Before the managerial change, Moura was in and out of the team. However, since the change, the Brazilian has begun all but 2 of the matches and has also performed well.
In the regime of Antonio Conte, Lucas has registered 2 goals and 3 assists. His 5 goal contribution is only bettered by Son(7) among Spurs players in the league. Oddly enough, under Nuno the Brazilian had zero goal involvements. The change has brought about a change in fortune for the former PSG man.
Spurs have two relatively tough games on paper in FPL GW22. However, Arsenal are two men light in midfield in the absence of Partey and Elneny. Leicester, meanwhile, have whole host of defenders out injured. Furthermore, in the absence of Son, Moura is likely to partner Kane up front. Therefore, the chances of him getting attacking returns is high.

FPL GW22 Ultra Differential Picks (<1% TSB)
Manuel Lanzini vs Leeds(H) £5.8, TSB:0.9%
While it is smart to focus on double gameweek players, we can’t just ignore those that a favorable single GW. This is because as many as 12 teams have only one fixture. West Ham’s home game against Leeds is arguably the fixture to target among those playing once this week.
It is safe to say that Lanzini has slowly worked his way into David Moyes’ plans this season. Having begun none of the first 14 matches, he has started 6 of the last 7 matches. The Argentinian has 4 goals in his last 9 appearances. This includes a phenomenal two-goal performance against Crystal Palace in the last GW.
Lanzini scored only 3 points fewer than GW21 hero Bowen(21). This is largely down to the fact that he played deeper to fill in for Tomas Soucek. However, with the Czech international potentially returning to the eleven, Lanzini is likely to deployed in his favorite number 10 position.
In the meantime, let us take a look at some numbers for Leeds. Bielsa’s men have the third-worst defense in the league in terms of goals conceded. On top of that, they have allowed a league-high 49% of their chances through the center. As we can see from the above graphic, that is exactly where Lanzini operates.
Last time out
Lanzini scored the opening goal in West Ham’s 2-0 win the last time these two teams met. Oddly enough, that was just a week back, when the two met in the FA cup.

Ademola Lookman vs Burnley(A), Spurs(H) £6.0, TSB:0.8%
Update: Lookman’s game against Burnley is postponed due to Covid cases in Burnley camp and Leicester will have only a single gameweek facing Spurs.
Ademola Lookman becomes our second player from Leicester City in our list. As mentioned earlier, Brendan Rodgers’ men do have a good pair of games. One player who has caught the eye in recent weeks is Ademola Lookman. The youngster has scored 3 goals in his 6 matches, two of which have come in the last two- against Manchester City and Liverpool.
Leicester have been hit hard by injuries this season. Most of their defenders are still out injured. Now, Jamie Vardy will also miss the next few games. Lookman has been filling in well for the absentees and will look to continue that form against Burnely and Spurs. Sean Dyche’s men have given away a league-high 34% of the chances down their left. It is the position in which Lookman largely positions himself in.
Meanwhile, the last time the youngster faced Spurs( while playing for Fulham), he got an assist in a 1-1 draw. Furthermore, the young Englishman also assisted two of the four in the Foxes’ 4-1 win over Watford in the FA cup last week.
