Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams | 2024/25 FPL Season

Most managers tend to restrict their FPL picks to the top 6 teams in the premier league, namely Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, and don’t venture outside of the top 6. Understandably so, many are most familiar with the top teams and they do tend to historically have the best performers, but to go beyond the average performance one needs to broaden their horizon, i.e. get the best FPL picks outside the Top 6 before everyone else. This article will help you do just that. We will look at the Best FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams – What they have to offer and who you should consider in your team.

Aston Villa

First six fixtures: West Ham(A), Arsenal(H), Leicester(A), Everton(H), Wolves(H), and Ipswich(A).

Ollie Watkins (£9.0m)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Watkins

The first player on the list is England’s Euros semi-final hero, Ollie Watkins. Watkins is coming off a stellar season where in 3,970 minutes he scored 24 goals and set up a further 13 in all competitions. In the premier league alone, he scored 19 and provided 13 assists. He did overperform on his expected numbers on both fronts with his xG being 16.8 and his xAG being 7.3, but even if he was closer to his actual expected numbers he would have still had a spectacular season. He created 11 Big Chances last season (equal to Phil Foden), averaged 1.31 shots on target per 90 and 1.26 key passes per 90.

Last season, Watkins scored 228 points, making him the highest-scoring forward and the third-highest-scoring player behind Phil Foden and Cole Palmer. Despite being 9.0 million, Watkins is the first forward on my team sheet (even ahead of a certain Norwegian!). With David Luiz leaving for Juventus, Watkins could also be on penalty duties, while being one of the players in this Villa team who are rarely taken off playing 87 minutes on average per game. A genuine captaincy option who can not only score but also create!

Leon Bailey (£6.5)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Leon Bailey

The next player from Aston Villa is another player who had a really good 2023/24. Leon Bailey scored 10 goals and assisted a further 11 in just 2075 minutes. He also created 12 Big Chances with an xA of 7.17 and an xG of 6.29. He averaged 0.48 shots on target per 90, 2.26 key passes per 90, 2.48 successful dribbles per 90, and 1.13 fouls drawn per 90, which makes him a bonus magnet too. In 153 minutes in pre-season at the time of writing, Bailey has already scored and assisted once each. With Moussa Diaby gone and Aston Villa yet to sign a replacement, Leon Bailey can be a great differential early in the season.

Morgan Rogers (£5.0)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Rogers

The last player from Aston Villa is Morgan Rogers, who currently has a higher ownership than Leon Bailey, his probable winger counterpart this season, and for a good reason. The 22-year-old finished last season scoring 3 goals and getting one assist at the back end of the season to help Aston Villa finish in the top 4. He has now carried that form into the pre-season, scoring 3 goals and getting an assist in just 153 minutes played. At just 5 million and an ownership of just 6.7%, Morgan Rogers can not only be a great budget buy but also a great differential.

Bournemouth

First six fixtures: Nottingham Forrest (A), Newcastle United (H), Everton (A), Chelsea (H), Liverpool (A) and Southampton (H).

Dominic Solanke (£7.5m)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Solanke

Another English striker who had a very prolific season was ex-Liverpool striker, Dominic Solanke. In 37 starts last season, Solanke scored 19 times and provided three assists. His xG for last season was 19.64 with an xA of 2.11. He averaged 2.87 shots per 90, with 0.95 being on target. While Bournemouth may not have the best start to the season, if Dominic Solanke can continue his form from last season, he could again be one of the best FPL picks outside of the top 6.

Honourable mentions: Justin Kluivert

Brentford

First six fixtures: Crystal Palace (H), Liverpool (A), Southampton (H), Manchester City(A), Tottenham(A) and West Ham(H).

