FPL Gameweek 1 Review
After deliberating all week and being set on going with a Haaland draft until Thursday, I shifted to a non-Haaland draft and decided to be aggressive on the chips. Bench Boost chip was always active for GW1, and I distributed funds all across the 15 players to get the most out of it. It’s always subjective to extract the points derived out of just Bench Boosting when you have purposefully spread the funds, I would still look at it as a 12-pointer, as these are the players I would have benched if not for the BB chip.
67 points on a Bench Boost is not worth writing home about, but as it was a low-scoring Gameweek. As a result, I am 787k in the overall rankings right now. The aim is to stay inside the 1 million mark by Gameweek 10 and to finish the season inside the top 10k.
Manchester United triple up and Bruno captaincy disappointed as they lost 2-0 away to Hull, when it was one of the top 3 fixtures to target. Nico O’Reilly could have had returns but ended up with a blank, Gross should have had a penalty, but the referee showed mercy to Aston Villa, resulting in a blank for Gross as well. I would call these instances unlucky, and the picks are definitely more than fine for the short or medium-term. The double up on Liverpool with Isak and Szoboszlai almost disappointed me, until a last-minute penalty was taken and converted by Szoboszlai. It looks like he is set to be on penalties for now.
Meanwhile, the success stories are the Arsenal triple-up (20 points) and Joao Pedro (11 points). Rodon and Verbruggen brought the clean sheets home as well.

FPL GW2 Team Reveal
The plan in GW2 was always to save the FT after picking a strong squad. I have a massive benching headache this week, and you could arguably play all 15 players this week. Some tough decisions to be made, especially with the selection of defenders. I am definitely not comfortable benching Calafiori and even Rodon, who could yet give returns against Brentford at home. Also, the deadline for GW2 is Friday evening again, we might have some leaks with respect to Nico O’Reilly starting. If we get enough leaks to suggest that he is playing in a pivot role rather than in the front line of attack as last week, I would be tempted to bench him for Calafiori.
The front line picks itself up, and I am happy to go into GW2 with double Manchester United attack. The Red Devils did not look great, however, they would be playing Ipswich at home, and I see their performance/result from GW1 as an anomaly.
Important note: I would be playing a chip in GW3 (Free hit or Wildcard), which I am yet to decide on. That picture would be clearer at the end of Gameweek 2 for me.
For captaincy, I am sticking the armband on Bruno Fernandes again this week. Surely he does not blank again. Surely, right?
