FPL Gameweek 3 Review

A terrible start right after playing the Wildcard, which usually is the case if you play it early into the season with not much information to rely on. The team looks really good for the long term though, with some really great fixtures coming up for most of the picks and some planned transfers that would maximize the points potential of the team.

44 points is not something to write home about, but fortunately, I did not lose much rank. The FPL community who were on chips suffered mostly, with the FH not returning as much and the TC chips providing a decent 9-pointer with Haaland, but surely they hoped for much more?

Haaland, Gvardiol and De Cuyper were the only ones that returned, everyone else effectively blanked. I picked Gvardiol instead of O’Reilly after Enzo Maresca’s comments about Enzo Fernandez being ready. Although O’Reilly was in the starting lineup, he later picked up an injury in the warm-up, and eventually replaced by Enzo in the starting lineup. That is unlucky for sure for the O’Reilly owners for sure.

Finishing Gameweek 3 at an overall rank of 926k is definitely not the end of the world, especially with how bad the Gameweek had ensued. Anyway, we move on to Gameweek 4, hoping for better returns.

FPL GW4 Team Reveal and Plans

The team looks really solid for Gameweek 4 with triple Arsenal defence against Sunderland away from home. Arsenal have the best implied odds of keeping a clean sheet (47%) in Gameweek 4 in the league for Gameweek 4. The final piece of the defence is Maxim De Cuyper who plays Coventry away from home. Brighton are expected to score 1.91 goals at the time of writing and also have a decent chance (30%) of keeping a clean sheet. Both of these work in favour of De Cuyper as he is still playing as a winger, and hopefully the run does not stop here.

The midfield picks itself as they all have wonderful fixtures this week. Szoboszlai plays Fulham who have a very attacking mindset and leave huge gaps behind their defence. Having set piece and penalty duties also helps against such a side and we could see some returns coming our way. Pascal Gross also plays Coventry away as mentioned above and is also on penalty duties. Cole Palmer has the best fixture this week in an attacking sense, as Chelsea are expected to score 2.87 goals against Hull at home. Another pick who is on penalties and has already scored 2 goals from open play this season, and he is an important captaincy candidate this week. Even though Hull City have keopt 3 clean sheets out of 3 in the league this season, they have still conceded 4.86 xG in those games. Surely, they cannot go on for long with this overperformance, and they would revert to the mean soon enough.

For that reason, I have also planned the transfer of Rayan Cherki to Morgan Rogers (7.6) this week. Having triple attack usually is not my cup of tea, but this one seems to attractive to ignore. This was always the plan and will be executed after all the midweek games are played.

Most Chances created this season:

Rogers Stats(Rank among Midfielders this season):

  • Shots- 9 (Joint 6th)
  • Non Expected Goal Involvement- 2.32 (3rd)
  • Chances created- 10 (1st)
  • xA- 1.14 (3rd)
  • Goal Involvements- 3 (Joint 2nd)

In attack, I am quite happy with Erling Haaland, Joao Pedro and Yoane Wissa. Haaland seems to be even more of a focal point for Manchester City under Maresca than previous years, while Pedro has been in strong form. Wissa’s spot for GW4 in my starting team is a bit uncertain at the moment, considering I have Thiaw, Gvardiol, and Sangare as options. But for now, he is in my team and I am waiting to see for more information during the week to assist me in making this decision.