Bryan Mbeumo (£7.0m)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Mbeumo

One of the FPL cult heroes of last season, Bryan Mbeumo can be one of the best FPL picks outside of the top 6 once again. With Brentford announcing last season that Ivan Toney will depart in the summer, Mbeumo can continue playing the role he played so brilliantly last season when Toney was banned. In 22 starts (1,957 minutes), Mbeumo scored 9 goals and assisted a further 7 while leading the line. He averaged 2.3 shots per 90, created 6 big chances, 1.47 key passes per 90, 1.2 successful dribbles per 90 while drawing 1.9 fouls per 90. In the pre-season friendlies, Mbeumo has started 2 out of 3 games, playing on the wings. He, in the 191 minutes he has played at the time of writing, has already scored twice. He could also be on penalties with Toney leaving. Despite scoring 5.1 points per 90 last season, Mbeumo is only 7.1% owned and if he continues playing as a forward, he is also an out-of-position player who can be a true gem again this season.

Yoanne Wissa (£6.0m)

While it still remains to be seen who Thomas Frank decides to go with Yoanne Wissa or Thiago, the new signing for Brentford touted as Toney’s replacement, as one of the forwards, it will be extremely disappointing for Wissa to miss out. In 2,488 minutes played last season, Wissa scored 12 times (xG of 10.54) and assisted a further 4 times (xA of 1.82). He averaged 2.42 shots per 90, 1.08 key passes per 90 and drew 1.84 fouls to him per 90. In the pre-season friendlies, Wissa has played 201 minutes at the time of writing, playing twice as a forward and once as a left winger. In these 201 minutes, Wissa has scored once.

Honorable mentions: Thiago(Currently injured), Rico Henry

Brighton

First Six Fixtures: Everton (A), Man Utd (H), Arsenal (A), Ipswich (H), Forrest (H) and Chelsea (A).

Joao Pedro (£5.5m)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Joao Pedro

Joao Pedro started last season as one of the best FPL picks outside of top 6 due to his low price and his penalty duties. In 2,037 minutes, Joao Pedro scored 9 times (xG of 12.01) and assisted a further 3 times (xA of 4.64). He averaged 2.98 shots per 90 with 0.91 of them being on target. He also made 1.42 key passes per 90 and played 1.67 passes directly into the penalty box, while completing 1.89 successful dribbles per 90. While he has yet to feature in a pre-season game, he has returned to training and could be fit in time for the start of the season.

Valentin Barco (£4.0m)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Barco

The 20-year-old Argentinian is the first defender to feature on this list of the best FPL picks outside of top 6. The left-back is set to start the season as Pervis Estupinian is injured and could miss the start of Seagulls’ season. Barco has only played 307 minutes in the Premier League, however, he was seen taking set-pieces for Brighton now that Solly March is also not available for Brighton. At just 4.0 million, Barco can be a good rotating option in your defence, opening your funds for other areas.

If you are looking for a Budget rotation at just 9.0 million- Barco+ Rogers can be a great combination as they rotate well for the first 9 games as seen below. (Further Read: Best FPL Rotational Pairs and Combinations for the 2024/25 season)

Yankuba Minteh (£5.5m)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Minteh

The last Brighton player is a winger who has recently signed with the club. The 20-year-old has moved from Feyenoord Rotterdam to Brighton and Hove Albion this season. Minteh could potentially start the season for Brighton with concerns over Solly March’s fitness. Last season, in 1456 minutes, Minteh scored 10 goals (xG of 9.8) and provided 5 assists (xA of 4.3). He also averaged 3.46 shots per 90, 1.48 shots on target per 90, 1.67 key passes per 90 and 3.65 successful dribbles per 90. In 90 minutes in 2 friendlies for Brighton in the ongoing pre-season, Minteh has already scored 2 goals. At just 5.5 million and an ownership of less than 1%, Minteh could be a great hidden gem this season.

Crystal Palace

First six fixtures: Brentford(A), West Ham(H), Chelsea(A), Leicester(H), Man Utd(H), and Everton(A).

Eberechi Eze (£7.0m)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Eze

The first Crystal Palace player on the list and most probably the creative force they rely on this season, is Eberechi Eze. In 2055 minutes last season, Eze managed 11 goals and 4 assists with one of them coming from a penalty. He averages almost 3.6 shots per 90, with 1.45 of them being on target. He averaged more shots on target than Mateta last season with the striker averaging 0.58 shots on target per 90. He also averages 3.02 dribbles per 90, can score from long range and is also on set pieces, making him a bargain for 7 million.

