Best FPL Budget Enablers

FPL Budget Enablers – Goalkeepers (£4.5m)

Mark Flekken (£4.5m) – Brentford

FPL Budget Enablers - Goalkeepers (£4.5m) ~ Flekken

Finishing seventh in the 2023/24 season with 119 points, Mark Flekken asserted himself as Brentford’s number one goalkeeper, making 115 saves and keeping seven clean sheets.

It is, however, a little concerning to rely on Brentford’s defense, as despite Flekken’s shot-stopping abilities, the Bees conceded 61 goals last season. Brentford’s first five games are a mixed bag, with three of those matchup against top-five opponents. Nonetheless, Flekken could put together a steady streak of performances from Gameweeks 6-11, when the fixtures appear more favorable for Brentford.

Arijanet Murić (£4.5m) – Ipswich Town

Arijanet Muric played only eight games for Burnley last season, so the data is limited, but he appears to be an intriguing asset to keep an eye on. Muric made 22 saves for his previous team, averaging 2.8 saves per game. The goalkeeper is also an excellent shot-stopper when faced with penalties, possessing strong qualities as the last line of defense.

Joining Ipswich Town as one of their top summer signings, the Kosovo international is poised to make an impact with the newly promoted side.

FPL Budget Enablers – Defenders (£4m – £4.5m)

Jacob Greaves (£4m) – Ipswich Town

FPL Budget Enablers - Defenders ~ Jacob Greaves

In 43 appearances for Hull City last season, Jacob Greaves scored 2 goals and provided 4 assists, keeping 11 clean sheets and played a total of 3,870 minutes for the Tigers.

Key statistics for Greaves include:

  • 4.3 clearances per 90 minutes (187 clearances)
  • 0.8 blocks per 90 minutes (36 blocks)
  • 1.2 successful tackles per 90 minutes (69.7% tackle success)
  • 1.0 interception per 90 minutes (44 interceptions)

Like his new teammate Muric, Ipswich Town has invested in acquiring an accomplished defender who looks extremely promising for the Premier League and holds a lot of potential for bonus points when Ipswich Town keep a clean sheet and poses himself as an essential budget-friendly addition to your fantasy teams.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis (£4m) – Southampton

FPL Budget Enablers - Defenders ~ Taylor Harwood-Bellis (£4m)

IIn 40 appearances for Southampton in the Championship, Harwood-Bellis scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists, keeping 11 clean sheets and played a total of 3,501 minutes for the Saints.

Key statistics for Taylor Harwood-Bellis include:

  • 3.4 clearances per 90 minutes (131 clearances)
  • 0.9 blocks per 90 minutes (35 blocks)
  • 0.3 successful tackles per 90 minutes (41.9% tackle success)
  • 1.2 interceptions per 90 minutes (47 interceptions)

These statistics indicate that Harwood-Bellis can be relied on for consistent minutes and has the potential to secure a lot of bonus points. The former Manchester City talent made a permanent move to Southampton and it’s not surprising that the Englishman and gain a high ownership, as he is priced quite fairly at £4m.

Wout Faes (£4m) – Leicester City

FPL Budget Enablers - Defenders ~ Wout Faes (£4m)

In 43 appearances for Leicester last season, Wout Faes scored 2 goals and kept 14 clean sheets, playing a total of 3,825 minutes for the Foxes.

Key statistics for Faes include:

  • 3.0 clearances per 90 minutes (128 clearances)
  • 0.8 blocks per 90 minutes (35 blocks)
  • 0.8 successful tackles per 90 minutes (62.1% tackle success)
  • 1.4 interceptions per 90 minutes (59 interceptions)

Among the £4m defenders, Faes stands out with his impressive number of interceptions and his surprising attacking contributions, having created 17 chances, possibly during his time as a left-back. Under new boss Steve Cooper, should Leicester’s defense become more solid, I recommend Wout Faes as a key asset to start in your team when the Foxes have a favorable run of fixtures.

