FPL DGW26 Teams & Players to Target with Fixture Ticker & Planner

Given the number of postponements, we’ve seen this season we were always due to get some double game week (DGW) announcements at some point. During the scheduled winter break we learned about 4 fixtures that have been slotted into FPL DGW26, giving 8 teams a DGW. In this article, I take a closer look at those 8 teams, their upcoming fixtures, and players to target moving forward.

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Arsenal

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Arsenal
FPL DGW26 Players to target ~ Arsenal
Arsenal fixtures from DGW26 to GW29

The Gunners have a nice looking DGW in GW26, with 2 home games against Brentford and Wolves. If we take a closer look at the attacking data of Arsenal’s opponents both teams are quite a long way down the league table, which gives us good reason to look at Arsenal’s defensive assets. Across their last 6 matches, Wolves have created an xG (expected goals scored) of just 6.19. Brentford are slightly higher in 12th but have only created an xG of 8.52 in their last 6 gameweeks.

From an attacking perspective, Arsenal’s 2 games are mixed. Wolves are 8th in the league for expected goals conceded (xGC) in the last 6 games with an xGC 8.54, however, they have only conceded 3 goals in this time which is the joint best in the league. On the other hand, Brentford appear to be slipping down the league from a defensive point of view. In the last 6 games they have an xGC of 11.13, but have actually conceded 16 goals. This is the worst in the league and this could therefore be a good gameweek to invest in an Arsenal attacker.

Arsenal blank game weeks

Before we take a closer look at the Arsenal assets I want to highlight that Arsenal do have blank gameweek (BGW) after the double in GW26, so owning Arsenal assets could depend on your chip strategy, particularly in GW27. Arsenal blank in GW25 because Chelsea are away at the club world club. Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester & Liverpool are also due to blank in GW27 because of the league cup final. If you don’t plan to use a free hit (FH) chip in GW27 and already have lots of players from any of these 4 teams you might avoid going too heavy on Arsenal players for the DGW. On the flip side, if you plan to use a FH in GW27 this allows you to load up on Arsenal players if you want to target their DGW.

Now let’s take a closer look at some of the key Arsenal players to consider for FPL DGW26

Aaron Ramsdale (GK – 5.1M)

FPL DGW26 players to Target ~ Ramsdale

Ramsdale has been in brilliant form for Arsenal since arriving from Sheffield United earlier this season. In the last 6 games he ranks joint 1st for clean sheets with 4, joint 1st for goals conceded with 3 and 2nd for xG prevented with 2.9.

Kieran Tierney (DF – 5.1M)

Tierney ~ FPL DGW26 players to target

Tierney missed GWs 9-14 earlier this season through injury but now appears to be injury-free and nailed at left-back. In the 7 games since he returned he has scored 52 points at almost points per game (1 goal, 2 assists, and 5 clean sheets). If you can afford to pay £5.1M for a defender he is the one to pick. He ranks 1st among all Arsenal defenders in the last 6 games for touches in the opponents penalty box (13)

Ben White (DF – 4.5M)

Ben White ~ FPL DGW26 players to target

If you cannot afford Tierney but want a cheaper Arsenal defender then you could consider White. He doesn’t offer a much-attacking threat but would still be good for any clean sheets and is nailed at centre back. White has picked up 7 bonus points this season which is joint 4th among all Arsenal players

Bukayo Saka (MF – 6.4M)

FPL DGW26 players to target

Saka is Arsenal’s most nailed attacking option and rarely misses much game time when fit. In his last 6 matches, he has registered 5 attacking returns (4 goals, 1 assist) plus 3 bonus points. Saka also has a very good xGI (expected goal involvement) in his last 6 matches with an xGI of 2.8.

Gabriel Martinelli (MF – 5.4M)

Image

Martinelli a great budget enabler to have as a 4th or 5th midfielder. He has 6 attacking returns in his last 9 games (3 goals, 3 assists) and 3 bonus points. He can be injury-prone but appears to have cemented his place in Arsenal’s first team for now. It is rumored Martinelli might see some game time in the “number 9” position which would increase his appeal. He’s although unavailable for the first game in DGW26 after he received a red card in GW24.