Further Read: Best FPL Budget Forwards (£4.5 – £5.5 Million) | 24/25 FPL Season

Daichi Kamada (£5.5)

The next Crystal Palace player is Daichi Kamada, the player signed to replace the departed Micheal Olise. Kamada has played under Oliver Glasner before in 2022/23 and excelled in the midfield for Eintracht Frankfurt. In 2,265 minutes in his last season with Glasner, Kamada scored 9 goals and assisted 6 with an xG of 9.9 and an xA of 3.4. In that season, he also averaged 1.35 key passes per 90 and 1.63 shots per 90. He has already started to show the Eagle fans what he is all about, in 175 minutes in the pre-season, Daichi Kamada has already managed to score 1 and assist a further 2 goals. For 5.5 million and an ownership of just 0.7%, Kamada can be a surprise many don’t see coming.

Daniel Munoz (£5.0)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Munoz

The second defender on this list of best FPL picks outside of the top 6 is Crystal Palace’s right-back, Daniel Munoz. Signed last season in the winter transfer window, Munoz started 16 games for the Eagles playing 1440 minutes. In these 1440 minutes, Munoz gave 4 assists and kept 5 clean sheets. While Crystal Palace conceded the fifth-least number of goals last season, Munoz provides more than just defensive points. He plays very high up the pitch shown by the 8 shots, all of which he took from inside the box. He also played 21 key passes (1.3 per 90) and created 5 big chances. For just 5 million with an ownership of just 4.4%, if Munoz continues playing the same role, he can be a great rank booster.

Honourable Mentions: Jean-Philippe Mateta, Joachim Andersen

Everton

The first six fixtures: Brighton (H), Tottenham (A), Bournemouth(H), Aston Villa (A), Leicester(A) and Crystal Palace (H).

Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.5)

The second defender who can be one of the best FPL picks outside of the top 6 is Everton’s left-back Vitalii Mykolenko. The Ukranian defender started 28 games (2,469 minutes) and helped the toffees keep 9 clean sheets. He was also able to get amongst the goals, scoring twice and assisting once. He averaged almost one shot per 90 (0.95), 1.31 interceptions per 90, 3.35 clearances per 90, 1.39 successful tackles per 90, 5.18 recoveries per 90 and 1.31 blocks per 90. A solid left-back with the ability to create chances priced at just 4.5 million with some favourable fixtures in the first 6 Gameweeks is a solid bargain.

Everton and Palace Defenders too rotate well for the first 12 Gameweeks of the season as seen below(Further Read: Best FPL Rotational Pairs and Combinations for the 2024/25 season)

Jarrad Branthwaite (£5.0)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Branthwaite

One of England’s hottest young centre-backs is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. In 35 starts last season, Jarrad Branthwaite helped the Toffees keep 12 clean sheets, while also scoring thrice and assisting once. A centre-back with a knack for scoring goals, Jarrad Branthwaite might have been unlucky to not go to the Euros, but he can be one of the best FPL picks outside of the top 6. 12 of Branthwaite’s 14 shots last season came from inside the box showing how much of a threat he is inside the box. In defensive actions, he averaged 1.44 interceptions per 90, 1.47 blocks per 90, 4.71 clearances per 90, 0.92 successful tackles per 90 and 5.23 ball recoveries per 90. At 5 million, Branthwaite may not be the cheapest player out there but he can be one hell of a bargain.

Fulham

First six fixtures: Manchester United (A), Leicester (A), Ipswich (A), West Ham (H), Newcastle (A) and Forrest (A)

Rodrigo Muniz (£6.0)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Muniz

The Brazilian striker caught the eye of many when in February of 2024, he scored 4 goals in 4 Premier League games, then in March he went a little further scoring 4 goals and assisting twice in 4 Premier League games. In just 1593 minutes last season, Muniz had 11 goal contributions and has started the pre-season also strongly, scoring once and assisting another in Fulham’s game against Watford. He averaged 4.12 shots per 90 with 1.47 of them being on target and1.02 key passes per 90. However, we could see him get rotated with Raul Jiminez back in the mix. But with favourable fixtures, playing 2 relegated teams in the first three gameweeks, Muniz could have a very good start to the season if he starts for Fulham. Priced at 6 million with an ownership of 5.9%, he can be the ideal third forward.

