Finding value in midfield can often be the key to building a successful FPL squad, and this price bracket is packed with players who could offer exactly that. Priced between £6.5m and £7.5m, these midfielders allow you to free up funds for the likes of Erling Haaland, Bruno Fernandes and other premium assets, while still offering the potential for consistent attacking returns.
There are plenty of strong candidates in this bracket, and although some are safer picks than others, there are also a few exciting differentials that could help you get ahead of the competition early on. As always, these are simply my thoughts based on what we’ve seen so far, and hopefully they’ll give you a few things to think about before finalising your Gameweek 1 squad.

Best Mid-Price FPL Midfielders
Dominik Szoboszlai (£7.0m)
The first player I want to discuss is Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai, who is currently the 2nd most-owned midfielder in the game at the time of writing, selected by nearly 50% of managers.
Last season, Szoboszlai scored 6 goals and provided 7 assists under Arne Slot, finishing on 160 FPL points. He also created 15 big chances, the 4th most of any midfielder in the game, highlighting just how influential he was in Liverpool’s attack. Additionally, he also picked up 20 DEFCON points throughout the campaign.
Liverpool also have an appealing run of opening fixtures against Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, Fulham and Bournemouth, giving Szoboszlai every opportunity to start the campaign strongly.
At £7.0m, I think he offers fantastic value, and it’s no surprise to see so many managers already backing him.
A quick word on Florian Wirtz (£7.5m)
While Szoboszlai is my preferred Liverpool midfielder (at the moment!) in this price bracket, I do think it is worth mentioning his teammate Florian Wirtz.
At the time of writing, Wirtz is selected by just 11% of FPL managers, making him a much more attractive differential than Szoboszlai. Although he scored 125 FPL points last season, averaging a below-par 3.8 points per match, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic ahead of the new campaign.
New manager Andoni Iraola recently described Wirtz as “the complete player” and has spoken about wanting to use him more centrally in the number 10 role rather than out wide. If that remains the case, it could significantly increase his attacking potential, with Wirtz likely to be far more involved around the penalty area.
Both Wirtz and Szoboszlai have already found the back of the net during pre-season, so it is certainly a battle worth keeping an eye on over the coming weeks.
If you have the extra £0.5m available, and you’re the type of manager who likes taking an early-season punt in the hope of gaining an advantage over the competition, then Wirtz could be a very interesting option. His lower ownership means any big returns will have a much bigger impact on your rank than Szoboszlai’s.
Personally, Szoboszlai just edges it for me at the moment because of the value he offers at £7.0m, but Wirtz is definitely a player I’ll be monitoring closely throughout pre-season.

Morgan Rogers (£7.5m)
The next midfielder I want to discuss is Chelsea’s Morgan Rogers. Currently selected by around 31% of FPL managers, Rogers arrives at Stamford Bridge after an outstanding season with Aston Villa and is another player who I think deserves plenty of attention ahead of Gameweek 1.
Last season, Rogers averaged 4.6 points per match, scoring 10 goals and providing 8 assists on his way to 169 FPL points. His impressive campaign earned him a £117 million move to Chelsea, making him the most expensive English footballer in history, and he will no doubt be determined to prove he is worth every penny.
What excites me most about Rogers is how he could fit into Chelsea’s attack. I expect Cole Palmer to continue operating in and around the number 10 role, and I think Rogers has all the attributes to build a really exciting partnership with him. His direct running, physicality and ability to arrive in dangerous areas should give Chelsea another major attacking threat, and I can see him having plenty of opportunities to contribute goals and assists throughout the season.
At £7.5m, I also think Rogers is worth the extra £0.5m over teammate Enzo Fernández. While Enzo is an excellent footballer and can contribute in several areas, I can see Rogers playing in more advanced positions and having more opportunities to deliver the attacking returns we are looking for in FPL.
For me, Rogers is one of the most exciting midfield options in this price bracket. He will be eager to show why Chelsea invested so heavily in him, and if he can continue the form he showed at Aston Villa, he could prove to be an excellent value pick in midfield.
Declan Rice (£7.5m)
The next midfielder I want to discuss is Arsenal’s Declan Rice, who was one of the standout performers in FPL last season but may not feature in as many Gameweek 1 drafts this time around due to fitness concerns. Priced at £7.5m, Rice finished last season with an impressive 184 FPL points, averaging just over 5 points per match. He recorded 4 goals and 9 assists as Arsenal secured the Premier League title, proving that he can offer far more attacking value than many managers may have expected.
One of the biggest attractions with Rice is that he offers points in multiple ways. While he may not have the same natural goal threat as some of the more attacking midfielders in this price bracket, he is heavily involved in Arsenal’s set pieces, particularly corners, which gives him a consistent route to assists and bonus points. He also benefits from DEFCON points, adding another potential route to returns for a player who is already heavily involved in matches. When you combine his attacking contributions, defensive work and ability to complete 90 minutes regularly, it is easy to see why he produced such a strong FPL total last season.
Despite that, Rice is currently selected by just 22% of FPL managers at the time of writing. While that number may not seem particularly low, for a player of his quality and after the season he has just had, it is lower than many would have expected. In my opinion, the main reason for this is the uncertainty surrounding his fitness. Rice has been dealing with a hamstring issue for some time, and Thomas Tuchel revealed during the World Cup that he had been playing through “terrible pain” for England. Despite those concerns, Rice continued to feature heavily, even captaining his country in the third-place play-off against France, where he also found the back of the net.
The positive is that Rice is the type of player who will not want to miss valuable time at the start of the season. He will be determined to get himself ready and hit the ground running, and one of the biggest indicators of his fitness will come when Arsenal face Manchester City in the Community Shield on 16th August. If Rice is involved in that match, especially if he starts, I think we could see a significant increase in his ownership ahead of Gameweek 1. For me, Rice is a player I am very interested in, but his inclusion in my opening squad will depend entirely on how he looks during pre-season.

