Welcome to our FPL GW37 Scout Picks blog! With only 2 GWs left to make up ground in mini-leagues and climb up the overall rankings, it’s time to go big or go home!
I can confirm that in FPL GW36, the AAFPL Scout Picks team went BIG – scoring a huge 62 points compared to the Official Scout’s score of just 44. That score makes it 21.5-14.5 to us against the official FPL scout for the season to this point…

FPL GW37 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

At this point we seem to be in a constant rotation of a small number of goalkeepers – with Sels, Pickford and Raya all rotating in and out for the AAFPL Scout Picks team in recent GWs – this week it is the turn of Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez (5.0m). With 2 back-to-back clean sheets in GW35 and GW36, he is one of the most in-form ‘keepers in the league. Perhaps even more impressive is that those two key clean sheets came against opposition that are still fighting for a European spot in Fulham and Bournemouth…
The Villains in fact have 3 clean sheets in their last 5 matches, with their other one coming against Southampton in FPL GW32. Emery’s side have been on an exceptional run in the last 10 games, losing just 2 and winning the other 8! ‘Europe’, as Emery repeated in a recent press conference, is the key word for the West Midlands side – they are a side who still have a lot to play for at this late stage, and that means they are a team to target!

Aston Villa will be facing Spurs in FPL GW37, a side who currently sit in 17th position in the league, with a points total (going into the final two GWs of the season) that would, in a normal season, probably get you relegated (40 points is often seen as the magic number when it comes to the relegation battle). Spurs have won just 1 of their last 10 matches (against Southampton, so does it even really count?) and have lost 4 of their last 5 matches in the league – scoring 5 goals across that stretch. They will likely be firmly focused on their upcoming Europa League final, and will give little thought or importance to this game, so a Villa defender / keeper is a safe bet…

FPL GW37 Scout Picks – Defenders

Our back three for FPL GW37 is made up of Munoz (5.2m), Mykolenko (4.4m) and Gvardiol (6.5m)…
Munoz is essential at this point. 10 goal involvements and 11 clean sheets for the season is ridiculous, and the crazy thing is – he could’ve had even more! Against Spurs he had one assist chalked off due to a tight off-side call, and a similar thing happened against Man City in FPL GW32 (I’m sure there have been other occasions but those are the two that spring to mind). Furthermore, according to his underlying data, he should’ve bagged at least one more goal and one more assist this season…

Palace go into FPL GW37 off the back of an impressive performance against Spurs – a game in which they dominated throughout, creating over 3xG and conceding just 0.68xG across the 90′. Munoz created 3 chances and took 3 shots in that game, highlighting his attacking potential. That game against Spurs was no fluke though, in FPL GW35 they created over 2xG against Nottingham Forest and again limited the opposition team to just over 0.6xG. Palace have really grown into this season and are carrying a fair bit of momentum – I back them to get the result over Wolves in FPL GW37, who have very little to play for at this point….
Next up is Everton’s Mykolenko. The Evertonian defender will be playing his final ever game at Goodison park this weekend, with Everton set to move into their new stadium on the docks at the end of the season. The atmosphere for this final EVER game at the Toffees’ iconic stadium will be out of this world, so regardless of who Everton are playing – I’d be backing them. What makes Everton assets even more appealing is that their opponent this weekend is bottom of the table (but no longer the joint-worst side in Premier League history) Southampton!

The Saints, to their credit, managed to hold Man City to a 0-0 draw in FPL GW36, but I think they will struggle to do the same when they travel to Liverpool this weekend. Everton are in decent form, after coming back from 1-0 down to win 1-3 away at Fulham last weekend. They’ve had a tough fixture run of late and thus their form has been, lets say questionable, so they’ll be looking to build on their impressive victory over Fulham with another one against Southampton this time around. The crowd and players are going to be up for this one, so we’re backing Everton this weekend!
Completing the backline we have Gvardiol! The Croatian defender retains his place in the team after producing back-to-back Clean Sheets in the league. In fact that’s 3 CS in his last 4 premier league matches! As mentioned in last weeks article, Gvardiol has been shifted to centre back of late, in order to accommodate some more traditional full-backs who hug the touchline and provide width for the team. This has rendered City much more solid, as can be seen in their recent run of victories and clean sheets!

The Citizens haven’t lost a game since FPL GW28 and go into this fixture against Bournemouth having conceded just 1 goal in their last 4 games. Bournemouth admittedly do still have something to play for, as they are clearly still in contention for one of the many European places on offer to mid-table sides this season, though their recent form suggests that their chances are rapidly diminishing… They’ve picked up just 2 wins in their last 10 games, and have scored just 11 goals across those fixtures. City also still have a lot to play for though, as Champions league is not yet confirmed for the Manchester side – so both teams will be giving it 100% in this game (but we think City will come out on top).

FPL GW37 Scout Picks – Midfielders

Some very familiar faces in our midfield this week! Bowen (7.7m), Rogers (5.7m), Mbeumo (8.3m) and KDB (9.6m) make up our midfield quartet for FPL GW37!
Bowen retains his place in the team after impressing yet again by scoring against Manchester United in FPL GW36. That makes it 4 goal involvements in his last 3 premier league fixtures, with the English winger scoring in back-to-back games and picking up 2 assists against Brighton in FPL GW34. This weekend the Hammers face an out of sorts Forest side that have picked up just 1 win in their last 6 matches in the league.

