With Fantasy Premier League relaunch, FPL managers started to construct their initial drafts before settling the Final one when the new season kicks off on 13th August. The categorization of players with respect to the budget of £100m is vital to compromise your plans. Players are generally grouped as Premium – Mid-Priced & Budget and with these constraints in mind, listed below are our best FPL premium defenders for the upcoming season 2021/2022 [ £6.0m and above ]
FPL Premium Defenders Analysis for the 2021/22 Season
1. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5)
Fixtures: nor(A) – BUR(H) – CHE(H) – lee(A) – CRY(H) – bre(A)
TAA is one of the FPL defenders who always come to our mind when the term ” FPL Premium Defender” emerges as he is one of the best assets to own for the past 2-3 Seasons.
Trent had finished the season outstandingly scoring 160 points as he boasted impressive attacking returns with 4 goals and 13 assists (behind only KDB who had 20) which put him 2nd best defender after his teammate Andrew Robertson (£7.0) who scored 161 points. No defender had goal attempts more than TAA (55) as he also ranked 2nd in touches in the final third of the opponents as well as Penalty touches (84).
The English RB also sit top for Expected Assists xA (7.5) and Expected Goal Involvement xGI (10.09) which elaborates the critical role for Arnold in terms of playmaking and with the return of Virgil Van Dijk (£6.5) and the new signing of Ibrahima Konate (£5.5) will be a great factor for Liverpool defensive solidarity
2. Andrew Robertson (£7.0)
Fixtures : nor(A) – BUR(H) – CHE(H) – lee(A) – CRY(H) – bre(A)
Robertson on the other flank is Liverpool’s raiding Left-back who sit Top FPL defender scoring 161 Points with 12 Clean sheets and providing 7 assists. He also ranked 1st for touches in the final third of the opponents as well as Penalty touches (99)
Robbo came second for the xGi (7.39) behind his teammate Alexander-Arnold where the Scotland Left Back distribution is crystal clear with 294 crosses – Only TAA had more crosses 297 –
As we stated earlier, The VVD comeback and the potential partnership with Konate should positively affect the whole team structure where Fabinho and Henderson will dominate the midfield which provides Both TAA and Robertson more freedom
Liverpool Fixtures
Liverpool are facing the 3 promoted teams in their first 8 matches, Anyone doubling up on both 👀 ?
3. Ben Chilwell (£6.0)
Despite having Only 2290 mins of playing ( 25 matches on average) only, Ben Chilwell managed to finish the season in the top 6 scoring defenders with 139 points scoring 3 Goals and providing 5 assists.
The attacking involvement of the English left is clear whenever he starts. Only Marcos Alonso and Joao Cancelo ” Who averaged played the same number of matches ” had Mins per penalty touch more than Chilwell (34.2 ) which pushed him to be ranked 6th for xG among all the defenders ( 2.47 ).
The doubt to have Chilwell from GW1 emerges from the tough start for Chelsea whom will be facing: Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham away from home before hosting the Premier League champions Man City in GW6, but definitely, he is a strong GW1 punt when he faces Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea Fixtures
4. Ruben Dias (£6.0)
The great and clear impact Ruben Dias had on Man City’s defensive line was definitely a factor for him to be named men’s footballer of the year by the Football Writer’s Association in May. He was also named in the Professional Footballers Association’s (PFA) Premier League Team Of The Year.
Indeed, João Cancelo (£6.0) has more attacking potential, however, The Portuguese Center is the most nailed defender for Pep Guardiola’s Backline who kept the most clean sheets ( 17 ) scoring 1 Goal. Dias had 14 goal attempts during the entire season, ALL were inside the box and 10 of them were headed attempts which could make him a major threat.
Man City Fixtures
Man City will start their title defending against Tottenham away, hosting Arsenal at GW3 and then travel to King power to face Leicester in GW4 and then two consecutive tough fixtures against Chelsea and Liverpool all away from Etihad
Buy or Hold on Dias?
