Best FPL Budget Forwards (£4.5 – £6.0 Million) | 26/27 FPL Season

FPL is back for another year. The Game we all love and hate at various points of the season has launched and now is the time to start tinkering with our Drafts and harbor an ambition of winning the Entire Thing. That is, until Gameweek 1 Starts & most of us realize that dream will have to wait for yet another season. 

This series of Articles will help you to make a strong start in your bid to have a Fantastic Season and who knows – Maybe just accomplish the Holy Grail of winning FPL.

We will be starting by exploring the Best Budget Forwards in the (4.5 – 6 Million price range). Don’t scoff at these guys. Remember this is the Category from which Harry Kane & Jamie Vardy & most recently Kroupi Jr. (whom we highlighted in this very same article last Pre-season) started their FPL Career and we all know what they went on to do in the following years. Even last year, Thiago started at 6 Million and went on to have a brilliant FPL season. So, never underestimate this Price Bracket.

There are currently 54 Forwards classified under this Category and most of them will not even get to play a single minute this season. Identifying the correct ones is the real challenge. That’s where we are here to help. Read on to find out who are the viable options below.

Best FPL Budget Forwards- 6.0 Million Options 

We have 14 Players who are priced at 6 million and most of them are expected to get minutes for their teams. Let’s look at the best options at this price point. 

Igor Jesus – Nottingham Forest

Pros : 

• Has been on fire in Pre-season with 4 Goals in 4 Games. With such good form, Glasner is likely to give him starts at the beginning of the season.
• Versatility as he can even play behind the striker or up top.
• Had a decent debut campaign with Forest, where he scored 6 Goals and 6 Assists in the League last season. Also got 7 Goals in the Europa League.

Cons : 

• Forest have a wealth of options up top with Chris Wood, Awoniyi and Kalimuendo all in the Forest squad.

Dominic Calvert Lewin – Leeds United

Pros : 

• Coming off a solid season with 14 Goals and 2 Assists, DCL looks to be getting back to his best. He had the 3^rd best xG among Forwards last season, only Haaland and Thiago had more..
• DCL was ranked 4^th best for Shots on Target and Shots in the Box among Forwards last season. 
• DCL is also in line for penalties and has a solid start to the season as Leeds do not face any of last season’s Top 7 until Gameweek 6.

Cons : 

• His injury record is always a concern as he could break down at any moment. He did get over it last season but the jury remains out.
• DCL is known in the community for being an underachiever as he often misses Big Chances and frustrates FPL managers. Also a very streaky player as his goals tend to come in batches. The important part is to get on DCL at the right moment.

Brian Brobbey – Sunderland

Pros : 

• It took some adjusting but Brobbey eventually became Sunderland’s Central Striker. He scored 7 Goals and got 2 Assists and had a good World Cup where he scored 3 Goals against Sweden & Tunisia.
• The 1^st 3 Fixtures look solid with games against newly promoted Ipswich, Arbeloa’s Fulham and finally against Brentford. With confidence in his stride, he could get off to a flyer.

Cons : 

• He is certainly not on penalties as Enzo Le Fee takes them for Sunderland.
• Also, Sunderland will be playing in Europe which could lead to more rotation and perhaps even adding more Forwards to the team. Finally the 2^nd season is where the Promoted teams tend to struggle even more.

Evanilson – Bournemouth 

Pros :

• With Kroupi out injured, Evanilson looks to be assured of his starting spot, unless there is a dramatic loss of form. Even in a largely underwhelming season, he still managed 6 Goals and 7 Assists last season.
• Bournemouth’s high intensity football suits him and presents him with regular good chances. That is reflected in the stats as he received the 2^nd most passes inside the penalty box (87) and had the 3^rd most shots from the 6 yard box (15) among all players in the League.

Cons : 

• The worrying part is Evanilson’s conversion rate which is only 8.6% and his shot accuracy which is 38.6%. He ranks 2^nd in the League for xG underachievement (-4.59).
• He is also not on penalties and with European games this season, the Bournemouth squad may get stretched beyond its limit. 
• Marco Rose in the Premier League is an unknown commodity and with Bournemouth’s horrible fixture run to begin the season, he is a Wait & Watch FPL pick for now.

