After an high scoring game week one, normal services resumed in FPL with a few of the big guns failing and some of the pre season favourites going silent for the second week running, meaning that the average Gameweek score reduced dramatically to 41 points. Lets have a look at some of the defining moments of Game Week 2.
1.Pukki party
2.Legend Lundstram
3.Solid everton defense
4.Sadio vs Salah
5.Kdb magic
6.Kane shocker and Martial magic
- Pukki party Norwich City (6.7 mil) :
Having scored against European champions Liverpool in the opening game week, a lot of eyes were on Temmu Pukki ahead of a home game against struggling Newcastle united and the norwich striker didn’t disappoint by scoring a hat trick becoming the first Norwich player to bag a hatrick in the Premier league, bagging 17 points in the process including 3 bonus points. Pukki is a predator in front of the goal having had 10 shots on goal with seven of them on target in the opening two gameweeks which is in fact more than what Sterling has managed!
PUKKI’s price has already increased by 0.2 M and will at least increase once more before the GW3 deadline, with the Chelsea defense looking shakky and norwich creating a good number of chances, Pukki might fancy his chances to keep his scoring record running.
- Most penalty area touches – 15
- Most goal attempts – 10
- Most shots in the box – 10
- Most shots on target – 7
- And of course most goals – 4
If pukki can keep his form going he could well replicate Raul jimenez from last season. If your replacing king or wilson pukki could well be your perfect replacement at 6.7 MIL.
2. LEGEND LUNDSTRAM SHEFFIELD UNITED 4 MIL:
Is he defender or a midfielder?
Well that is not the cause of concern as Lundstram scored and kept a clean sheet to help blades win their first PL game since promotion, scoring 14 points in total with the three bonus the cherry on top for the one’s who started him this week, Lundstram has now scored for blades in all of england’s top four divisions. His numbers prove that he could well be the bargain player of the season .
⭐️ John Lundstram’s numbers against palace:
69 touches Completed 38/43 passes, 5 tackles, 4 clearances, 1 chance created, 2 shots, 1 on target ,Scored 1-0 winner, club’s 1st PL win since April 2007.
His heatmap proves that his goal was no fluke and attacking returns will continue through the season as he is expected to keep his spot in midfield thanks to overall exploits in GW2!
3.Solid Everton Defense!
Everton are the only team to keep consecutive clean sheet this season continuing their impressive defensive record from last season, in fact Everton have not conceded at Goddison park since Feburary and have kept 10 clean sheets in the last 13 games🔥. With pickford facing just 4 shots over the course of two games shows how solid the everton back four have been.
Lucas digne provided attacking returns as well providing the assist for bernad’s goal against watford, Digne was all set for three bonus points but an unfortunate harmstring injury forced him off the pitch meaning he had to settle for two bonus ending the game week with 12 points
With good set of fixtures to come up investing on Everton defense looks like a must and if you’re concerned by the substitution of digne you could well go for Keane or Yerry Mina who looked to have formed a solid partnership and could be a cheaper alternative into the Everton defense.
4.SADIO VS SALAH:
Liverpool is a team that highly relies on its front three to put the back in the back of the net. But, the major dilemma for us FPL managers is whom to choose, Sadio or Salah the RF and LF of the European Champions are highly talented and one of the most priced players in the FPL market.
Lets take a look on how they both have fared last season. Mo Salah had an excellent season scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assist, he was instrumental in Liverpool success last season. But, the problem is Mane the Ex-Southampton winner also scored 22 goals last season. They both had shared the golden boot. But if we take a closer look, each player has their own benefits. Salah is considered be more creative and be second choice on the penalties. But, Sadio is a proven goal threat to any opposition.
Sadio Mane scored his 22 with conversion rate of 52.34% almost scoring with every other shot on goal when compared to the Egyptian’s 34.92%. What Salah lacks in finishing he provides in creativity. The Former Roma winger created 10 goals for his team in the 2018/2019 season, 9 more than the Senegalese.
Mo Salah’s xG (expected goals) is 1.25, which is higher than Sadio’s 1.18. But, for us FPL managers cost also plays an important role in selection of player, here is where we face something like Salah is worth a whopping 12.5 million after the recent rise in price, Sadio will cost you 1 million less at 11.5 million. Both of them seem to have started the season from they left. So, think before you choose.
5. KDB MAGIC:
The ginger head from Belgium is one of if not THE player to watch out for this season in the already over performing Man City team. We all know that Kevin is class above all the midfielders in the Premier League currently and him being fit has increased the chances City hitting the three figure mark again. With an injury hit previous campaign, all odds point towards the ginger pele being the highly successful this season if he can stay fit.