Note: Two games against Chelsea, and Spurs needs to be rescheduled which are not mentioned

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Burnley

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Burnley
FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Burnley

Burnley don’t have the best DGW26 on paper so you probably won’t want to go too heavy on their players, but they have a tasty double in DGW27 with Palace and Leicester who both have been defensively poor, aerially in particular. One interesting fact is that Brighton will also miss Dunk against Burnley which could well work in favor of Burnley.

In FPL DGW26 Burnley play Brighton and Spurs. Both of these teams defensive form has plummeted and their xGC in the last 6 matches is an indicator. Spurs are 14th with an xGC of 9 and Brighton are 11th with an xGC of 7.6. For this reason, you might want to avoid Burnley attackers.

Burnley are 17th in their last 6 matches for xG with 4.9. When we look at the attacking data of Burnley’s opponents it looks quite mixed. Spurs are third for xG in the last 6 matches with 13.4 compared to Brighton who are fifthth with an xG of 9.6. Burnley have however just kept 2 clean sheets in GW23 and conceded only two goals against Man United and Liverpool together, and in seasons gone by have shown they can keep clean sheets against pretty much anyone (except Man City)!

Now lets take a closer look at some of the key Burnley players to consider

Nick Pope (GK – 5.4M)

Nick Pope fpl dgw26 players to target

Pope was in fantastic form in GW23, keeping 2 clean sheets, making 10 saves and picking up 5 bonus points. In his last 6 matches, he has made 23 saves, registered 3 CS, 133 BPS, 7 Bonus points and 37 FPL points. If you have the budget for a £5.4M keeper then Pope should be high on your watchlist. Burnley still have two more games to re-arrange after DGW26 and DGW27 and will be fighting for every point to avoid relegation. We have seen in years gone by that they can be very organized under Dyche and difficult to beat.

James Tarkowski (DF – 4.9M)

Image

Tarkowski is nailed at centre back in the Burnley team. You might also consider Ben Mee who is 0.1M cheaper, however, Tarkowski edges his teammate in terms of the attacking stats. In the last 6 games, Tarkowski has an xGI of 0.7 compared to Mee with 0.6. Tarkowski has lower passes into the final third compared to Mee (32 v 47). Tarkowski comes out on top when looking at touches in the opponent’s box (11 vs 8).

I haven’t picked any other Burnley defenders at this stage because I cannot be certain who will start in the full back positions. Until recently Matt Lowton and Charlie Taylor appeared to be nailed in those positions but in the recent GW Connor Roberts and Erik Pieters played both games. Taylor has been out with a foot injury and Lowton appears to have lost in his at right back. If you want to pick a Burnley defender based on the certainty of starts I would recommend Tarkowski or Mee

Maxwell Cornet (MF – 5.9M)

Cornet fpl dgw26 players to target

By far the most exciting player at Burnley, Cornet offers you decent value and a player playing out of position (OOP). Cornet scored an impressive 6 goals in just 10 appearances. He has the highest xGI per 90 minutes all of Burnley’s midfielders this season (0.3 xGI/90). Since returning from AFCON he has started all three games which shows he’s free from injuries.

Wout Weghorst (FW – 6.5M)

Wout Weghorst fpl dgw26 players to target

After selling Chris Wood to Newcastle, many thought Burnley would struggle to find a replacement. During the January transfer window, Burnley signed Dutch international Weghorst from Wolfsburg. In 3 years at Wolfsburg Weghorst scored 59 goals in 118 games, which included 20 goals in 34 games last season.

So far in his three games for Burnley, he has had eight shots, two inside the box, one big chance, 0.66 xG, 3 chances created, one big chance created, 0.62 xA and an assist.

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Crystal Palace

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Crystal Palace

Many thought Crystal Palace would be one of the whipping boys this season with Roy Hodgson retiring and Patrick Viera appointed as his replacement. This has not been the case at all with Palace playing an attractive style of football under their new manager.