Manchester City options
Phil Foden (7.0m) and Rayan Cherki (7.5m)
Aside from Antoine Semenyo, whom I covered in my premium midfielders article, there are 3 Manchester City Mid-Price FPL midfielders in this price bracket that I think are worth discussing.
The first is Phil Foden (£7.0m). Selected by just 7.6% of managers at the time of writing, Foden could prove to be one of the biggest differentials at the start of the season. By his incredibly high standards, last season was a relatively quiet one. He still managed 7 goals and 5 assists from just 23 starts, finishing on 131 FPL points at an average of around 4 points per match. Those numbers would represent a decent campaign for most players, but we all know Foden is capable of much more.
Having not been selected in England’s World Cup squad, Foden has had the benefit of a full pre-season under new manager Enzo Maresca. He will also be desperate to prove a point after missing out on the tournament, and I would not be surprised if Maresca looks to build around him. There is even the possibility that he could feature in the number 10 role, although predicting Manchester City’s starting XI has never been straightforward. For me, Foden is a player to watch rather than one to lock straight into your Gameweek 1 team. However, if he gets plenty of minutes during pre-season, he could become one of the best differential picks in this price bracket. It is worth remembering that only 3 seasons ago he scored 19 Premier League goals, so we know the ceiling is there.
One player likely to compete with Foden for those advanced attacking positions is Rayan Cherki (£7.5m). Currently selected by 9.4% of managers, Cherki enjoyed a strong first season at Manchester City, scoring 4 goals and providing 13 assists from just 19 starts. He finished with 135 FPL points and averaged 4.1 points per match, ending the campaign in particularly impressive form.
Unlike Foden, Cherki represented France at the World Cup, so he has had less time to recover ahead of the new season. Because of that, I think the Community Shield against Arsenal on 16 August could be a really useful indicator of Manchester City’s plans. If either Foden or Cherki starts that match, it could give us a much clearer idea of who is ahead in the pecking order before Gameweek 1.
Elliot Anderson (£6.5m)
The final Man City player worth mentioning is Elliot Anderson (£6.5m), who has quickly caught the eye since joining Manchester City. After registering 4 goals and 5 assists for Nottingham Forest last season, Anderson earned a £116 million move to the Etihad, which at the time made him the most expensive English footballer in history. That record, however, lasted only a short while before Chelsea broke it by signing Morgan Rogers for £117 million later in the transfer window.
What makes Anderson particularly interesting from an FPL perspective is his all-round game. While his attacking returns were respectable, it was the additional 52 DEFCON points that helped him reach 180 FPL points, averaging just under 5 points per match.
With Rodri expected to miss the start of the season following minor surgery after the World Cup, Anderson could have an opportunity to establish himself early on. Like many Manchester City players, he has also had a busy summer, but if he can nail down a regular place in Enzo Maresca’s side, he has the potential to become one of the standout value picks in this price bracket.
Nobody scored more Premier League goals than Manchester City last season, which is why I think it is well worth investing in at least 1 City midfielder alongside Erling Haaland. Some managers may even decide on the midfield double up if City start the season strongly.
The eagle-eyed readers amongst you will notice I have not included Jeremy Doku. That is simply because I did not want to overload this section with Manchester City options. At £7.5m, I think Foden and Cherki offer similar if not better attacking potential, while Anderson provides a very different route into the City midfield for managers looking to take advantage of his all-round points potential.