Honorable mentions: Andreas Pereira, Timothy Castagne

Ipswich Town

The first six fixtures: Liverpool (H), Manchester City (A), Fulham (H), Brighton (A), Southampton (A), and Aston Villa (H)

Leif Davies (£4.5)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Leif Davies

Last season in 43 starts (3,781 minutes), playing as a left-back, ex-Leeds United left-back Leif Davies scored 2 goals (xG of 2.1) and provided his team with 18 assists (xA of 11.2). He also averaged 0.74 shots per 90, 2.98 key passes per 90, 8.12 crosses per 90, and 1.64 passes into the penalty box. He also averages 27.04 touches in the attacking 3rd per 90, which shows how high up the pitch he usually plays. He also wins almost 60% of his aerial duels. If you’re in the market for a cheap, not very well-known defender but with attacking potential, Leif Davies could be your man for just 4.5 million.

Honourable Mentions: Ben Johnson and Liam Delap

Leicester City

The first six fixtures: Tottenham (H), Fulham (A), Aston Villa (H), Crystal Palace (A), Everton (H) and Arsenal (A)

Stephy Mavididi (£5.0)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Mavididi

Leicester City are back in the premier league, and while it does mean Jamie Vardy is back in the premier league, it also means the entrance of Stephy Mavididi into the highest echelon of English football. Usually deployed as a winger, Mavididi is also capable of playing upfront. He scored 12 goals and assisted six as Leicester gained promotion back to the premier league. The 26-year-old averaged 2.21 shots per 90 with 0.85 being on target, 1.81 key passes per 90, 1.73 dribbles per 90 and 1.18 fouls drawn per 90. He has carried this form into the pre-season scoring 2 goals in the 194 minutes that he has played in the three friendlies.

Wout Faes (£4.0)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Faes

Those who played the recently concluded UEFA Euro Fantasy game are pretty well acquainted with the 4.0 million-priced Wout Faes. The Belgian defender is usually deployed as a Centre-back but is also capable of playing left-back or as a defensive midfielder. Faes averages 0.21 shots on target per 90 (better than 80% of centre-backs in top 5 leagues), 0.4 key passes per 90, 1.32 blocks per 90, 1.39 interceptions per 90, 3.13 clearances per 90 and 5.11 ball recoveries per 90. Priced at just 4.0 million, Faes can be a great 5th defender option.

Honourable mentions: Jamie Vardy

Newcastle United

The first six fixtures: Southampton (H), Bournemouth (A), Tottenham (H), Wolves (A), Fulham (A) and Manchester City (H).

Alexander Isak (£8.5)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Isak

After an injury-ridden first season with the Magpies, Alexander Isak redeemed himself in his second season at Newcastle. In 27 starts last season, playing 2253 minutes, Isak scored 21 goals and assisted a further four. He averaged 2.88 shots per 90 with 1.44 of them being on target (50% of his shots are on target), 1.08 key passes per 90 and 1.68 dribbles per 90. With favourable fixtures to start the season, rested from the recent Euros, and an already impressive pre-season scoring 3 goals in 171 minutes across three games, Alexander Isak looks to have an even better season this time around. Get him before the first week, since he is already 55.7% owned.

Anthony Gordon (£7.5)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Gordon

The next Newcastle player on the list is their winger, Anthony Gordon. Selected for the Euros where he barely featured, Gordon will look to come back and emulate his form from last season. Last season, in 34 starts or 2,896 minutes, Gordon scored 11 goals (xG of 10.03) and assisted a further 16 (xA 5.4) more. He averaged a whopping 5.2 points per match, created 16 big chances and completed 1.57 dribbles per 90. At just 7.5, Gordon is a cheaper entry into the Newcastle attack and with Trippier linked with a move away this summer, Gordon could also be on set-pieces.