Marc Guehi (£4.5m) – Crystal Palace

FPL Budget Enablers - Defenders ~ Marc Guehi (£4.5m)

Fortunately, we are blessed with a plethora of solid defenders priced at £4.5m, however it’s the Englishman Marc Guehi’s solid performances for both club and country that makes him a quality addition to our budget enablers entries.

The 23-year-old excelled in defensive actions for the Eagles. In 23 league starts last season, Guehi completed 17 shots blocked, amassed 89 clearances, and secured six clean sheets. Marc Guehi is also a significant goal threat from corners and indirect free kicks, and most importantly, you can bet on his secured minutes to feature for Crystal Palace.

FPL Budget Enablers – Midfielders (£5.5m or below)

Callum Hudson-Odoi (£5.5m) – Nottingham Forest

FPL Budget Enablers - Midfielders ~ Callum Hudson-Odoi (£5.5m)

Featuring in 29 games during his debut season with Nottingham Forest, Callum Hudson-Odoi scored 8 goals and contributed 2 assists in 20 starts. The 23-year-old was instrumental in helping his club avoid relegation in the final week of the 2023-24 season, finishing with 109 FPL points.

Hudson-Odoi has been the talk of the FPL community thanks to his newfound form in pre-season friendlies, where he scored a goal and provided two assists. As of writing, Hudson-Odoi’s ownership is under 10%, making him a strong differential to start the season.

Yankuba Minteh (£5.5m) – Brighton

Upon completing a successful loan spell in the Eredivisie, scoring 10 and providing 5 assists with Feyenoord, Minteh made him return to the Premier league, but not in the blacks and white stripes of Newcastle. Instead, he now dons the blue and whites stripes, signing as a new player for Brighton.

Scoring two goals for the Seagulls in pre-season friendlies, Yakuba Minteh is proving himself to be a player to watch in the coming games. Brighton have a decent run of fixtures between Gameweeks 4-5, with back-to-back home games against Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest. The 20-year-old Gambian International is high on my watchlist for those fixtures.

Abdul Fatawu (£5.5m) – Leicester City

FPL Budget Enablers - Midfielders ~ Abdul Fatawu (£5.5m)

After making his move from Sporting CP to Leicester City permanent following a successful loan spell in the Championship, Abdul Fatawu is fairly priced at £5.5m this season.

Key Statistics from Fatawu (2023/24 season)

  • 6 goals scored ⚽️
  • 13 assists 🅰️
  • 66 chances created
  • 90 successful dribbles
  • Amassed an expected assists of 10.75 (xA)

Leicester’s number 7 is not just a skillful dribbler and capable goal scorer but also has a high ability to be a key creator for his team. Fatawu is my personal favorite among the cheap players to own, and I am hoping he gets into form quickly in his debut Premier League season.

Andreas Pereira (£5.5m) – Fulham

The ball delivery specialist on set-pieces for Fulham, Andreas Pereira, is priced very fairly this season. Looking at key statistics from last season, Pereira scored 3 goals, and provided 9 assists for the Cottagers. With 9 big chances created (84 chances created overall), the 28-year-old Brazilian international is a key creator for Fulham, making him an excellent budget-friendly option for your fantasy team.

Joao Gomes (£5m) – Wolves

FPL Budget Enablers - Midfielders ~ Joao Gomes

Starting 32 out of 34 matches in the 2023-24 campaign with Wolves, Joao Gomes managed to get on the scoresheet twice and provided two assists for the team.

Gomes completed 74 tackles, won 211 duels, and made 183 ball recoveries. The Brazilian midfielder is not prominent for scoring goals; however, he offers secure minutes, playing a similar box-to-box role like Douglas Luiz of last season.

Morgan Rogers (£5m) – Aston Villa

FPL Budget Enablers - Midfielders ~ Morgan Rogers

With the departure of Moussa Diaby to Saudi Arabia, many FPL managers have tipped Morgan Rogers to gain significant minutes this season. The left winger has strongly impressed in pre-season friendlies, scoring 3 goals and providing an assist so far.