William Osula / Nick Woltemade / Yoane Wissa (The Toon Army) – Newcastle United

Pros :

• Newcastle have a great run of fixtures from Gameweek 3 with games against Hull & Coventry in Gameweeks 5 and 6. Woltemade started really strong but tailed off at the end. He scored 8 Goals and got 4 Assists. Osula on the other hand finished the season strongly with 5 Goals in the last 7 Games. Wissa had an injury ravaged campaign.
• Newcastle tend to perform much better in seasons with Europe and with only 1 Game a week for most of the season, whoever nails down the striker spot could have a good haul of points especially after Gameweek 3.

Cons : 

• Uncertainty with Eddie Howe’s departure which could mean that all 3 are an avoid for atleast the initial few Gameweeks of the season. Newcastle have also lost Gordon and may lose Bruno G, which leads to a situation where they are going back to mediocrity than going in the right direction.

Dominic Solanke / Richarlison (The Spurs Duo)

Pros : 

• Spurs are on a high now. After making some amazing signings, Spurs look to be targeting a return to European competition this season instead of fighting relegation. 
• Add to the fact that De Zerbi is known for his attacking brand of football which should help the Spurs striker get a good quality of chances. Returning creative players such as Maddison and Kulusevski will only make the Spurs team stronger this season.
• Solanke, if fit is a proven goal-scorer while Richarlison can always handle the pressure, as he has a strong character. Even during a relegation season, he scored 11 Goals and grabbed 4 Assists. He did the same for Everton few seasons back and will cherish playing under De Zerbi, who himself is a dynamic character.

Cons : 

• Both the strikers suffer from fitness concerns which makes investment risky. 
• The best option is to wait initially and assess who is the starting striker before jumping on Spurs assests in Gameweek 7. That is when Spurs have a great run of fixtures.

The Rest of the 6.0 Million FPL Forwards:

• Gabriel Jesus – Arsenal – Linked with a move to Serie A and currently 3^rd Choice Striker at Arsenal.
• Alvaro Rodriguez – Bournemouth – Backup to Evanilson and mostly should play the European games at the beginning of the season.
• Danny Welbeck – Chelsea – Backup option to Joao Pedro. Not too many minutes expected at the beginning of the season.
• Strand Larsen – Crystal Palace – Backup option to Mateta. Will struggle for minutes at the beginning of the season.
• Chris Wood – The only genuine option who stands a chance of starting week in and week out. However, considering Igor Jesus’ form and his age, Glasner may initially opt to utilize him from the bench.

Best FPL Budget Forwards- 5.5 Million Options 

We have 19 Players who are priced at 5.5 million and most of them are expected to get some sort of minutes for their teams. Let’s look at the best options at this price point. 

Oli McBurnie – Hull City

Pros : 

• Hull’s focal point going forward, McBurnie scored 18 Goals and got 7 Assists in the Championship, despite being injured for around 2 months of the season. He had 76 Shots and 37 key passes. He overachieved his xG quite a lot as he had close to 12 xG. Perhaps a sign of his clinical finishing which has improved over the years.
• He is on penalties and could be a nice 3^rd option when Hull’s fixtures improve after Gameweek 6.

Cons :

• The supply line will be a concern in the Premier League as Hull are yet to spend big on any good signings so far. Hull’s attacking data was not promotion worthy and things will only get tougher in the Premier League.
• McBurnie has only scored 13 Goals in the Premier League playing for Sheffield United in 3 seasons. However he was not the main man back then, something which has now changed at Hull. Could that lead to a better season? Only time will tell.

Thierno Barry / Beto (The Twin Toffees) – Everton

Pros : 

• Barry & Beto shared minutes throughout the season as Barry had 21 starts and scored 8 Goals while Beto has 17 starts and scored 9 Goals. Barry should be the one starting the season but only a good spell of form will keep him in the starting 11.

Cons :

• Lack of guaranteed minutes. None of them are on penalties as KDH could be the next in line to take penalties if Ndiaye leaves the club.
• Everton’s lack of attacking signings and conservative approach under David Moyes.

Georginio Rutter / Charalampos Kostoulas – Brighton

Pros :

• With Welbeck leaving, it seems 1 of Rutter or Kostoulas will be starting as the Main Striker for Brighton, unless they buy someone new entirely. Rutter has the advantage because of his experience in the League and age. He scored 3 Goals and had 5 Assists from 20 starts last season. Kostoulas started only twice and scored 2 Goals and got 1 Assist.

