As we head into Gameweek 9, it’s safe to say last week threw up some unexpected surprises that left many FPL managers scrambling. Arsenal’s shock defeat at the hands of Bournemouth had ripple effects, especially for those backing the Gunners’ assets. Meanwhile, the FPL machine Erling Haaland has now notched a hat-trick of blanks, causing growing frustration for those relying on his usual goal-scoring consistency. But perhaps the biggest shock was Everton’s £4.0m defender being the highest scorer of the week—a result almost no one saw coming.
If your team suffered last week, don’t panic! Gameweek 8 was an anomaly, not the norm, and it’s important to keep the bigger picture in mind as we plan for the season ahead. With fixture swings, players returning from injury, and new form emerging, this is the perfect time to recalibrate, regroup, and resurge with confidence. The FPL marathon continues!
So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL Gameweek 9 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY
There’s not much to say about Haaland—he’s a lock in every serious manager’s lineup. If you’re brave enough to go without him, credit to you, especially with a favorable home fixture against Southampton’s leaky defense. Still, it’s not a gamble I’d recommend taking.
Yoane Wissa (£5.9m) – FWD, Brentford – 2.5% TSB
The Brentford talisman is back from injury just in time. Brentford has amazing fixtures in the medium term.
Before he got injured in GW4, among forwards Wissa was ranked:
- 2nd for FPL points
- 2nd for BPS
- 2nd for Bonus
- 2nd for Goals
- 2nd for Goal Involvements
- 3rd for xPts
- 3rd for xG
- 3rd for xGI
His GW9 opponents Ipswich are ranked
- 20th for Big Chances conceded
- 20th for xGC
- 20th for xCS
- 19th for NPxGC
I suggest prioritizing Wissa over any other buy this GW.

Phil Foden (£9.2m) – MID, Man City – 7.1% TSB
Man City plays a team who are ranked
- 20th for NPxGC
- 19th for xGC
- 19th for Goals Conceded
- 18th for Shots Conceded
- 18th for SiB Conceded
- 18th for Big Chances Conceded
- 17th for SoT Conceded
- 17th for xCS
- 0 Clean Sheets
If you already have Haaland or can’t afford the Norwegian, Foden is your best route into the City attack. He already returned last week despite only coming on as a substitute. Foden is also the best short-term replacement of Saka. With Doku and Grealish injured, Foden is expected to start this week.

Dom Solanke (£7.7m) – FWD, Spurs – 13.3% TSB
Amongst teams, Spurs ranks
- 1st for xG
- 1st for NPxG
- 1st for Shots in the Box
- 2nd for Shots
- 2nd for Shots on Target
- 3rd for Big Chances
Yet Solanke is the second most sold unflagged forward after Havertz. People might be getting frustrated by his blank last week but that came after a hattrick of returns.
Since his return in GW4, among FWDs Solanke is ranked
- 2nd for Big Chances
- 2nd for xG
- 2nd for xGI
- 2nd for xPts
Spurs have a decent fixture run in the short term
Hence, Solanke could be worth the patience of managers willing to HOLD him.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.1m) – DEF, Liverpool – 30.2% TSB
Trent is the second most sold unflagged defender after Gabriel, despite being the highest scoring defender so far.
Arsenal will be without Saka and Ødegaard in their attack thus increasing Liverpool’s chances of a clean sheet.
Without Saliba and possibly Timber and Calafiori, Arsenal’s defence also will definitely be weak enabling TAA greater chance to haul at the opposite end of the pitch.
Therefore, I would recommend holding and definitely starting Trent.

FPL Gameweek 9 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL
Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) – MID, Arsenal – 26.2% TSB
Saka is the most transferred-out player this week, and it’s easy to see why.
He missed Arsenal’s last two games in PL and UCL because of his hamstring injury and there remains doubts over his availability for the Liverpool game. Even if he plays, Liverpool has one of the best defences in the league.
Let us not forget Arsenal’s tricky fixtures in the short term.
Therefore, I suggest selling Saka.

William Saliba (£6.0m) – DEF, Arsenal – 25.6% TSB
Saliba is the 2nd most transferred out player this week and I support the thought process of the sellers.
- Suspended for this week
- Not the best fixtures in the medium-term
- Arsenal has only 1 Clean Sheet in the last 5 PL games conceding against teams like Bournemouth, Southampton, and Leicester
Hence, I recommend selling Saliba.
