Welcome to our FPL GW10 Scout Picks blog! Somehow we’re already 25% of the way through the season… Time flies right!? A selection of cup games on Tuesday and Wednesday offer some light mid-week entertainment before the main event, GW10, begins at 15.00 on Saturday.
Our Scout Picks once again had an excellent return in FPL GW9, picking up 58 points! Our selection of Rodon was an inspired pick, if I do say so myself… We extend our lead again to 6.5-2.5 to us going into FPL GW10. Can we make it five in a row, could we?…

FPL GW10 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

Pope (5.2m) retains his spot in the AAFPL Scout picks team as his side face West Ham away in FPL GW10. The magpies beat Fulham more comprehensively than the 2-1 scoreline would suggest. Howe’s side did concede, though, wiping out Pope’s clean sheet but not denying him points altogether; his save points saving him from a blank.
Newcastle remain one of the premier defenses in the league; their xGA of 7.35 is second only to the impenetrable Arsenal, and their 8 goals against puts them joint fifth. 5 clean sheets is only one fewer than league leaders Arsenal, and in only three games so far this campaign have they conceded more than 1 goal (Liverpool, Arsenal, and Brighton).
Pope himself ranks joint second for points scored amongst goalkeepers, behind only Roefs and joint with Raya post GW9. Along with his impressive clean sheet potential, Pope ranks highly (6th) for saves and bonus points (5th) among goalies. Despite these impressive statistics, the Englishman is only the fourth most popular in his position in FPL. This weekend, the Magpies take on West Ham, who are one of the worst attacking sides in the league.

FPL GW10 Scout Picks – Defenders

Guehi (4.9m), Timber (6.1m), and Gabriel (6.4m) form our back three for FPL GW10.
The Arsenal defensive double-up is an obvious choice this weekend, with the Gunners facing Burnley away on Saturday at 15.00. Burnley have the second-worst expected goals and have scored the third-fewest goals in the league. They are pretty much neck and neck with West Ham in the race to be the worst attacking side in the Premier League… That being said, it must be noted that they have scored all 5 of their goals (from 2.82xG) at home.

Burnley are one of the worst attacking outfits in the league and face the best (by far) defensive side in the league in Arsenal. The Gunners’ defensive stats are extraordinary, they’ve conceded the fewest goals, the lowest xG, and kept the most clean sheets so far this campaign – they look impenetrable. Therefore, it seems obvious to us (and just about everyone at this point) that a defensive double up is a good call for this weekend (some are even mooting a triple up!). Gabriel is the first name on the team sheet, while Timber is becoming increasingly essential too. Gabriel is even being touted as a potential captaincy option, so you know it’s serious…

Guehi joins the Arsenal trio in defense with Palace welcoming Brentford to Selhurst Park (also on Saturday at 15.00). Palace boast an impressive defensive record this year, and are one of just 7 sides that remain in single figures for goals conceded. Their attack has gotten all the plaudits so far this year, but their defense should not be slept on!
The Englishman is a nailed-90-minute-man for the Eagles, having had his big-money move to Liverpool fall through at the last minute on deadline day. He has the same number of goal involvements as teammate Munoz, who is seen as a quasi-essential defender for many managers due to his attacking output. Guehi ranks slightly lower than teammates Richards and Lacroix for DC points and CBIT/90, but still averages DC points almost every other game (0.89 DC points/90 so far this season). Brentford are a decent attacking side, but may struggle to break down Palace’s mid-block and preparedness at set pieces.

FPL GW10 Scout Picks – Midfielders

Semenyo (8.0m), Saka (10.0), Minteh (6.0m) and Mbeumo (8.1m) form our midfield quartet for FPL GW10…
Saka, our captaincy choice for this weekend, completes the Arsenal triple-up. The star boy’s numbers have been steadily increasing this season, and he is certainly the best Arsenal attacker in both FPL and in reality. While his season-wide underlying numbers are hovering at around 0.5xGI/90, in his last three games, the winger has averaged 0.84xGI/90, edging his way closer to last season’s high of around 1xGI/90.

