The Game weeks after the international break are always chaotic and GW5 proved to be the same with lots of rotations and injuries the average score reduced to a mere 52 points with FPL favourite team manchester city losing to norwich affecting the managers who went heavy on manchester city assets, meanwhile forwards continue to impress this season across the various price brackets this season, without a delay let’s look into the five key talking points from GW5.
Talking points from GW5:
- Pep gets played at carrow road
- Misfiring Gunners
- Lampard’s blue army
- Wilson wins it for Bournemouth
- Son strikes for Spurs
- PEP GETS PLAYED AT CARROW ROAD:
The centurions for the first time in the four year under Pep have had rough start to the season. They are already 5 points behind the leaders Liverpool, this the highest point lead any team has had after only 5 games played. The canaries pulled a masterclass against them this week, they scored 3 past Ederson Morales out which two of them where due to defensive errors. To add to Pep’s worries have been doubled with the likes of John Stones is also injured and will not be available for the next. The pairing of Stones and Otamendi has a poor game and Laporte was hugely missed during the game.
On the other hand Pukki party is not showing any signs of stopping, the Finland forward scored one and squared one for Cantwell. Cantwell like Pukki has also caught the eyes of many people, his ability to play both on the right and left has made him one of the must starters in Farke’s side. The youngster is a non stop runner on the pitch and has the ability and intelligence, to take up the space left behind by Pukki.
Pukki has scored 6 and created 10 big chances already this season, a class above everyone
Emi Buendia’s game by numbers vs. Man City:
81% pass accuracy
9 ball recoveries
5/6 successful take-ons
4/9 tackles won
3 chances created
2 assists
4 assists in 3 appearances vs. top six sides
2. MISFIRING GUNNERS:
The pressure is on for Unai Emery at the Emirates, the gunners managed to scrap a draw against Watford, after being 2-0 up in the first half. Arsenal after having a good start to the season, are starting to have problems with their defensive structure again. The signing of David Luiz, a panic buy has done nothing good to the problems they had earlier. The 8 million worth Brazilian has already given away two penalties for the gunners. Adding to this the midfield is not as fluid as they where this time last year. Xhaka (here, we go again) has had an average start to the season, but he still has the problem of reckless decision making in the crunch situation, like the time he gave a penalty against Tottenham with a late challenge in the box.
The under 21 loanie Ceballos had a fantastic game against Burnley but has a not made much of an impact after that and his partner Mesut Ozil is still missing. But, the rise of Matteo Elias Kenzo Guendouzi Olié has been one of the positives, this season.
But, hopes are high among the Gunner faithful with players like Hector Bellerin and Teirney on the brink of match fitness. Their next big game will be a visit to Old Trafford during Gameweek 7

3. LAMPARD’S BLUE ARMY:
Frank Lampard trusted his youth and now they are repaying him in a delightful way. Chelsea decimated Wolves at the Molineaux this weekend, with help of goals from academy Guarduates.
THE RISE OF TAMMY ABRAHAM: Tammy was at his sparkling best this weekend inside the wolves box as he floated in the players and found time and space to put three past Rui Patricio.
But, on the other hand the team is still having defensive problem as they conceded three down the other end, with Tammy getting on the score sheet with an own goal too. The UCL winning side of London will face the European Champions this weekend and it has a the ingredients for a spicy fixture.

4. WILSON WINS IT FOR BOURNEMOUTH:
It is very tough to ignore the impact Callum Wilson has on the bournemouth attack and the numbers don’t lie, wilson has in fact scored or assisted 6 out of Bournemouth’s first 8 PL goals this season, a goal involvement rate of 75%. 33 #FPL points in the first 5 Gameweeks, averaging 6.6 points per game.
The striker secured a 13-point haul and is one of only three players in the entire game to provide attacking returns in every single game this season. At just £7.8m, Wilson has already been transferred in by nearly 35,000 managers and was at his clinical best against the Toffees, scoring twice from two shots. Spearheading the attack as a lone striker against Everton suggests that he will be the Cherries man to get on the end of the potential chances against Southampton, as Joshua King was used as more of a winger on Sunday.
5. SON STRIKES FOR SPURS:
When son scores he just doesn’t end up with one goal but he simply bangs goals as he scored a brace against an helpless crystal palace defense, with kane suffering from a drop off form and almost went missing son stepped up for spurs.
28 more forwards have recorded more shots inside the box than Harry Kane over the past 4 gameweeks. The England forward has attempted just 3 shots inside the box over this period, and that includes a penalty. With the exception of the assist he recorded, he was once again uninvolved in the game against Palace – so much so that even Sheffield United’s keeper Dean Henderson managed to record an xG (expected goals scored ratio) which was double that of Kane’s! 28 more forwards have recorded more shots inside the box than Harry Kane over the past 4 gameweeks. The England forward has attempted just 3 shots inside the box over this period, and that includes a penalty.
With kane’s form a huge concern son well could be a must own option from the Spurs attack
WEEKEND IN NUMBERS:
- No forward has had as many big chances come his way as Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham over the past two gameweeks. The Chelsea forward has 5 big chances to his credit during this spell
- No player in the entire game has created as many chances as Trent Alexander Arnold has over the past 2 gameweeks. Trent created 7 chances in the Newcastle game alone.
- 28 more forwards have recorded more shots inside the box than Harry Kane over the past 4 gameweeks. The England forward has attempted just 3 shots inside the box over this period
- 1 penalty area touch, 1 shot inside the box and no chances created – those stats over the past 2 gameweeks do not make good reading for Burnley’s Ashley Barnes. The Burnley forward was top for big chances and second for shots inside the box after the first 3 gameweeks.
- Man United recorded a clean sheet this weekend too, which was just their second of the season. That’s a bit surprising when you look at it purely from a statistical point of view,
- United’s defensive numbers over the season have been very impressive as they sit best for xGc and have conceded the least amount of big chances too.
- 15 penalty area touches, 8 chances created (including 1 big chance created), 3 shots inside the box – those are the stats recorded by Gerard Deulofeu in Quique Sanchez’s first game in charge against Arsenal. He was the most advanced Watford player on the pitch as well
- Che Adams is the only player in the league who has accumulated at least one big chance in each of the 5 GW’s this season yet has come out with 0 attacking returns to his name. Such level of underperformance is unheard of-surely it’s a matter of time before he breaks this streak!
- Norwich attacking assets continue to impress regardless of the opposition, Pukki and Cantwell have accumulated 2 big chances each over the past 2 games while Buendia is now ranked 3rd for chances created for midfielders over the season
BONUS POINTS TRACKER:
GOALKEEPERS: Pope(108), Lloris(106), Fabianski(103), Gunn(103)