On the whole they have looked ok at the back and created chances in front of goal. They actually sit top of the fixture ticker for the next 6 GW’s. In GW24 they travel to Norwich who they beat 3-0 in the reverse fixture in GW20. They also play Brentford before DGW fixtures against Chelsea and Watford. After the DGW they play Burnley, so it would appear the next 5 GW’s represent a good opportunity to invest in assest from Palace.

If we look specifically at their GW26 opponents the fixtures are mixed. They play Chelsea first who will just be back from the club world cup. Should Chelsea reach the final they would be unlikely to return to the UK until 5 or 6 days before the fixture with Palace. Chelsea are only 11th for xG in their last 6 matches with 7.22. Watford are 15th for the same metric over the last 6 matches with 5.75. Neither team have been all that impressive from an attacking perspective of late, so you could consider a defensive assest at Palace.

In defence the data shows differing fortunes for Palace’s opponents. Chelsea have the best xGC in the league over the last 6 matches with 4.61, whereas Watford sit 14th with an xGC of 9.46. If you bring in any Palace attackers you would probably expect more attacking output in the Watford game.

Conor Gallagher

Conor Gallagher FPL DGW26 players to target

I should point out that Conor Gallagher will miss the Chelsea game as he’s ineligible to face his parent club. This will therefore be a single GW for him, so I haven’t included him in the players to consider section. Despite missing the first game of the DGW he has shown this season that he is definitely capabale of registering attacking returns, but for the purposes of this article I am focusing on players who could play in both games

Now lets take a closer look at some of the key Crystal Palace players to consider

Marc Guehi (DF – 4.5M)

Guehi is a good budget enabler if you are looking for a 4th or 5th defender who can provide bench cover when needed. He has the highest xGI for all Palace defenders this season (xGI 1.8). He is performing pretty much bang on his stats with 2 goals. He is 3rd among all defenders this season for baseline BPS and 13th for full BPS. He has only missed 1 game all season, which was a 3-0 defeat against Spurs.

Michael Olise (MF – 5.4M)

Olise FPL DGW26 players to target

If you are willing to take a bit of punt on a cheap midfielder with good stats then Olise is your man. Since his summer move from Reading he has struggled for game time but has shown Viera what he can do in the absense of some key players. Olise has an xGI/90 of 0.6 in the last 6 matches. He has 2 goals and 4 assists from limited minutes this season. He definitely not nailed in the Palace team but could be worth a punt.

Odsonne Edouard (FW – 6.5M)

Odsonne Edouard FPL DGW26 players to target

Edouard burst onto the scene in GW4 with 2 goals in a 6-minute cameo on debut. It took him a while to nail down a position in the starting XI but since GW16 Edouard has started every PL except for GW24 against Norwich. He often comes off around the 65-70 minute mark, so doesn’t often complete the full game.

In his last 6 games, Edouard has registered 7 attacking returns (3 goals and 2 assists). He was on penalties when Zaha was missing and considering the fact that Zaha missed one, he could be back on penalties. In his last 6 matches, Edouard is 3rd for all forwards in terms of xGI (3.7). Of all the Palace players to target, he would be my number 1 pick, particularly as we do not appear to have too many good forward options at the moment.

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Leeds Utd

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Leeds Utd
FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Leeds Utd

Having finished 9th last season many wouldn’t have predicted Leeds to be in a relegation battle this season. However, their squad has been hit with injuries and the results just haven’t come. Last season’s top goalscorer Patrick Bamford in particular has been a big miss. In FPL DGW26 they play against Man Utd and Liverpool. After the DGW they host Spurs before a fixture swing in GW27. The fixtures, in particular, don’t appear too favorable, so you might not want to invest too heavily in Leeds assets.