Stats from Fantasy Football Hub – For more OPTA Stats, Player Comparisons, Heatmaps, FPL Planner, AI Rate my Team Tool subscribe at 50% discount here

Tino Livramento (£4.5)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Livramento

With Kieran Trippier linked with a move away from Newcastle and not getting any younger, this could be the breakout season for the ex-Chelsea graduate, Tino Livramento. Capable of playing both as a right-back and as a right-winger, Livramento started 12 out of 26 games he played in last season. He scored one goal with an xG of 0.4. He also rotates well with Aston Villa and Forest defenders from GW1 to GW6.

Honourable mentions: Dan Burn

If we get indication that either of Livramento/Burn are nailed to start the season, you can couple them up with a Villa Defender for a Budget Defender Rotation as they rotate well. (Further Read: Best FPL Rotational Pairs and Combinations for the 2024/25 season)

Nottingham Forest

First Six Fixtures: Bournemouth (H), Southampton (A), Wolves (H), Liverpool (A), Brighton (A) and Fulham (H)

Chris Wood (£6.0)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Chris Wood

When the Kiwi striker Chris Wood switched allegiances from Newcastle to Forest, not many batted an eye, however, Wood made them stand up and notice. In 20 starts or 1801 minutes, Chris Wood scored 14 goals (xG of 11.71) and assisted another one (xA of 0.92). He averaged 2.38 shots per 90 with 1.29 of them being on target (54.2% compared to Isak’s 50%!), and had an xG of 0.67 per 90. He is a huge threat from corners, winning 3.58 headers per game and is an equally good finisher. He has also hit the pre-season running scoring 2 in 135 minutes. He becomes even more appealing when you realise that Forest only play one of the top four from last season in their first ten fixtures. Is the big Kiwi man on your list?

Morgan Gibbs-White (£6.5)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Chris Wood

Priced 0.5 million more than his teammate, MGW in 35 starts or 3156 minutes last season scored 5 goals (xG of 6.65) and assisted 12 (xA of 6.79). He was the man creative force in the midfield and the default set piece taker for Forest and now with Chris Wood firing, we could hopefully see MGW’s numbers improving this season. He averages 2.02 shots per 90, 0.46 big chances created per 90, 2.11 key passes per 90, 1.25 dribbles per 90, 1.63 drawn fouls per 90 and 5.19 crosses per 90, making it easy to pick up bonus points.

Adam Armstrong (£5.5)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Adam Armstrong

With the Saints back in the Premier League, it also means Adam Armstrong is back in the Premier League. In the two seasons that he played as a Saint in the premier league, he scored 4 goals in 2 seasons. Armstrong can play on the flanks, as a forward or even as an attacking midfielder. Last Season in the championship, Armstrong scored 24 goals (xG of 23.4) and assisted 13 (xA of 7.9). He averaged 3.36 shots per 90, 1.3 shots on target per 90 and 1.49 key passes per 90. Priced at just 5.5 million, will you trust in Adam Armstrong this time around?

West Ham

First Six Fixtures: Aston Villa (H), Crystal Palace (A), Manchester City (H), Fulham (A), Chelsea (H), Brentford (A) and Ipswich (H)

Mohammed Kudus (£6.5)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Kudus

The next player on the list of best fpl picks outside of top 6 is Mohammed Kudus. In this debut season for West Ham, Kudus scored 8 goals (xG of 5.06) and assisted a further 9 (xA of 3.48) in 27 starts or 2485 minutes. He averaged 2.43 shots per 90 with 0.62 of them being on target, 4.5 dribbles per 90, 1.01 key passes per 90, 0.18 big chances created per 90, and 2.72 fouls drawn. If Kudus can keep his form going, maybe under a new manager, both West Ham and Kudus can continue shining.

Jarrod Bowen (£7.5)

FPL Picks Outside Top 6 Teams- Bowen

The second Hammer on the list is Jarrod Bowen. Unlike Anthony Gordon, Bowen did get to come off the bench for England during the Euros, but failed to make a significant impact on the tournament. However for West Ham, in 34 games (3020 minutes) he scored 16 goals (xG of 11.96) and assisted a further 6 (xA of 4.9) accounting for a goal involvement in 40% of the total goals scored. He averaged 2.5 shots per 90 with 1.1 of them being on target, 0.95 key passes per 90, 0.36 big chances created per 90 and 1.1 dribbles per 90. Can the Hammers talisman continue his great form for the club this season too?