Harry Wilson (£6.5m)
Another player I really like in this price bracket, and one who comes in towards the cheaper end, is Leeds United’s Harry Wilson.
Priced at just £6.5m, the Welsh international looks like he could offer excellent value after an impressive campaign with Fulham last season. Wilson accumulated 168 FPL points, averaging 4.7 points per match, while scoring 10 goals and providing 9 assists. Those attacking numbers are particularly impressive when you compare them with the rest of the midfielders in the game. In fact, only Bruno Fernandes and Antoine Semenyo recorded more goal involvements than Wilson last season, which highlights just how productive he was in the final third.
At the time of writing, Wilson is selected by just 8.6% of FPL managers, making him another excellent differential in this price bracket. If he can carry that attacking form into his first season at Leeds, he could quickly become one of the bargains of the game. The opening fixtures are another reason to be optimistic. Leeds begin the campaign against Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Brighton, Newcastle and Crystal Palace, avoiding any of the league’s ‘big six’ during those opening 5 Gameweeks. That gives them a real opportunity to build some early momentum.
I’m also encouraged by what we’ve seen from Leeds during pre-season. They have already picked up an impressive win over Liverpool, and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin looking to continue the form he showed last season, there should be plenty of opportunities for Wilson to add to his goal and assist tally. For me, Wilson is one of the standout options at £6.5m. His combination of proven Premier League output, favourable early fixtures and relatively low ownership make him a player I’ll be giving serious consideration for my Gameweek 1 squad.

Ismaïla Sarr (£6.5m)
The final player in the £6.5m bracket who has really caught my eye is Crystal Palace’s Ismaïla Sarr.
At the time of writing, Sarr is selected by around 10% of FPL managers after a solid campaign last season, where he scored 9 goals and provided 2 assists, finishing on 117 FPL points. One statistic that really stands out to me is the number of big chances he had. Sarr recorded the 3rd most big chances of any midfielder last season, which shows he consistently gets himself into dangerous attacking positions. If he can become a little more clinical this season, there is every chance he can improve on last year’s returns.
Although he featured for Senegal at the World Cup, he enjoyed an outstanding tournament, scoring 4 goals and registering 1 assist in just 4 matches. In fact, among all Premier League players at the World Cup, only Erling Haaland scored more goals than Sarr, which shows the confidence he will bring into the new campaign.
Crystal Palace also have a fixture run that I quite like. They face Everton, Manchester City, Fulham, Ipswich, Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Newcastle during the opening weeks of the season. While the Manchester City fixture in Gameweek 2 is obviously the toughest on paper, I would still have no problem starting an attacking player like Sarr. As a midfielder, he is always capable of producing a goal or an assist, even in the more difficult fixtures.
Another reason I’m interested is the players around him. Sarr has developed a good understanding with Jean-Philippe Mateta, and with Sapin’s World Cup winner, Yeremy Pino, Crystal Palace have the potential to be a really exciting side going forward.
For me, Sarr is another excellent option at £6.5m. He may not be one of the first names that managers look at in this price bracket, but his combination of attacking positions, favourable fixtures and relatively low ownership make him a player I will definitely be keeping on my radar.

So who should managers pick?
If there’s one thing this price bracket offers, it’s variety. Whether you’re looking for a safe, reliable pick or a differential that could help you climb the rankings early on, there are plenty of strong options between £6.5m and £7.5m.
Looking at my own Gameweek 1 draft, I am probably leaning towards Elliot Anderson (£6.5m) as one of my midfield options alongside Erling Haaland. I am also likely to have a Manchester City defender in my squad, so I think it is unlikely that I go for another City midfielder unless I can justify spending the extra £0.5m or £1.0m on either Phil Foden or Rayan Cherki.
I am also currently looking likely to include João Pedro in my squad, which means I may slightly lean towards one of the Liverpool midfielders over Morgan Rogers. Having players from different teams can be useful in Gameweek 1, and with both Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz offering plenty of attacking potential, they would help me spread my coverage across more teams.
At the moment, my favourite £7.5m or £7.0m option is one of the Liverpool lads, although I will continue to monitor both throughout pre-season before making my final decision. For the £6.5m options, Elliot Anderson is currently the one I am leaning towards most. His combination of DEFCON potential, attacking ability and the possibility of regular minutes at Manchester City make him a really appealing option at that price.
There are still plenty of pre-season matches to be played, fitness updates to come and, knowing FPL, probably another transfer or two that changes everything. That’s half the fun of FPL, even if it does mean rebuilding your team for the 10th time the night before the deadline!