Arsenal’s star boy is taking the fourth most shots in his team (400+ minutes) and playing the most key passes, highlighting his role as both creator in chief and goal threat. Saka is outshone by teammate Rice when it comes to points scored so far this season, but the winger is a far more regular points scorer in the long term, possessing a kind of magic that can unlock defenses with one movement and/or pass. Burnley conceded the most xGA and the third most goals, so it’s worth having at least one Arsenal attacker too.
Semenyo naturally keeps his place in the team, in spite of a tough (on paper) trip to visit City in FPL GW10. Semenyo is the highest scoring midfielder in FPL by a substantial margin (over 20 points to the next player). He remains an excellent FPL pick and should be locked in everyone’s teams, considering his price and form thus far this season.
Semenyo has had the fourth most big chances come his way this season (7), but is still overperforming on his underlying numbers. City are a fragile side, as Pep has still not yet found the right combination of players and tactics for this new squad. City have very good underlying defensive numbers, but are so vulnerable in transition, a game state that Bournemouth excel in creating. Iraola’s tactics force possession-based teams into chaotic game states, testing their rest defense constantly and keeping them in transition as much as possible – this chaos will really challenge this evolution of Pep’s City, and Semenyo is sure to benefit.

Minteh comes back into the fray, having disappointed for both our Scout Picks selections (when he has been included) and the managers who put their faith in him following his excellent performances at the start of the season. His numbers remain decent (0.40xGI/90), and he consistently gets lots of touches in opposition boxes. Welbeck is a great pick if you have a forward spot spare, otherwise, Minteh is the next best option!
Brighton face Leeds at home in FPL GW10, a side that thrives when playing at Elland Road but struggles on the road. Leeds have conceded the joint fourth most goals away from home this season (9) and look far more vulnerable without their home support behind them. Minteh will likely be up against Leeds’ attacking full-back Bogle, who ranks highly in attacking stats, but far lower in defensive numbers. Against West Ham, Bogle won under 50% of his duels and was dribbled past twice, he’ll need to be far more solid when facing the electric Minteh this weekend.

Finally, we have Mbeumo. Manchester United face Nottingham Forest in FPL GW10, a side that have faced a troubling time of late with managerial changes, tough results, and a dramatic owner… Forest looked more solid, but far from perfect in FPL GW9, and thus remains a team to target in FPL. United, on the other hand, have looked much improved this season, and have excellent underlying attacking stats (even if they are underperforming them so far). United rank second in the league for xG. You read that right. Amorim’s Manchester United rank second in the league (behind Crystal Palace) for xG…
0.71xGI/90 is exceptional for any FPL asset, but the fact that Mbeumo is averaging such a high number is very appealing for a number of reasons. Mbeumo’s appeal comes from his ability to overperform his xG on a consistent basis, so the fact that his underlying numbers are so good makes him a very, VERY good FPL asset. Bruno is still a solid choice, but Mbeumo’s managed to play himself into a bit of form, so hopping onto the Bryan train might not be such a bad idea…

FPL GW10 Scout Picks – Forwards

A front three of Mateta (7.7m), Haaland (14.7m) and Woltemade (7.5m) complete our team for FPL GW10…
Haaland loses the captaincy to Saka, but should not be overlooked as a potential captaincy option. 18 big chances so far this season, Haaland is a goal magnet and is City’s primary threat in both open play and from set pieces. There have even been questions of late as to whether City are too dependent on Haaland, which, while it may be concerning for City fans, should be reassuring for Haaland owners. Bournemouth are a decent side, but their defensive numbers are nothing special, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Haaland bags another couple at home against the Cherries in FPL GW10.

Mateta has the second-most big chances in the league, trailing only the aforementioned Haaland in that regard. In spite of this, he is only the fifth-highest-scoring forward in FPL so far this campaign, having underperformed his xG substantially thus far. Mateta is actually averaging 0.95xG/90, an astonishing stat which highlights just how much of a threat he is. Palace’s attacks centre on Mateta, and the Eagles have been creating a ridiculous number of chances in the early stages of the campaign.

Palace face Brentford in FPL GW10, and are looking for their first win in four, having lost to Arsenal and Everton as well as drawing against Bournemouth. Brentford are fairly mid-table for most defensive stats, so Palace will likely have no trouble breaking them down considering they have the highest xG and the most NPxG in the league. Mateta and Sarr are both hot FPL picks right now, but considering Mateta didn’t start against Liverpool in the cup (while Sarr did), we’re going for the safer option of Mr Boom Boom Boom.

Finally, we have Big Nick Woltemade. Despite blanking in FPL GW9, we’re sticking with Nick due to his great underlying numbers, the form he’s in, and how fantastic he is to watch! Woltemade has scored 4 goals in his 6 Premier League appearances, blanking only in FPL GW9 against Fulham and GW5 against Bournemouth. 0.71xG/90 is great for a forward at his price, so invest in Wolte stocks asap!
Newcastle face West Ham in FPL GW10, the team that have conceded the most goals and the second most xG in the league so far this season. They’ve looked marginally better in defense under new manager Nuno, but still lack coherence and stability in all phases of the game. Woltemade is Newcastle’s chief goal threat, so he is the obvious choice for FPL managers looking to target this fixture.