Bowen is now on a decent tally of 11 goals and 7 assists for the season, with his underlying numbers backing up these stats. Though Potter has chopped and changed both the system and the players during his tenure thus far at West Ham, he seems to have finally settled on a back 3 system with two strikers (of which Bowen is one). The players are seemingly starting to get to grips with his style of play and tactics, and Bowen is certainly thriving. Forest are in poor form, West Ham have nothing to lose, and Bowen’s in a bit of a purple patch – what’s not to love!
Next up is our second Aston Villa player – Morgan Rogers! The QEBE (quasi-essential-budget-enabler) returns to the team this week, with Villa in fine form and facing Spurs in FPL GW37. Rogers has managed to pick up 3 assists across his last 5 Premier League matches, as well as collecting some CS points for his troubles! While Asensio and Rashford often get all of the attention from FPL managers, Rogers is often forgotten or over-looked due to his slightly worse underlying data (and perhaps because he’s not a new signing). At this point of the season minutes are so important, and Rogers, unlike Rashford (I know he’s injured but the point still stands) and Asensio, is nailed.

His underlying numbers are still great, with the english midfielder averaging around 0.5xGI/90 over the course of this season in the league. 8 goals and 9 assists is a pretty solid return for a player who was priced at just 5.0m at the start of the season! Spurs, as mentioned, are in pretty awful form, have nothing to play for, and will be distracted by their upcoming Europa League final against United – whereas Villa have everything to play for and no other competitions to focus on – I know who I’m backing!
Mbeumo and KDB also both retain their places in the team this week, with the former delivering for us in FPL GW36, and the latter not so much… Mbeumo picked up one assist against Ipswich last weekend, taking him to 27 goal involvements for the season (18G/9A). You read that right, Brentford’s talisman is averaging a goal involvement every 119 minutes in the league this season! He’s a star, and a crucial FPL asset too! Brentford face Fulham this weekend in what could be a ‘European football decider’. Brentford are in better form and currently sit higher in the table, so we’re backing Mbeumo to do the business again for us in FPL GW37!
KDB on the other hand produced a pretty lackluster return of just 3 points against bottom-of-the-table-one-of-the-worst-sides-ever Southampton in FPL GW36. That’s not to say he didn’t try though, as he came away from that match with 1.18xGI. He was clearly City’s best player in that game, taking 5 shots and creating 4 chances for his teammates, but it was not enough, and Pep’s side were held to a draw.

De Bruyne’s numbers are still stratospheric, and with Haaland back in the team, expect their telepathic link up play to kick in again pretty soon… It’s worth mentioning that KDB may well be subjected to Pep roulette, but as he’s started all 6 of City’s last league games, and he’s leaving at the end of the season so only has 2 league games left in a City shirt, he’ll definitely – probably – maybe start… right?

FPL GW37 Scout Picks – Forwards

Beto (4.8m), Watkins (9.0m) and Marmoush (7.5m) complete the team for FPL GW37!
What’s this? An Aston Villa AND a Manchester City triple up? Let me explain. The Villa trio is pretty self explanatory – Spurs bad, Villa good. The City one is perhaps slightly more confusing, but still makes sense I promise… City still have so much to play for in the league, and are really starting to come back into form, having not lost since FPL GW28 and won 4 of their last 5 games. Bournemouth will be a test, as they are a team that likes to cause chaos, and often do particularly well against the ‘bigger sides’, but they are not in great form and arguably have less to play for than City. It’s a bit of a gamble, but we’re backing City based on their recent form and their need to pick up points in order to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Watkins as mentioned completes the Villa triple up, and goes into FPL GW37 in decent form having scored Villa’s only goal in their 1-0 win against Bournemouth in FPL GW36. According to Fantasy Football Hub’s points prediction tool, Watkins is expected to deliver the most points of any FPL forward in FGW37. Spurs have conceded 14 goals in their last 5 premier league matches including 5 against Liverpool and 4 against Wolves. They are evidently a team to target, so that’s exactly what we’re doing!
Marmoush over Haaland is perhaps a bit rogue, but stick with us! Haaland did not look 100% fit against Southampton, taking just 1 shot over the course of the 90′. Marmoush on the other hand took 2 shots despite only being subbed on in the 84th minute. The Egyptian prince looked far sharper than his strike partner in his cameo from the bench, so will have put himself in contention to start this game for sure. Marmoush’s versatility allows him to be deployed not only as a central striker, but also as a winger or even as an attacking midfielder, which adds to his chance of getting some minutes against Bournemouth in FPL GW37! It’s a risk, but one that we’re willing to take considering how poor Haaland looked in FPL GW36…

Finally we have Beto. We thought it best to go for at least one Everton attacker this weekend, due to their favourable fixture and unique circumstances (as outlined in the section on Mykolenko). I think Beto is by far the best option, as it’s unclear who may or may not start in the attacking midfield / winger spots. Beto’s numbers are decent, averaging 0.54xG/90 over the course of the season and scoring 8 goals in the process. His numbers are not elite, but they’re solid. I think Everton players are great differentials this weekend due to the circumstances, so if you’ve got a spare transfer, Beto (or a midfielder if you’re feeling particularly crazy) could be the move!
