One of the most competitive price points ahead of the new FPL season is the £6.5m FPL midfielders. There are plenty of exciting assets to choose from, but which player is most likely to deliver on points? I will analyse individual statistics, as well as team performance and starting fixtures to come to a conclusion. I will also suggest some alternatives to the popular picks that could provide some crucial differential points.

Best £6.5m FPL Midfielders Comparison for 2024/25 FPL Season
Statistics Overview
Bailey comes out on top for most of these statistics, for both expected and actual output. This shows the value to be had in the Villa attack. However, Nkunku’s figures per 90 are very positive. We obviously have a much smaller sample size, but this shows that he can be an explosive asset should he remain a nailed, consistent starter.
Gibbs-White also demonstrates that he is a very reliable asset, even if Forest are not the strongest team attacking-wise. Although Kudus’s output matched Gibbs-White, he massively over-performed his expected goal involvement of 8.5. This may be something to consider when deciding which midfielder to part in your starting squad.
Pre- Season Performance:
- Bailey: ⚽ A
- Nkunku: ⚽⚽⚽A
- Kudus: ⚽⚽A
- Gibbs-White: None
You can see the reason Nkunku has been a huge FPL bandwagon during pre-season, and if he continues this form and Chelsea continue their positive end to last season, I think we’ve got a gem on our hands. Bailey and Kudus have had a decent pre-season, while we haven’t seen much of Gibbs-White.

Set Piece Potential:
Gibbs-White has by far the best set-piece potential among these options, being on penalties, free-kicks and corners. Bailey is occasionally on free-kicks and corners, but Nkunku and Kudus will likely have very little to no set-piece responsibilities.
Team Comparison
As you can see, Chelsea, despite finishing below Villa last season, comes out on top for all attacking statistics shown here. This solidifies Nkunku as a bargain should he have an injury-free season. Villa are never far behind Chelsea, whereas Forest trail behind the rest of the pack. This makes sense considering they were the team closest to relegation, finishing in 17th. Therefore, the Forest team as a whole lack the quality of teams like Chelsea and Villa, so would be more of a punt.

Villa understandably comes out on top of all these teams in Hub’s fixture analyser. Other than a home game against Arsenal, there are some very nice games in here, including 2 against newly-promoted sides. Therefore, I think owning at least one Villa attacker would definitely be wise.
Forest come in not that far behind for fixture difficulty, and in particular that opening run of Bournemouth, Southampton, and Wolves is as good a time as any to invest in one of their budget-friendly options.
It is a little bit of a drop then to Chelsea, with that opening game against reigning champions City a bit of a hindrance. However, they do hit a fairly positive run after that, but will still come against some tougher defences.
However, these opening fixtures are a stumbling block for West Ham. Hub only rank Wolves below them in their fixture difficulty analyser, and you can definitely see why. Matches against Villa, Palace, Man City, and Chelsea are all big deterrents from investing in their players over the likes of other teams with much more favourable starts to the season.
Conclusion
My current squad has Bailey in that £6.5m FPL midfielder slot, and I don’t really see that changing. It’s likely I won’t have Watkins in my team, and I definitely want to cover Villa’s attackers. Bailey has both great scoring potential and creativity, and all around I think he’s a great bargain.
I think it’s risky going without Nkunku considering his ownership and explosiveness. He’s a great pick, but for me Bailey is my favoured option in this slot.
Although I think Gibbs-White is slightly edged out by Bailey and Nkunku, I do rate him as a pick considering his consistency and Forest’s opening fixtures. I would just personally prefer to go for what I think are more exciting options.
I would personally not start with Kudus for GW1 due to West Ham’s poor opening fixtures. When these flip, he would be an exciting option to target.

Differential Options
Dominic Szoboszlai is a player I’m predicting to have a great season, and I think he’s slightly under-priced for FPL. Szobo has 1 goal and 1 assist under his belt during pre-season. He may be a slight risk considering rotation and what position he will play under Slot, but I think it’s really tempting to take a punt on him.
Johnson has bagged 1 goal and 1 assist during pre-season, but I think the arrival of Solanke makes him less appealing. I would personally go with Solanke as your Spurs attacker, and maybe Son as a differential, rather than using your £6.5 midfielder spot on Johnson.
Man United’s Garnarcho has scored 1 goal in pre-season, but again I think there are better options in the United attack. Amad Diallo is £1.5m cheaper and has had a great pre-season. I think there are better options than Garnarcho.