Leeds are 6th worst for xGC in their last 6 matches with 12.2, and have conceded 14 goals(third-worst) in that time. They are however 9th for attacking data with an xG of 9.5 in the last 6. For this reason, I am not recommending any defensive assets for Leeds. Marcelo Bielsa likes to play attacking football which does benefit the attacking players but leaves them open at the back. Neither of their GW26 opponents are completely water-tight at the back. In the last 6 matches, Liverpool rank 4th best for xGC with 6 and Man Utd are 8th with 8.7

Now lets take a closer look at some of the key Leeds players to consider

Raphinha (MF – 6.5M)

Raphinha FPL DGW26 players to target
Raphinha

By far the best asset at Leeds is the Brazilian. He is Leeds’s talisman this season with Bamford missing. He is on penalties and has scored 8 goals, which is 4 clear of any teammate. In his last 6 matches, Raphinha has an xGI of 3.2. He is joint 1st among all Leeds players for penalty area touches in the last 6 with 24. Raphinha, however, has been a bit poor over the last few games and was subbed off at halftime in GW25 which was not injury-related as first though.

Jack Harrison (MF – 5.5M)

Harrison FPL DGW26 players to target

If you do not have the budget for Raphinha and want to invest in a cheaper Leeds midfielder then you could consider Harrison. His xGI in the last 6 matches is around 2/3 of Raphinha’s at 2.3. He does like to get in the box and is level with Raphinha with penalty area touches in the last 6 matches (24). Harrison ranks 2nd behind Raphinha for almost every attacking statistics so if you can afford to spend the extra 1M I would favour the Brazilian.

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Liverpool

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Liverpool
FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Liverpool

Liverpool are just about top for every attacking statistic this season and offer an obvious choice for players to target in the next 4-5 GWs. Their players are pretty much fixture proof with Mo Salah in particular having registered double-digit hauls against Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd this season.

If we look at their GW26 opponents we can see that both are near the bottom of the table for defensive data. Norwich are 16th for xGC in the last 6 matches (12.5) and Leeds are 11th with an xGC of 8.3. Both teams are in the bottom 4 for actual goals conceded in the last 6 matches too (11 and 1 respectively).

Unlike the other teams in this article where I recommend several players to target I am going to assume the majority of FPL managers will own Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold for these 2 matches. I am therefore going to look at 3 options you might consider for your 3rd Liverpool spot.

Andrew Robertson (DF – 7.1M)

FPL DGW26 players to Target ~ Robbo

In his last 6 matches, Robertson is 2nd among defenders for xGI with 2.2. Since returning from suspension Robertson has registered four consecutive returns including two double-digit returns. He is also 2nd amongst all defenders for touches in the opponent’s half (24) and 2nd for passes into the opposition penalty area(56) in the last six games amongst defenders. He shares corners with TAA having taken 21 corners in his last 6 matches. This is 2nd only to TAA himself who has taken 25.

Diogo Jota (MF – 8.4M)

Diogo Jota FPL DGW26 players to target

Jota is 2nd for goals scored this season with 12 (only Salah has more with 16). He is also 2nd for xGI over the season with 14.87, again only behind Salah. Jota showed his potential with a brace against Leicester without Salah who came in only later as a sub and without mane altogether. He has also been in decent goalscoring form in the cup competitions, with a brace in the league cup semi final in January and a goal in the FA Cup 4th round. With the arriving of Diaz in the January transfer window and Firmino back to full fitness, Jota could see a reduced number of minutes but is still a fantastic option at his price.

Sadio Mane (MF – 11.7M)

Sadio Mane FPL DGW26 players to target

If your budget allows, you might consider Mane as your 3rd Liverpool player. He is only 2.1% owned at the time of writing and has been in great form for his country, Senegal, at AFCON. Mane is 8th for xGI in the last 6 matches with 3.64, which is slightly higher than Jota (2.77). Mane could be a great differential to include in your GW26 team. If he returns big points you could see a nice rank increase.

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Spurs

FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Spurs
FPL DGW26 Teams to Target ~ Spurs

Since the arrival of Antonio Conte Spurs have been significantly better from both an attacking and defensive perspective. In the last 6 matches, Spurs are second best for xG with 13.4 however they have not been defensively stable over the last few games in the absence of Dier and they are 14th for xGC with 9. They host Southampton and Wolves in the next 2 GWs before 2 away games in the DGW against Man City and Burnley. Spurs are definitely a team we could look to invest in over the coming GWs, particularly as they have a further 2 games to rearrange.