Cons : 

• Rutter is not a proper striker while Kostoulas is young and raw. There is a high chance Brighton invest in someone who is a proper striker before the transfer window closes. 
• Brighton also play Villa, Chelsea and Arsenal in the 1^st 5 Gameweeks, so the best option would be to assess and revisit them later when the fixtures ease up.

Haji Wright – Coventry City

Pros : 

• The Main Man for Coventry, Wright scored 17 Goals last season in 40 Games. He is expected to lead the line at the start of the season. Coventry actually begin the season quite well if you exclude their games against Arsenal & City in Gameweeks 1 and 3. 
• Again another Penalty taker at that price with good minutes is ideal for a 3^rd Forward option. He can easily be played in Gameweek 2 if one is looking to Bench Boost. He also had the best xG in the Championship last season.

Cons : 

• Coventry are returning to the Premier League after a gap of 25 years. That always puts huge pressure on the players who are basically unproven at this level. 
• Although Wright is Coventry’s main man, both his positional rivals Ellis Simms and Brandon Thomas Asante got 10+ goals each in the Championship as well. Any loss of form could lead to him being replaced from the starting 11.

Rodrigo Muniz – Fulham

Pros :

• With Jimenez gone, Muniz will surely have a bigger role to play at Fulham this season. Limited to just 10 Starts last season, Muniz scored only a single goal and got 1 Assist last season. Expect that count to be much higher this season as Muniz begins the season as the Central Striker for Fulham.

Cons :

• Departures of Wilson & Jimenez will decrease Fulham’s attacking threat. Plus this is not Marco Silva’s Fulham anymore. Arbeloa enters the League as 1 of many new managers and Fulham may take some time to gel under him.
• Lack of penalties for Muniz and also growing rumors of Arbeloa trying to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia for Fulham. 

The Rest of the 5.5 Million FPL Forwards:

• Tammy Abraham – Aston Villa – Linked with a move away and also currently injured.
• Enes Unal – Bournemouth – Linked with a move away from the League.
• Callum Wilson – Brentford – Backup to Igor Thiago. Substitute duty beckons.
• Stefanos Tzimas – Brighton – Currently injured.
• Liam Delap – Highly likely that he leaves Chelsea for some other club on loan.
• Eddie Nketiah – 3^rd Choice Forward behind Mateta & Strand Larsen.
• Emersonn – Interesting signing but may have his minutes managed initially.
• Lukas Nmecha – Bench duty & occasional starts.
• Joshua Zirkzee – Way behind Sesko. Carrick prefers playing Cunha/Mbeumo up top than Zirkzee.
• Taiwyo Awoniyi – 3^rd Choice striker behind Jesus and Wood.
• Arnaud Kalimuendo – 4^th Choice striker at Forest.
• Wilson Isidor – Could likely start the European games while Brobbey plays the Premier League games.

Best FPL Budget Forwards- 5.0 Million Options 

We have 10 Players who are priced at 5 million and most of them would be non options in the Premier League this season. Lets look at some who can play a part in our FPL seasons.

1. Ellis Simms – Coventry City – Scored 13 Goals and got 1 Assist in the Championship last season. Handy option to come off the bench with his physicality should Lampard need it at the beginning of the season.

2. Brandon Thomas Asante – Coventry City – Same attributes as Simms. Scored 13 Goals and got 4 Assists in the Championship last season. Can also play on the right wing if needed.

3. George Hirst – Ipswich Town – Ipswich’s main striker last season. Scored 11 Goals and got 3 Assists last season. Could be pushed down the pecking order in the Premier League.

Best FPL Budget Forwards- 4.5 Million Options 

We have 11 Players who are priced at 4.5 million and pretty much all of them are non options in the Premier League this season. Most of them would be loaned out to other Leagues. There are no options to discuss in this category this season so far.

Best FPL Budget Forwards(4.5-6.0)

Rankings – 

Pre-season will also tell us more about any other hidden gems. But for now, in the Budget Forwards, my Top 3 ranking would be –

1. Igor Jesus (6)
2. Dominic Calvert Lewin (6)
