The group stage is over, the knockout fixtures are confirmed, the stage is set – and what a tournament it’s been so far! Unlimited transfers, players returning from injury, freak results – it’s all a lot to navigate, so in this post we’ll be taking a look at some players you maybe haven’t yet* considered for your team, but who could turn out to be excellent picks going forward into the knockout round. In this post we will be discussing the best 2024 Euro Fantasy MD4 Differentials, taking into account fixtures, form, underlying numbers and of course ownership (or TSB).

Cucurella, Price: 4.5m, TSB 7%

Euro Fantasy MD4 Differential Picks- Cucurella

After having been rested in MD3, Cucurella looks set to regain his starting place in MD4. Spain are yet to concede a goal, let me repeat that, yet to concede a goal, and in MD4 face Georgia, widely considered to be one of the weakest teams in the tournament. The Chelsea fullback sits on 16 points, the 4th most of any Spanish player, and is much less heavily owned than his fullback partner Carvajal (TSB 27%), who is also 1m more expensive.

Not only is he part of arguabley (definitely) the best defence in Europe, he has also proved himself to be an all action player, making 14 ball recoveries against Italy, creating 3 chances and 2 big chances, and delivering a huge 10 points to those managers who put their faith in him. Do not be put off by his lack of minutes in MD3, De La Fluente rotated the whole team, and while the second string performed admirabley, he is likely to go back to his tried and tested team in the next game.

Sabitzer, Price: 6.5m, TSB 6%

Euro Fantasy MD4 Differential Picks- Sazbitzer

Austria showed what a force they are in their final group game, beating a strong Netherlands side 3-2 to top a group which also contained France. Sabitzer has continued his late season club form into this tournament, and is central to everything Austria do. ‘Das Team’ have so far scored 6 goals, the 2nd highest at EURO 2024, only behind hosts Germany, and their performances have been ameliorating game on game.

Sabitzer is an energetic midfielder, averaging over 0.5xG+A per 90 this tournament, scoring once, recovering 9 balls and winning a penalty. In Ragnick’s 4-2-3-1 he plays as an attacking midfielder and offers great attacking threat, as well as points from other sources (as mentioned). Austria have emerged as a dark horse, and with Turkey in the first knockout round, they stand a decent chance of progressing, so now is the time to buy!

Akanji, Price: 5m, TSB 9%

Euro Fantasy MD4 Differential Picks- Akanji

I was really impressed by Switzerland in MD3 against a very strong Germany team, but it was hard to pick out one standout player. The Swiss have a reputation in international tournaments of being functional, not too exciting, but getting the job done, and being solid throughout, and they are living up to that expectation.

Coming off the back of an impressive season in the Premier League, Akanji has shone at the heart of Switzerland’s defence, and as well as his clean sheet points, is a monster at ball recoveries. He is 5th overall for ball recoveries at the tournament with 23, and against a pretty blunt Italy side, I back him to get some major points. If they can nullify Germany, they should have no trouble against Italy.

Fabian Ruiz, Price: 6.5m, TSB 9%

Euro Fantasy MD4 Differential Picks- Spain

As mentioned, Spain have a great fixture in MD4, and are likely to progress to the knockouts, so having a core of Spanish players in our teams is essential. While wingers Williams and Yamal are the more popular picks, Ruiz is a great differential for those looking to triple up. The midfielder put in a stunning performance in MD1 against Croatia, getting points for scoring, assisting, and ball recoveries, as well as taking home 3 bonus points. While his MD2 was less exciting, he still managed 5 ball recoveries and a clean sheet. What is extra enticing about Spain assets is the fact that they play on the 30th June, meaning that they can always be subbed for players who play later on in the MD if necessary, and at 6.5m, Ruiz is cheap enough to be benched if needed.

Vitinha, Price: 6m, TSB 5%

For the second MD in a row, Vitinha makes the list, despite getting a big fat 0 points in MD3. Now, his lack of points in MD3 is due to his lack of playing time, Martinez, like De La Fluente made big big changes to his team for their match against Georgia, due to the fact that Portugal were already qualified. This led to a difficult game for the Portuguese team and a 2-0 loss to underdogs Georgia.

Therefore, Vitinha is more than likely to start the first knockout match, along with Bruno Fernandes and other traditional first teamers who were benched in MD3. To reiterate the point from the last MD, Vitinha is one of the most nailed Portuguese players, more likely to start than other more ‘attacking’ picks like Leao and Jota. This fact, coupled with his MOTM display in MD1, and his ability to pick up some extra points thanks to his ball recoveries, means that he remains a great differential for Euro Fantasy MD4. He is a central cog to Portugal’s chance creation along with the more highly owned (and expensive) Bruno Fernandes, so if you’re looking for something a bit different, Vitinha is your man!

Euro Fantasy Super Differential for MD4 <1%

Baumgartner, Price: 6.5m, TSB 1%

Earmarked as a potential breakout star prior to the tournament, Baumgartner is starting to show his ability in an Austrian side who are on a roll. While Sabitzer is a solid choice, Baumgartner is perhaps the more exciting, if slightly more risky pick (he came off the bench in MD3 and played just over 20 minutes, BUT still got an assist). While his 1.36 shots per 90 might put some off, it’s important to note that ALL of those shots have been on target and ALL were all taken inside the box; quality not quantity.

Ragnick’s high pressing football is so unique and played at such a high intensity that rotation is (unfortunately) inevitable, but Baumgartner is one of the most talented and explosive players in the squad, so should definitely be on our radar.