If we look at their GW26 opponents, the trip to Man City, in particular, appears to be tough on paper. City are 3th for xG in the last 6 matches with 12.5 and 2rd for xGC with 4.1. Spurs did however win the reverse fixture by a score of 1-0. Burnley have an xGC of 10.5 in their last 6 which is 5th worst in the league, and an xG of just 4.9 (16th best).

Now lets take a closer look at some of the key Spurs players to consider

Hugo Lloris (GK – 5.4M)

If you have the budget for a 5.4M keeper then you could look to invest in Lloris. He is the safest way to invest in the Spurs defence as he is completely nailed. Over the season Lloris is joint 4th for clean sheets (8) and 8th for goals conceded among all keepers to have played at least 1500 minutes.

I haven’t included any Spurs defenders in this article as it difficult to predict who will start. When fit Eric Dier is the most nailed center-back and Ben Davies appears to be playing regularly as LCB. In the system Conte likes to play, it is the wings backs that will offer the best route to points, but predicting which 2 will start is not easy. At left wing-back, Reguilon or Sessegnon could play and at right wing-back, he can choose between Emerson and Doherty.

Heung-Min Son (MF – 10.6M)

FPL DGW26 players to Target ~ Son

Before injury Son registered 7 attacking returns in 6 games (4 goals and 3 assists) and he returned from injury with a goal against Southampton in GW24 and blanked in GW25. In the last 6 Son has an xGI of 4.59 which is quite impressive.

Lucas Moura (MF – 6.5M)

If you want a cheaper way into the Spurs midfield then Lucas Moura is worth looking at. He has an xGI of 1.56 in his last 6 matches, which is 2nd behind Son in the Spurs midfield and 14th among all midfielders. He isn’t nailed in the Spurs team, however, so this is a much riskier pick. On his day he is capable of scoring big points, as demonstrated in GW19 when he registered 17 points.

Harry Kane (FW – 12.3M)

FPL DGW26 players to Target ~ Kane

Kane had a very poor start to the season after he didn’t get a move away from the club. Under Conte he has looked like a different animal though. In his last 6 matches, Kane has an xGI of 4.81 which is top among all forwards. He has had 31 goal attempts in the last 6, which is 9 more than any other forward. 18 of his goal attempts have been inside the box and he’s had 6 big chances in that time. Kane has also had the most penalty area touches of all forwards with 45.

FPL DGW26 Team to Target ~ Watford

FPL DGW26 Team to Target ~ Watford
FPL DGW26 Team to Target ~ Watford

Watford are a team with a new manager and struggling for results having picked up just 2 points in their last 9 games. They are struggling at both ends of the pitch having scored just 4 goals and conceded 17 in that run.

If we look closely at their GW26 opponents Villa are ranked 15th for xG in the last 6 matches with 6.3, while Palace are 8th with an xG of 8.84. At the other end Villa are 11th for xGC with 9.05 and Palace are 8th with 9.2. This further highlights that these fixtures are average at best for Watford. After the DGW they face Man Utd and Arsenal, so I don’t think you will want to invest too heavily in Watford assets.

Now let’s take a closer look at some of the key Watford players to consider

Ben Foster (GK – 4.1M)

Having missed the first game of Watford’s DGW in GW23 with Covid, Foster returned to the side against Burnley, keeping his and Watford’s first clean sheet of the season. Foster is a great price to be your second goalkeeper and allows you to spend more of your budget elsewhere.

Ismalia Sarr (MF – 5.7M)

Sarr has been out since GW12 with injury, but is the talisman in the Watford team. Sarr made his return to football during the AFCON tournament, including starting in the final. He missed GW24 due to the quick turnaround but played 45 mins in FPL GW25. Roy Hodgson will want to get his best player back into the team as soon as possible. Sarr is first among all Watford midfielders for penalty area touches in the last 6 games (21). He might also be on penalties if he takes them back from Josh King.

Josh King (FW – 5.9M)

FPL DGW26 player to Target ~ King

King has registered an xGI of 2.0 in his last 6 matches, but has only registered 1 return in that time with 1 assist. Until Sarr returns he is on penalties and Watford can count themselves a little unlucky to not be rewarded with a penalty in GW23. King is a nailed starter in the Watford teams often plays 90 minutes. The return of Sarr could improve the supply into King. He is a decent price to be included as your 3rd forward and you can easily bench him for the tougher fixtures.

