FPL GW8 Tips – Key Tips & Questions Answered
1. Salah, Palmer & Saka dilemma
Many managers will be tossing up who is the best asset out of these three stars of the league and also if their team has capacity to include two or potentially three of them.
Firstly, Haaland should be a priority above all of these midfielders.
Even though he blanked in two fixtures on the bounce, the easy fixture schedule and the return of Kevin De Bruyne cannot be emphasised enough. Don’t forget this is a man who scored 10 goals in the first 5 fixtures of the season and is on penalties while being the spearhead for the best attacking team in the competition.
Salah, Palmer & Saka are also all on penalty duties. Palmer & Saka have some set piece duties (with Palmer being quite good at free kick shooting).
Salah’s extra £2m above the other two is very important as this could turn a budget enabler in to a mid-priced hero in your lineup.
Saka is leading all the creative stat leaderboards with the most assists (7), most chances created (27) and most big chances created (12). This is in part due to Arsenal’s set piece prowess and Saka taking a share of corner and indirect free kick duties.
Palmer’s 6 goals and 5 assists in his free-roaming attacking midfield role has been impressive, but slightly fortunate due to some over performance in scoring from his teammates.
If you had to choose your premiums to hold for the whole season, I would have Haaland & Palmer be the core of my team. Transferring Palmer to Saka & Salah at times based on fixture runs though could provide great upside.

2. International Break Injuries
We hope everyone has enjoyed their second break from FPL in as many months as international games were played out across the globe.
You may be keeping an eye on your assets to see if they are scoring, but I would not put any weight behind these results at all. Very rarely does international football performance translate to club form and performance.
However, keeping an eye on injuries to key players is something that is useful to keep an eye on during this break.
Martin Ødegaard is still set to be out for another two weeks on the sidelines are sustaining an ankle injury in this season’s first international break. His teammate Bukayo Saka also picked up an injury on international duty after leaving the field in some discomfort last week.
The latest news is that it was a minor issue and Saka is a good chance to be fit for Gameweek 8. Keep an eye on Arteta’s press conference for the latest news.
Due to this combination of injuries, Havertz could be deployed in midfield rather than striker. Saka has had less creative assistance on the right side with Odegaard and Ben White missing through injury. The defence could see a slight upgrade as the Arsenal captain returns as the engine room in midfield.
Something to keep an eye on and consider in transfer and wildcard plans.

3. Manchester City Fixtures
Manchester City’s next five fixtures read as WOL(A), SOU(H), BOU(A), BHA(A), TOT(H).
These fixtures stylistically are great for Haaland and Manchester City as a whole. These teams like to press and are unlikely to sit as deep as some other sides in the league would against the champions.
The next question is how many Manchester City assets you should own for this run.
The next best options would be Gvardiol, Foden & De Bruyne. Gvardiol has the attacking prowess and positioning to return large hauls, but has the downside of Rodri’s absence causing defensive instability and the occasional benching.
Foden is the best secondary attacking asset at £9.2m and as last season’s player of the season, he has the pedigree to produce a big haul at any moment.
De Bruyne is definitely the most risky and differential pick of the bunch as his injury issues and age could see early substitutions and some benchings as City balance all of their upcoming competitions.
I am comfortable with only Haaland for the fixture run, but Gvardiol and Foden could potentially provide great value.

4. Best Budget Enablers – Dibling & Andersen
As managers look to squeeze every premium and semi-premium player into their team, there will be a focus on the best players at budget prices.
Luckily for us, two in particular have surfaced and provide great value for their bargain price.
Tyler Dibling at £4.6 is a potential up and coming star of the premier league. At only 18 years old, he has been a bright spot in a lacklustre Southampton team.
He has started the last four fixtures and has a goal to his name in that time.
Joachim Andersen dropped to £4.3m last night to further solidify his budget status. Andersen is a starter in a reasonably defensively solid Fulham team.
Big Chances Conceded in Premier League this season:
- Fulham- 9
- Nottingham Forest- 12
- Liverpool- 12
- Spurs- 12
- Villa- 13
- Arsenal- 13
- Man City- 14
- Chelsea- 14

He notched up 5 attacking returns for Crystal Palace last season and 4 attacking returns in the 21/22 season.
This creativity and goal threat also leads to greater bonus point potential.
These two would be my locked in enablers on wildcard to allow for more money to be spent on big hitters.
