2024 Euro Fantasy MD2 – Top Differential Picks to Consider

While MD1 is not quite over yet, it’s time for us to look forward to MD2, and some potential differential picks for your teams, to give you the edge in your mini leagues or to make up for ground lost in MD1. In this post we will be discussing the best 2024 Euro Fantasy MD2 Differentials, taking into account fixtures, form, underlying numbers and of course ownership (or TSB).

TSB = Teams Selected By and is usually expressed as a percentage. In this post a differential is any player under 10% TSB at the time of writing, and our ‘super’ differential pick is under 1% TSB at the time of writing.

Throughout this post I mention predicted goals for and against for the tournament, if you want to find out more, please read our Euro 2024 Predicted Goals (For & Against) of All 24 Teams blog.

Chiesa, Price 7.5m, TSB 8%

2024 Euro Fantasy MD2 Differentials ~ Chiesa

Chiesa was electric against Albania, taking 3 shots, creating 2 chances, 1 big chance and securing 3 bonus points for his performance. The issue is that this week the Azzuri have a huge game against another favourite to win the tournament – Spain. Spain beat Croatia 3-0 but it was not as convincing as the scoreline suggests, and Croatia proved that it is possible to dominate possession and create chances against La Roja, they are not impenetrable.

Chiesa heatmap via Sofacore

The Juventus attacker played on the Right Wing against Albania, and if he plays on the same side against Spain he’ll be up against Cucurella, who is not a great 1-v-1 defender, and often looks to get into attacking positions, leaving acres of space for his teammates to cover, space which Chiesa would easily exploit. Chiesa’s price tag is high, but he is definitely worth it – he was back to his best against Albania, and it would not be a surprise to see him get some points again in MD2, despite the opponent.

Kramaric, Price: 7.5m, TSB 1%

2024 Euro Fantasy MD2 Differentials ~ Kramaric

Despite an early goal against Italy, Albania are still the weakest team in group B. They put up a decent fight against endless Azurri pressure, but gave up numerous good chances which the Italians squandered. Croatia, like Italy, will look to dominate the ball and create chances through their possession of the ball in Albania’s half. As their style is not dissimilar to Italy’s, we can expect the ‘Blazers’ to create at least as much as Spalletti’s side did, if not more.

Croatia were unlucky against Spain, on the day one team was more clinical than the other, and that was the difference. Croatia had an xG of 2.38 compared to Spain’s 2.01, and the shot count was 16 – 11 in their favour, demonstrating how even the game was. Kramaric himself was also arguably unlucky, as he kept getting into good positions, but the ball never came. Croatia’s number 9 took 2 shots with a combined xG of 0.46, the highest non-penalty xG in the team; he was the target, and if he puts in a similar performance against Albania, he will return.

Eriksen, Price: 7m, TSB 4%

2024 Euro Fantasy MD2 Differentials ~ Eriksen

How is this man on only 4% ownership? He marginally missed out on making the list last week, and was instead mentioned on our Social Media Platforms, but his stats from his MD1 fixture mean that he is an easy inclusion on this list, despite the ‘tricky’ fixture against England in MD2. Last time round I opted for his national and club teammate Rasmus Hojlund, but after scoring and putting in a man-of-the-match performance in MD1, he makes the list this week.

Eriksen heatmap vs Slovenia via Sofascore

Eriksen scored Denmark’s only goal of the game against Slovenia, creating 7 chances, taking 5 shots (1 on target), and managing an xG of 0.8 and an xA of 0.73. Denmark’s fixture in MD2 is their hardest of the group stage, facing England, but it is not an insurmountable task, and it would not be surprising to see them come away with at least a point from the game. England were not convincing in MD1 against Serbia, so don’t let the Three Lions scare you into submission, Eriksen is a great pick for MD2.

Livakovic, Price: 5m, TSB 5%

2024 Euro Fantasy MD2 Differentials ~ Livakovic

While Livakovic didn’t have the most amazing game against Spain, conceding 3 goals from an xGOT faced of 2.69, and only making 2 saves. However, as mentioned above, Albania are a team to target. I was not impressed by their performance against Italy, and the stats back this theory up: 0.5xG and 8 shots against Italy, 5 of these shots coming from the edge of the box, rather than being really high quality well worked chances close to goal.

Donnarumma did not have a lot to do, and I expect Livakovic to have a similarly quiet game so long as Croatia can hold their nerve and not make any silly mistakes – something which Croatia are renowned for doing in international tournaments of late. Whilst his performance was not the best against Spain, Albania are an entirely different kettle of fish, and I think you could do a lot worse than picking the Croatian shot-stopper this MatchDay.

Tah, Price: 4.5m, TSB: 5%

2024 Euro Fantasy MD2 Differentials ~ Tah

After a convincing win against Scotland in MD1, Germany are definitely a team to target. While their attack may get all the plaudits, they only conceded 1 shot and 0.02 xG over the course of the match, conceding an own goal from a set piece in the 87th minute to cruelly take away the clean sheet. Hungary did manage 1.25xG and 6 shots against Switzerland, but Germany are better and more defensively solid, so a clean sheet is very much on the cards.

Tah is the cheapest way (after fan favourite Mittlestadt) into the German defence, and looks to be a certain starter for MD2 and beyond. If you have a bit of money to spare, then RB Kimmich could be an interesting pick, after creating 4 chances and taking 1 shot, but if you’re short on funds, then Tah is a solid (and differential) choice.

Euro Fantasy Super Differential for MD1 <1%

Embolo, Price: 6.5m, TSB 0%

Embolo

While Duah secured all the headlines, it was Embolo’s instant impact from the bench which caught my eye. Of course, his stats are much less impressive than Duah’s, due to his limited minutes, but if Embolo is fit, he is the first choice. Switzerland created a lot of good chances against Hungary and you would expect them to repeat that against Scotland, who, against Germany offered very little. Embolo will look to exploit the same channels as Duah did against Hungary, as well as being a more physical presence, and more of a threat from crosses and set pieces.

Some may be concerned that Duah’s performance puts him in contention to start against Scotland, but Embolo is and always has been the first choice. While his 1 shot and 0 chances created is nothing to write home about, Duah showed how easy it is for a clever striker to get chances in this Swiss team, and with Embolo leading the line, we can expect the same level of output.