Kevin had an absolutely brilliant game against Tottenham this week. Kevin displayed his class in the 2-2 draw by dropping in between the defense and midfield of the well structured Pochettino side, he was the one who knitted game in the final third and also dictated the pace of play for more than half of the game.
Kevin’s class can be see in the way he picked out Raheem Sterling at the far post with a delicious curve cross and also when he telepathically found Kun Aguero in the middle to with low ball from the right. Kevin registered two assists against the top six side and was shining star in city’s undeserving draw against the London based side. Kevin is dream for any FPL manager priced at 9.6 million, the Belgian is proven talent who is both creative and clinical for the Blue side of Manchester.
6. Kane goes missing and Martial Magic!
Haaarrrrryyyyyy Kaaaaannneee should have passed it to Sterling, the England forward has not been himself after he got injured in the spring of 2019. Harry has seem to have lost the yard of pace after the injury, the ball is not sticking to him when holding up and his movement is literally null. Harry Kane was almost invisible in the game against the defending champions, he managed to win only 2 of his attempted 8 duels and only had one touch in the oppositions box during the game. But, the England captain has always had slow starts to the season and has caught up after the month of August. Priced at 11.5 million he is a pretty highly priced gamble for GW 3
TONY MARTIAL SCORES AGAIN, Manchester United’s french star has had a really good start to the season, scoring against both Chelsea at home and against the highly regarded Wolves at the Molineux Stadium. Martial has scored 2 goals out of the 5 shots he has taken, with a finishing accuracy of 40%, the french-man is a player to look for in the newly built Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side.
Priced at 7.6 million the number 9 is a good option with Manchester United having a favorable run of fixtures coming up
WEEKEND IN NUMBERS:
- KDB created the most number of chances in GW 2 with 9 chances against spurs.
- Sterling had the highest expected Goal involvement (XGI) of 2.71 after gameweek 2, proving to be a better option than aguero
- Todd cantwell had two assists against newcastle united scoring 10 points in GW2
- Mason mount had three shots on target and scored for chelsea against leicester city
- Dean henderson made four saves against crystal palace earning him two bonus points
- Arsenal looked suspect in defence and any hope of increased clean sheet chances this season from their GW1 performance should be put on hold. They allowed Burnley to have 18 shots.
- Sheffield United and Man Utd both had an xGc (expected goals conceded) of just 0.27 over the weekend. Both defences gave up minimal shots inside the box including zero big chances to their opponents
- Man City had the most shots this Gameweek (30) and most on target (10). Surprisingly, despite losing, Aston Villa had the second most shots (22) and fourth highest on target (7).
- Norwich & Sheffield Utd are showing the strengths they were tipped for: Norwich – attack. Joint second most shots on target (13) of all teams across both GWs. Sheffield Utd – defence. Only two teams have conceded less shots. Worth focusing transfers on these areas.
- Selected expected goal (xG) stats for GW2: Kane – 0.01 Crystal Palace – 0.27 Callum Wilson – 0.04 Spurs – 0.13
Bonus point tracker:
Goalkeepers:Pope 52, Pickford 51, Patricio 48.
Pope earned two save points against Arsenal and was close to getting a bonus point as well. Priced at 4.5 mil Pope could well be your set and forget goalkeeper for the season
Patricio is up there atthe BPS thanks to the penalty save against United on monday night.
Defenders: Dunk 62, Peters, Mina, Lundstram (61),
Dunk continues to put in solid performances making him the defender with the highest BPS in the opening two GW’s
Priced at 4 mil lundstram has sent FPL managers into frenzy, playing at the right side of the blades midfield, Lundstram has scored 61 BPS earning 4 bonus points in the opening two weeks
Yerry mina has earned two back to back clean sheet and everton are the only team to have kept a CS in both the games but the everton defense have been lucky with an xGc of 2.18 (with 0 goals actually conceded) is over performing
Midfielders: Kdb 81, Sterling 75, Ndombele 57.
Kevin de bruyne is back to his brilliant best and assisting for fun that reflects in his BPS as well with a great set of fixtures coming up KDB should be must own even if you own sterling too.
Ndombele has so far scored and assisted once in the opening two game weeks earning him 57 BPS which is quite surprising but being a CDM one cannot expect the same output from him throughout the season!
Forwards: Pukki 115, Barnes 80, Rashford 75.
PUKKI became the first player in this season to cross the 100 BPS margin thanks to 4 goals in the opening two game weeks
Priced at 6.5 million barnes is having a solid start to the season scoring against arsenal to add to the brace from the opening gameweek which also earned him a BPS score of 80 over the two gameweeks!
