GW30+ is not yet over and here we are already discussing about FPL GW31+. That’s right there is just 19 hours between the last game of GW30+ and FPL GW31+ deadline. A lot of managers, including me, luckily have our wildcard left leaving us the opportunity to rework our squad by hitting Wildcard ahead of FPL GW31+. In this blog, I’ll be covering the best possible team to choose for the rest of the season by using the wildcard.
What’s the best time to play the Wildcard?
Playing wildcard in GW31+ seemed to be the best option for me as I wanted to attack as much as possible to cover lost ground and I did not want to hold my wildcard until GW33.
We also ran a quick poll on our twitter account to see which wildcard strategy managers are adopting and the responses aren’t surprising with more than half of them going with an early Wildcard in GW31+
So without further ado, here is my wildcard team at the time of writing.
GOALKEEPERS to consider if you’re playing wildcard in FPL GW31+
The goalkeeper choice was a straight forward one for me, I have had Nick pope right through the season as my set and forget keeper and the Burnley Goalkeeper hasn’t disappointed me as he has recorded the second-highest points for a GK this season.
Pope(£4.9M) has also registered the most clean sheets(11) and maximum bonus points for a GK(17) making my GK option for the remainder of the season. Burnley have an amazing run of fixtures from GW31+ till the end of the season with only two fixtures having a DR more than three. I’ll be using Button(£3.9M) as my second keeper for the remainder of the season as I wanted funds to invest elsewhere.
Defenders to consider if you’re playing wildcard in FPL GW31+
I’m not going to mention much about a certain Trent Alexander Arnold(£7.8M), owned by 44% of managers TAA has been in splendid form this season having registered 166 points with 16 attacking returns(2G+14A). I’ll be gladly holding him at least until Liverpool wrap up the season by bringing home the elusive PL title.
Although United did not keep a CS in GW 30+ against Spurs, Manchester United’s defense looked solid and their defensive record has been ever-improving with 50% of the CS coming in the last 6 games and Harry Maguire(£5.3M) has played a key role, the towering CB has helped united keep 4 CS in the last 6 games. Man Utd have the easiest set of fixtures out of all PL teams and a string of CS is definitely around the corner. Now with Bruno Fernandes in set-piece duty, Maguire’s towering presence could fetch a few goals too and he has certainly made his way into my team.
Wily boly(£4.8M) is definitely the one for me from wolves defense. Wolves have kept 5 clean sheets in the last 6 games since boly returned from injury and with a great run of fixtures a wolves defender is hard to ignore and boly seems to be the right pick for me. I’ll be looking to swap TAA to Doherty once Liverpool seals their PL victory and Klopp decides to rotate.
Serge Aurier(£4.9M) has recorded 7 assists in PL this season. The only other defender to has registered more assists this season is TAA. Spurs have an amazing run of fixtures until the end of the season with none of their fixtures above 3 in FDR. Coming in at 4.9 Mil he is one of the most explosive full-backs in that price range. A combination of CS possibility and attacking returns has convinced me to go with him.
Lascelles(£4.3M) has been a solid presence in Newcastle defenses so far this season. Magpies have managed to keep 10 clean sheets this season 8 of which have come under Lascelles’s start. Newcastle are up against relegation fighting teams (Bournemouth, Villa, and west ham) in the next three GWs with two of them being home games. It is to be taken into consideration that Newcastle have conceded the joint-lowest number of goals in home matches in 2019/20. At 4.3 Mil I simply cannot find a better fit to round up my defense.
Midfielders to consider if you’re playing wildcard in FPL GW31+
As always I would be going heavy with my midfield and here are my five midfielders that I’ll be going with ahead of FPL GW31+ deadline
Mohamed Salah(£12.7M) has been ever-present in my team since GW1 till GW29, having removed him for DGW30+ i have brought him straight back. Unlike Mane who played the retire 90 minutes in GW30+, Salah did not get a single minute against Everton and is now a certainty to start against Crystal Palace. This is one of the reasons that I’ll be going Salah over Mane.
Kevin De Bruyne(£10.6M) has been in my team since GW1 and he will continue to do so for the remainder of the season. The Belgian was phenomenal against Arsenal scoring one and assisting one to take home 14 points.
Bruno Fernandes(£8.6M) has registered six returns in as many appearances so far this season. Bruno is on all set pieces and looks likely to share penalty duty with Rashford. United have a great run of fixtures and I would be foolish to ignore him.
In fact, Bruno is up against a weak Sheffield defense without the likes of Dean Henderson, Egan and potentially Jack O’Connell making him a captain choice for GW31+

Spurs’ Son Heung-min (£9.7M) has already registered 9 goals and 9 assists so far this season in spite of the fact he missed few games due to injury. Son has a very low ownership(6.6%) to my liking. Spurs have some exciting fixtures coming up and with Kane not showing any signs of improvement in form, Son will be my choice from spurs attack for the remainder of the season.
Saka (£4.7M) will complete my midfield as my budget enabler, the arsenal youngster started both the games on the wing and registered one assist and hit the woodwork against Brighton and i have seen enough to pick him as my fifth midfielder.

Strikers to consider if you’re playing wildcard in FPL GW31+
Having gone heavy on my midfield I’ll be loading my front three with cheaper options who are expected to play the full 90 rather than going with premium options.
Raul Jimenez (£8.1M) is surely an auto-pick, he is guaranteed to start every game. In fact, he has started all but one game this season, despite all the distractions of the Europa League. The Wolves forward is the third-highest scoring forward in FPL just one point behind Auba who costs 2.9 Mil more, he has already been involved in 20 goals(14 goals and 6 assists) this season, including 25 bonus points.
Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.5M) has been one of the stand out performers in FPL this season, the everyone forward has scored 13 goals so far and offers great value for his price. Everton are up against a Norwich defense who looked woeful and i believe DCL will definitely score a goal or perhaps two against the canaries in FPL GW31+.
My fifteenth and final pick would be Jordan Ayew (£5.2M) Ayew has been phenomenal for palace this season and has scored 9 goals and two assists for the eagles accounting for 40% of palace goals. It’s remarkable how only very few FPL managers consider him.
Here is my FPL GW31+ Wildcard Squad
One’s that i considered for my WC squad:
Matt Doherty (£6.3m) has been phenomenal for wolves and i hate the fact that i have not been able to fit him, James Justin(£4.7m), Holgate(£4.3m) and Marcus Alonso(£6.2m) were the other defenders who were under consideration.
Sarr(£6.3m) and Harvey Barnes(£6.3m) were the ones who missed out from my team. Both of them are great budget midfield options to consider if you’re looking to have one premium forward in your team. Richarlison (£8.3m) also caught my eye, the everyone attacker is the fourth-best scoring FPL midfielder this season and is up against a toothless Norwich defense.
Danny Ings (£7.1m), Tammy Abraham(£7.5m) were the other budget forwards who caught my eyes and are certainly good options to consider having in your team.
