Welcome to another edition of the FPL Captaincy Metrics, as we look ahead to Gameweek 3. Haaland and Bruno, the usual captaincy options, both opened their accounts with huge hauls, especially Bruno. Now that we are in GW3, there seems to be no confusion this week in the FPL community. But what do the Metrics say?

FPL GW3 Captaincy Metrics
Erling Haaland tops the captaincy poll for the first week with a landslide 75% of the votes against Coventry (H). Teammate Rayan Cherki is second with 6% of the votes. Last week’s mega-hauler Bruno Fernandes is third in the captaincy poll this week as he travels to Everton. Liverpool duo Isak and Szoboszlai round up the captaincy picks at fourth and fifth, respectively.

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 3 Captain Picks
For this analysis, we have used GW1 stats of the current season and will be adding stats of every gameweek until GW6. Post GW6, we will revert to the last 6 matches criteria.
Bruno Fernandes tops the table with 4 shots in the box, 3 big chances, and an xG of 2.11 in the season so far.
Aleksander Isak is 2nd with an xG of 2.08 in the season so far. He’s also had 3 big chances and 7 shots inside the box.
Haaland is 3rd with an xG of 1.41 in the season so far. He’s had 3 big chances and has had 9 shots inside the box.
Szoboszlai stands 4th with an xG of 1.01, managing 1 shot inside the box and 1 big chance.
Finally, Rayan Cherki stands 5th with an xG of 0.35, managing 2 shots inside the box and 1 big chance in total.
Underlying numbers of candidate teams
Manchester United take the top spot and have registered 6.60 xG, 11 Big Chances, and 34 Shots inside the box in their opening game
Liverpool are up next with 24 shots inside the box and 4 big chances during the period, and an xG of 4.73.
Manchester City are last with 24 shots inside the box and 9 big chances during the period, and an xG of 4.46.

Fixture Difficulty of the Candidate Team in FPL GW3
In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates.
We will use FantasyFootballHub’s odds for the candidate’s Team’s Expected Goals and the odds of the opposition keeping a clean sheet.
Manchester City are top and have 2.97 xG odds, and their opposition has a 8% chance to keep a clean sheet as per the market odds.
Liverpool are third and have 2.43 xG odds, and their opposition has a 12% chance to keep a clean sheet as per the market odds.
Lastly, Manchester United are last with 1.72 xG odds, and their opposition has a 21% chance to keep a clean sheet as per the market odds

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 3 Captain Picks
In the fourth phase of the article, we have used the Projected Points tool available at Fantasy Football Hub.
Erling Haaland is first with a points projection of 7.9 in FPL Gameweek 3 vs Coventry (H).
Cherki is second with a 5.4 points projection in FPL Gameweek 3 vs Coventry (A).
Bruno is third with 5.3 projected points this Gameweek vs Everton (A).
Isak is fourth with a projection of 5.0 points against Ipswich (A).
Finally, Szoboszlai is last with a projection of 4.7 points in FPL Gameweek 3 vs Ipswich (A).

Erling Haaland is top of the captaincy metrics with a cumulative rank factor of 9. Bruno Fernandes is second with a CRF value of 10 each. Isak is third with a CRF value of 11, while Cherki is fourth with a CRF value of 12. Finally, Szoboszlai is last with a CRF value of 14.