It might be too early to consider him a key starter in our teams as he might compete with Jaden Philogene (£5.5m), who was impressive during his loan spell with Hull City. However, Morgan Rogers positions himself as a person of interest and is on the watchlist until we are certain he is a regular starter.

Harry Winks (£4.5m) – Leicester City

FPL Budget Enablers - Midfielders ~ Harry Winks

Midfield maestro Harry Winks played 45 league games for Leicester in the 2023-24 season in the Championship, helping the foxes secure promotion back to the league.

Priced at £4.5 million, the 31-year-old former Spurs asset’s expertise will be required to help Leicester stay in the league and escape relegation. Winks excels in ball recovery, interceptions, and important tackles, and he can be counted on as a bench folder.

FPL Budget Enablers – Forwards (£6m or below)

Chris Wood (£6m) – Nottingham Forest

FPL Budget Enablers - Forwards ~ Chris Wood

Scoring 14 goals and contributing an assist for Nottingham Forest in the previous campaign, Chris Wood coming in at £6m this season could be a big steal.

Based on our last season metrics, Wood played 1,806 minutes, taking 48 shots and having a non-penalty expected goals (npxG) of 11.92. The 32-year-old veteran has largely impressed during the pre-season friendlies and now fancies himself as the forerunner for the team as Forest take on Bournemouth, Southampton, and Wolves in their first three games.

Top Players for NPxG (2023-24 Season)

  • Haaland – 22.9
  • Jackson – 18.6
  • Solanke – 17.2
  • Watkins – 16.8
  • Isak – 15.6
  • Nunez – 15.5
  • Salah – 15.5
  • Luis Diaz – 11.9
  • Wood – 11.9
  • Bowen – 11.6

Rodrigo Muniz (£6m) – Fulham

Making his mark on the Premier league with a consecutive seven goals scored in seven matches, Rodrigo Muniz stamped his foothold as the primary forward for the Cottagers, scoring 9 goals and providing 2 assists in total. His stunning performance against Tottenham in GW 29, where he scored a brace, remains unforgettable.

Ranked first for the most shots taken by a Fulham player (73), Rodrigo Muniz poses a significant threat against any Premier League defense and may be fixture-proof. The Brazilian youngster is one to consider as Fulham takes on two newly promoted sides, Ipswich Town and Leicester City, between Gameweeks 2-3.

Adam Armstrong (£5.5m) – Southampton

FPL Budget Enablers - Forwards ~ Adam Armstrong

With a whopping 21 goals scored and 12 assists contributed for Southampton in last season’s Championship campaign, I honestly expected Adam Armstrong to be priced much higher than £5.5m, maybe £6m.

Armstrong’s impressive numbers, which include 3,760 minutes played, 114 shots taken, and a high non-penalty expected goals (npxG) of 19.44, demonstrate his ability to be a lethal forward while also creating opportunities for others. If Southampton can find success in their Premier League comeback, Adam Armstrong has the potential to compete for a third forward slot in our fantasy teams.

Notes:

  • Non-penalty expected goals (npxG) is a statistic that measures the likelihood of a goal being scored from a particular shot, based on factors like distance from the goal, angle, type of assist, and the location of defenders. npxG is a valuable tool for analyzing the true performance of teams and players by focusing on the quality of scoring chances created in open play.
  • Even though this FPL Budget Enablers article only covers 16 players above, this does not limit other excellent budget-friendly options for you to consider. A few honorable mentions include Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (£4.5m), Brighton’s Leftback Valentín Barco (£4m), Ipswich’s wingbacks Ben Johnson (£4m) and Leif Davis (£4.5m), alongside Omari Hutchinson (£5.5m) in the midfield.
  • New signings for Crystal Palace Daichi Kamada (£5.5m), Wolves Rodrigo Gomes (£5.5m) and Aston Vila Ross Barkley (£5.5m) are worth considering with their recent performances in pre-season friendlies. Leicester City Stephy Mavididi (£5.5m) and club icon Jamie Vardy (£5.5m), along with Brighton’s striker Joao Pedro (£5.5m) are all attractive picks.
