Players to Target in FPL GW3 from the Manchester United vs Liverpool Fixture(Ranked) - Salah

As the world is taking a break from Premier League football, we at AllAboutFPL feel that this is the best time to reflect on some of the aspects of the game that brings us incessant joy.

Footballers are always a delight to watch- particularly left footed ones. There’s something graceful about them.

According to google, “The research shows that left-footed footballers have the edge over their right-footed counterparts. Players who favor their left foot have inverted brain hemisphere functions, which gives them an extra dose of unpredictability.”

Maybe there is really science behind the grace and slickness of left footed players. The Premier League has been blessed with some amazing players over the years. The likes of Ryan Giggs, Gareth Bale have been inspirational for many.

In this blog, we are going to put out our eleven of Left-footed players from the current crop of players from the Premier League. This is best on the performances of the players during the course of their career and not just this season.

Premier League Best Left Footed 11

Goalkeeper

Ederson

This was the easiest position to pick. It is not often you find keepers who are good as well as entertaining. Be it those crazy long balls, or his nonchalance on the ball under pressure or for that matter the charges outside the penalty area to stop counters, Ederson has been a pleasure to watch.

The ManCity shot-stopper is one shy of a 100 matches in the Premier League and the Brazilian has kept 45 clean sheets and has made a 166 saves. He plays the game with a bit of panache and we love that.

Honorable mentions: Ben Foster, Rui Patricio

Best Premier League Left Footed Defenders

Andrew Robertson

Andy robertson FPL bonus points

Is it possible for a full- back to be impeccable both in attack and defense? Well if Andy Robertson is the name, then it is certainly possible. The Scottish international’s growth to the top has been nothing short of breath-taking.

Since making his debut in the Premier League, Robertson has recorded 27 assists, a tally bettered by no other defender during that time. It shows exactly why he is the best left back in the world, let alone in England.

Marcos Alonso

Marcus Alonso Premier league left footed players

For all the stick Alonso gets for the defensive liabilities, he more than makes it up with his numbers going forward. Marcos Alonso has recorded 20 goals and 12 assists in his career. A vast majority of those coming with his stint at Chelsea. In fact, since his return to the league in 2016, no other defender has been involved in more goals than Alonso.

Aymeric Laporte

It is astounding to think that someone’s absence increases the value of their contribution to a team. At least, it gives the viewers a clear picture.

To put it in numbers, Man City have lost 7 games in the league this season and Laporte has missed every single one of them. Furthermore, City have kept 5 clean sheets in 7 games with the Frenchman in the side and 5 clean sheets in 22 games without him.

In all Laporte has won 44 out his 51 league games. Those are mind-boggling numbers to say the least.

Jan Vertonghen

Jan Vertrongen Premier league left footed players

Old fashioned. No nonsense. Leader. A warrior of sorts. These are some of the things that come to mind if we think of Jan Vertonghen. The Belgian has been a key figure in Tottenham’s renaissance in the last decade.

Vertonghen has made 228 appearances in his career, out of which he has won 127 times. During this time, he has formed a formidable partnership with Toby Alderweireld- a pairing that will go down as one of the best in the history of the competition.

Honorable mentions: Leighton Baines, Patrick Van Aanholt, Ben Mee, Nathan Ake

Premier League Best Left Footed Midfielders

Nemanja Matic

Matic Premier league left footed players

Matic is probably the most underrated player in this eleven. The former Chelsea man has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the last decade. He played a pivotal role in helping the Blues win the title in 2015 and 2017.

The Serbian has attempted 469 tackles in his premier league career of which he has won 70% of them- a percentage which higher than the likes of Kante and Fernandinho. And yet we do not give the Manchester United man the credit he deserves.

In this season too Matic has made a difference. Prior to Matic’s returning to starting eleven in GW 20, United had just kept 2 clean sheets all season. Since GW 20, the Red Devils have kept 6 clean sheets in 10 matches. It is not a coincidence, is it?

David Silva

David Silva Premier league left footed players

Has there ever been a more elegant player in the Premier League than David Silva? It will be a shame to see him leave at the end of the campaign.

Through the course of his career, Silva has recorded 57 goals and 90 assists in 301 appearances. He ranks 7th on the all time lists for assists. He has won 4 league titles along the way. The Spaniard has revolutionized the concept of a ‘Number 10’ in the league, a player who will definitely go into the record books as one of the greatest ever.

Mesut Ozil

ozil Premier league left footed players

Ozil is unique. There is no copy of him. He is the best Number 10 in the world. There hasn’t been a better Number 10 since.

Jose Mourinho on Ozil in 2014

Lackadaisical. Lethargic. Languid. Slow. Some may describe Mesut Ozil with these words. But in our eyes, he is just a true genius. Ozil makes football look so easy. For him, the game of football is like FIFA.

The German has been a great brand to our league. In the 184 games that he has played he has been involved in 87 goals( 33 goals and 54 assists).

Some of the football he played in the 2015/16 season was beyond special. He recorded 19 assists in that season. Only Fabregas, Henry and KDB have had more in a single season.

Honorable mentions: Juan Mata, Bernardo Silva

Premier League Best Left Footed Attackers

Leroy Sane

“Staring down the barrel”- it would be fair to use this phrase for full-backs who are trying to defend when Leroy Sane is breathing down their neck. The German is probably the quickest player in the league.

In his young 85 game career, Sane has already registered 25 goals and 28 assists. He also won the PFA young player of the year award in 2017-18 season. He became the first Man City player to do so in 42 years. We truly hope that he stays in England for many years to come.

Riyad Mahrez

FPL GW26 Differential pick- Mahrez

Phew. Manchester City have a cornucopia of Left footed talents. Mahrez is the 5th player in our line-up from the Citizens. It is a shame that he does not start all the games for Pep’s men. Mahrez has 53 goals and 39 assists in the league.

The winger’s best season came in 2015-16 with Leicester as he helped them win that dramatic title. He also became the first ever African player to win the PFA player of the year award, in the same season.

Mohamed Salah

No eleven can be completed without Mo Salah in it, can it? His numbers speak for himself. 72 goals, 25 assists, 0.64 goals per game in just 113 appearances. Those are numbers that even a world class center forward will be proud of. Hence why he goes into our team as the main striker.

Let us do the numbers once more, shall we?

Salah is second in the all-time list for most goals in his first 100 Premier League appearances for a single team behind only a certain Alan Shearer.

In terms of most goals in their first 100 appearances for Liverpool ,
Salah (70) sits comfortably ahead of Fernando Torres (63), Robbie Fowler (62), Suarez (62), and Michael Owen.

The Egyptian has won the golden boot in each of the last two seasons. No player has ever won it three seasons on the trot. Who dares to bet against Salah to do it this season?

Despite all these astounding numbers, he gets a lot of stick from a lot of people. One can only wonder why.

Honorable mentions: Olivier Giroud, Xherdan Shaqiri
