FPL Gameweek 13 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold, & Sell

If you thought FPL was unpredictable, last week just laughed back at you.

Liverpool have gone from heavy metal to heavy meltdown — nine defeats in their last twelve across competitions, a slide no one saw hitting this hard. Man United aren’t far behind, crawling through form with just two points from their last three. Even City — usually football’s cheat code — dropped both their last two games across competitions. Everything we thought we knew flipped.

And then there’s Arsenal.

  • Top of the Premier League.
  • Top of the Champions League group.
  • Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals.

While the giants stumbled, the Gunners marched like a machine.

And in our world of FPL, FPL reflected the chaos — or maybe caused it.

The top 17 most-captained assets all blanked.

Only 3 of the top 20 point scorers were owned by more than 10% of managers (Eze, Muñoz and Enzo!). If you survived the carnage, take a bow. If you didn’t — you’re in the other 98% with the rest of us.

So here we are. A bizarre week behind us, a big one ahead. When nothing goes to script, your decisions matter more than ever.

So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for FPL Gameweek 13, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL Gameweek 13 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

PS – I am assuming everyone has Haaland in their teams. If not, he is your priority buy

Igor Thiago (£6.5m) – FWD, Brentford – 16.9% TSB

FPL GW13 Transfer Tips: Players to BUY - Thiago

Igor Thiago is the biggest FPL story of the month — a breakout forward who has quietly become the most reliable source of points in the game. If you’re still doubting whether he’s the real deal, the numbers scream otherwise.

Since GW9, among ALL forwards, Thiago ranks:

StatRank
FPL Points1st
Goals Scored1st
Goal Involvements1st
Shots on Target2nd
Big Chances2nd
xG2nd
xGI2nd
xPts2nd

He is now the 2nd highest scoring FWD overall this season — and it’s not stopping here. Brentford face Burnley, Leeds and Wolves in the next five, all of which fall into the “attack them” category for strikers. His ownership is climbing rapidly — not having Thiago now may hurt you soon.If there’s a forward transfer this week that balances form, data and fixtures — Thiago is the move.

Morgan Rogers (£6.9m) – MID, Aston Villa – 7.1% TSB

FPL GW13 Transfer Tips: Players to BUY - Morgan Rogers

Morgan Rogers is the hidden gem of GW13 — a player whose numbers are rising just as the fixtures line up perfectly. He faces Wolves next, a defence in complete freefall:

Wolves Defensive RankValue
Goals Conceded20th (worst in league)
NPxGC18th
xGC17th
xCS17th
Clean Sheets0 (only team with none)

They’ve lost 5 in a row, and look mentally and structurally broken. This is exactly the kind of opponent an in-form midfielder can punish — and Rogers is in form.

Since GW6, Rogers has notched up 3 goals + 2 assists.

He’s taking up advanced inside-channel positions, popping up in the box, and linking beautifully with Watkins. Despite starting the season slowly — collecting just 3 points from their first 5 games — Villa have turned the tide in style, now sitting 4th in the table after scoring 14 goals in their next 7 matches (second only to Man City). At just £6.9m, you’re essentially buying a starter in one of the league’s best offences, with form + fixture + role all aligned.

If you’re looking for the next bandwagon before it becomes one, Morgan Rogers is it.

FPL GW13 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD

Virgil van Dijk (£6.0m) – DEF, Liverpool – 26.7% TSB

FPL GW13 Transfer Tips: Players to HOLD - Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk is currently the 2nd most transferred-out unflagged defender, but this might be a case of panic selling more than strategic thinking. Yes, Liverpool have looked shaky — 9 losses in their last 12 across competitions paints an ugly picture — but they’re simply too good a side to keep sinking at this rate. Regression towards stability feels inevitable.

Van Dijk remains central to whatever turnaround happens. As captain, he’s a constant 90-minute man, and his value isn’t limited to just clean sheets — bonus accumulation, set-piece threat, and aerial presence make him a points magnet even when Liverpool aren’t flawless.

And then there are the fixtures.

Over the next 8 GWs, Liverpool face:
West Ham • Sunderland • Leeds (x2) • Brighton • Spurs • Wolves • Fulham

It’s arguably the best run in the league, and if Liverpool are going to click again — this is the window. Jumping off just before a favourable swing could backfire.Verdict: Hold. Give the captain this run — he could punish sellers quickly.

Jean-Philippe Mateta (£8.1m) – FWD, Crystal Palace – 30.2% TSB

FPL Gameweek 13 Transfer Tips: Players to HOLD - Mateta

Mateta is the second-most sold forward this week and, on the surface, the frustration is totally legitimate: three blanks in the last four GWs and five blanks in seven is a rotten run for any striker. But before you trade him out in a huff, take a breath — the fixtures and context suggest this slump may be more temporary than terminal.

First, the fixtures aren’t the problem right now — they’re the solution. He meets Man United next, a defence that has managed only one clean sheet all season, followed by Burnley — a backline currently ranked 20th for NPxGC, xGC and xCS. Those are the kind of opponents who hand chances to forwards, not take them away. In plain English: the pitch is set for Mateta to reappear on the scoresheet.

So hold Mateta at least for FPL Gameweek 13 & 14.

FPL GW13 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL

João Pedro (£7.5m) – FWD, Chelsea – 46.5% TSB

FPL Gameweek 13 Transfer Tips: Players to SELL - Joao Pedro

The Brazilian continues to flatter to deceive — just two attacking returns since GW5 is nowhere near enough for a forward in his price and minutes bracket. Chelsea’s purple patch has faded, and the fixtures turn ice-cold too. In fact, Chelsea rank 17th in Fixture Difficulty Rating over the next five GWs, making Pedro a tough hold.

What makes the decision clearer? Up next is Arsenal — the league’s elite defence, boasting an xGC of just 6.19 (the next best is almost double at 12.9). They also sit top for Clean Sheets and Goals Conceded, meaning chances for Pedro could be rare.

Verdict: Sell him and reinvest the funds into a more explosive pick.

Moisés Caicedo (£6.1m) – MID, Chelsea – 22.8% TSB

FPL Gameweek 13 Transfer Tips: Players to SELL - Caicedo

Caicedo is the second most sold midfielder this week, and it’s easy to see why. Despite being owned by nearly 23% of managers (4th most owned midfielder in the game), the upcoming fixtures offer little relief. Much like João Pedro, he runs into a rough schedule that limits both ceiling and consistency.

More importantly, you have better options at the same price. Minteh has outscored Caicedo 46–31 over the last eight Gameweeks, while also boasting a far more inviting fixture swing. If not Minteh, there’s Doku — who enters a mouth-watering run against Leeds, Fulham, Sunderland (twice), West Ham and Forest in the next seven GWs. Both offer more explosiveness, upside, and form than what Caicedo currently brings.

Verdict: High ownership + low returns + better alternatives = time to move on.
