Best Premium FPL Forwards Analysis Ahead Of 2024/25 Season

Carrying their Legacy forward (no pun intended) is the New Kid on the Block – The Most Expensive Player in FPL History – Erling Haaland!!

Best Premium FPL Forwards Analysis

There are only 3 Forwards classified under this Category, if you include Ollie Watkins and Alexander Isak as Premium FPL forwards. We will be going through each of these 3 in detail as you could actually start with all 3 in FPL this season.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City – 15 Million)

Fixtures:

Haaland Stats from Last Season:

• Played: 31 Games (2 Subs) and 2556 Minutes
• Goals: 27 from an xG of 29.57
• Assists: 8 from an xA of 2.18
• FPL Points: 217

Pros:

• The Double Golden Boot Winner from the last 2 seasons has also got the most xG among all players in FPL the last 2 seasons. 
• The Talisman of Man City and also nailed on for penalties. Very good for bonus as well.
• Has had a full pre-season and unlike most Premium players (bar Son, Salah & Isak) he has had a decent break in the summer. Remember Pep likes his players to have rhythm. 
• No Alvarez for competition at the beginning of the season. Alvarez has had a very draining summer with participation in the Copa America and Paris Olympics.
• Has already scored 5 times in Preseason to be the most in-form player during Preseason.
• His current ownership is below 40 % which is unheard of, which means Captaining him in Gameweek 2 will give your team a major rank boost, if he does well. Although I do expect that ownership to rise in the last week.

Cons:

• His price tag at 15 million is what has put many people off as they can create a much more balanced team with the other premiums like Saka, Palmer, Son, and Watkins alongside Salah.
• 2 tough games with Arsenal & Newcastle in the 1^st 6 Gameweeks have put a few people off, but I would not worry about the fixtures too much, especially for Man City Assets.
• A slight injury concern with some niggling muscle injuries which was highlighted by Pep, but I would not worry too much about this.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle United – 8.5 Million)

Fixtures:

Isak Stats from Last Season:

• Played: 30 Games (3 Subs) and 2265 Minutes
• Goals: 21 from an xG of 20.22
• Assists: 4 from an xA of 2.68
• FPL Points: 172

Pros:

• The Most Dangerous and Clinical Striker in front of the goal, after Haaland. Isak had staggering numbers of 1.67 shots on Target per 90, an xGI of 0.8 per 90. He even created 1.07 chances per 90. An overall solid pick with Penalties and good bonus potential as well.
• Probably the best fixture to begin the season with Southampton at home and perhaps the best Captaincy option that week. Newcastle also have some solid attacking fixtures in the 1^st 5 Gameweeks.
• In the FPL Twitter community, many are going with Haaland and Isak, some are going with Watkins and Isak, few are going with all these 3 up top. Isak is the common striker in all these drafts, which shows how much his popularity is at the start of the season.
• No European competitions this season for Newcastle and that is when they have functioned the best these last 2 seasons. Also no competition from Callum Wilson who is injured at the start of the season. Expect Isak to have a brilliant season and hopefully breach the 25-goal mark in the league.
• Another player who is completely fresh and has had a full pre-season under his belt.

Cons:

• Not the best injury record. Tends to pick up niggling injuries at various points of the season.
• Not on penalties, when Callum Wilson is on the pitch.

Pre-Season Form:

Isak – ⚽⚽⚽A (Further Read: Pre-Season Summary of All 20 Premier League Teams)

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa – 9 Million)

Fixtures:

Watkins Stats from Last Season:

• Played: 37 Games and 3321 Minutes
• Goals: 19 from an xG of 16.74
• Assists: 18 from and xA of 4.02
• FPL Points: 228

Pros

• Perhaps the most all-round striker in the League with a high goal threat and great chance creation numbers. 1.26 Chances created per 90 and 1.32 Shots on Target per 90. 
• Villa’s amazing fixtures from Gameweek 3-6.
• The Talisman of the Team, everything attack wise will go through Watkins.
• Brilliant for Bonus because of his all-round display for his team alongside scoring Goals.

Cons:

• Unlike Haaland and Isak, Watkins is not nailed on for penalties. McGinn & Tielemans seem to be ahead of Watkins for penalties.
• Faces Arsenal and West Ham in the 1^st 2 Gameweeks with Lopetegui known for his defense-first approach and Arsenal the best defense in the League. Better to start with another Forward and then jump on to Watkins in Gameweek 3.
• Got 18 Assists from an xA of 4.02, something that will definitely not happen this season.
• The impact of Champions League football will surely take its toll on the inexperienced Villa squad this season (something which we saw hamper Newcastle last season)

Pre-Season form:

Watkins did not feature in the last friendly vs Dortmund- Completely not featuring in the pre-season at all which puts his GW1 starting spot at risk. He has returned to training though on Tuesday.