FPL DGW26 Team to Target ~ Wolves

FPL DGW26 Team to Target ~ Wolves

Wolves are definitely a team to target in terms of their defensive assests. New manager Bruno Lage has made them very tough to break down. Over the last 6 matches Wolves are 8th in the league with an xGC of 6.4. They have only conceded 3 goals, which is the second best. Wolves also have the 6th best defensive data over the whole season. From an attacking perspective things aren’t as rosey for Wolves. They are 16th for xG over the whole season with 27.3 and 15th over the last 6 matches with an xG of 6.6. This makes investing in their attacking assests very difficult.

In the DGW they play Leicester at home and Arsenal away. A closer look at the data of their GW26 opponents shows the fixtues are also mixed. Leicester are a good team to target from an attacking perspective with an xGC of 16.5 across their last 6 matches, which is the worst in the league. Arsenal, however, sit at the opposite end of the table with an xGC of just 4.7 which is the best in the league.

Both Leicester and Arsenal rank highly for xG in their last 6 matches. Leicester with 8.5 and Arsenal are with 12.4.

Now let’s take a closer look at some of the key Wolves players to consider

Jose Sa (GK – 5.2M)

FPL DGW26 players to target ~ Jose Sa

Sa has been in great form this season having been bought in to replace Rui Patricio. He is joint 4th for clean sheets over the season so far with 9, and joint 3rd amongst regular goalkeepers for goals conceded (16). Over his last 6 matches Sa is fifthth for saves made (19) and joint 2nd for goals conceded (3). Not only does he play in a team with a good defence but when called upon he has been making a lot of saves. He is 2nd over the season for bonus points (11).

Conor Coady (DF – 4.7M)

Coady FPL DGW26 players to target

Coady is probably the safest of the Wolves defenders to go for. He is nailed in a back 3 and is the captain of the team, having played 90 minutes in every game so far this season. He offers a small amount of goal threat and has scored 2 goals this season from an xGI of 1.35

Roman Saiss (DF – 5.0M)

If you can afford to spend an extra 0.3M then you should consider Saiss. He is now back from AFCON having missed the last 2 games. He offers more goal threat than Coady and has matched his 2 goals this season (from fewer appearances). Across the season Saiss has an xGI of 2.25 compared to Coady’s 1.35.

Max Kilman (DF – 4.5M)

If you need to make a saving in defence then Kilman is the 3rd of the Wolves back 3. Like Coady he has played 90 minutes in every game this season. He has chipped in with 1 goal and 1 assist and has an xGI 1.21. If you decide to opt for 1 of the Wolves back 3 which one you pick will most likley come down to the amount of money you have to spend

Rayan Ait Nouri (DF – 4.4M)

FPL DGW26 players to target ~ Ait Nouri

The final Wolves pick is left wing back Ait Nouri. He is cheaper than all 3 of Wolves centre backs, and could provide the best chance of attacking returns. Ait Nouri may share game time with Marcal and the returning Jonny, but when he plays he look decent going forward. Ait Nouri has started 3 of the last four games and registered 2 assists in GW22 against Southampton. If you are looking to save some money or take a punt on a Wolves defender with decent upside then Ait Nouri could be your man.

Summary on FPL DGW26 Players to Target

Regardless of your chip strategy double gameweeks always tend to provide good opportunities to register a big score. If you can jump on the right players with favourable fixtures in the DGW’s it will propel you up the FPL ranks quite quickly. Gameweek 26 is the largest DGW so far this season, and although there will most likley be larger DGW’s later in the season, having 8 teams that play 2 fixtures certainly gives us plenty of players to target.

FPL managers can build for FPL DGW26 from as early as GW24. Managers will have either 3 or 4 free transfers to use (depending on whether you rolled in GW23) between now and GW26. Hopefully this article gives you a rounded view of which teams you can target in the next 4-5 GWs
