This week, every FIFA fantasy manager has four free transfers to strategize on bringing in the best assets with the most favourable fixtures. In this article, we’ll analyze which players are worth selecting and also highlight a few differential picks likely to bring in scouting bonus points.

With Matchdays 1 to 4 coming to a close, we are now at the midway point through the contest with only four more gameweeks left, including the final at MetLife Stadium, New York, USA. The knockout stage is in full gear, and with that comes an exciting set of big-game matchups soon.
It is safe to presume 70-80% of FIFA Fantasy managers have activated their wildcard boosters at this stage. Thus, we’ll be tweaking our approach in covering our weekly team recommendations from a position-to-position standpoint to a more grounded overview.

Top Performers from Matchday 4
In defence, Spain’s Marc Cucurella ($5.1m) finished with 13 points for his two assists provided as he helped Spain secure a 3-0 victory against Austria; meanwhile, his teammate, Pedro Porro ($5.5m), surpassed him with a goal scored, kept a clean sheet, earned scouting bonus points for his 4.1% ownership and earned 16 points.
Despite France’s Michael Olise ($9.5m) finishing with 10 points for his two assists against Sweden, it was Belgium’s Youri Tielemans ($6.1m) 18-point haul who finished as the top-scoring midfielder, winning a penalty and scoring twice in the 3-2 comeback victory against Senegal.
While for the forwards, France’s Kylian Mbappé ($10.5m) and Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal ($8.1m) tie on 14 points, with each player scoring a brace in Matchday 4.
Fantasy Tips: Top Teams To Target
Target Spain, France, and Morocco Assets
Spain and Portugal have faced off 10 times in their previous head-to-head clash, drawing six times in international friendlies. However, the most prominent result from the 2018 World Cup was the 3-3 draw where Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick for Portugal. Although the 41-year-old scored a crucial penalty goal against Croatia in Matchday 4, his goal threat is not as lethal as it used to be, having only one touch in the opposition’s box.
Portugal have only kept one clean sheet in their opening four matches, while Spain is yet to concede a goal. With an in-form frontline of Mikel Oyarzabal, Alex Baena, and Lamine Yamal, Spain are favourites to knock out the 2025 UEFA Nations League champions.
France leads the stats rankings for most goals scored (13) and definitely will not struggle to break down their next opponent, Paraguay, who have only scored twice in this contest. 2026 World Cup co-host Canada will be playing their first-ever Round of 16 match against Morocco; however, based on their previous two meetings in 2016 and 2022, the Atlas Lions came out victorious and are favourites to make it through to the quarter-finals.
As a result, with just four transfers available, we recommend to our readers to select either one of France, Spain or Morocco’s assets, especially if you’re planning to activate either one of your qualification booster or clean sheet shield. Additionally, at this stage, you can bring in at least four players from one team; thus, we highly advise going all-in on Les Bleus’ attack 🇫🇷.

As it stands, Kylian Mbappé is the second leading goal scorer in the 2026 World Cup, having produced eight attacking returns (6 goals and 2 assists). Scoring twice in the previous game against Sweden, the 27-year-old captain now has 104 goal contributions in 102 caps for France. Outstanding!
Mbappé is definitely a must-have asset to have throughout the tournament and could tank your current ranking if you drop him for another forward.
Michael Olise ($9.5m) v. Paraguay | TSB – 36.1% ownership
Having amassed the most expected assists of 2.19 xA in the World Cup, Michael Olise has created 10 chances and leads the charts for most assists (5). The Bayern Munich forward created three big chances and completed 21 line-breaking passes in Matchday 4, piercing through the opposition’s defence with ease.
The 24-year-old is yet to score his first World Cup goal but came close to breaking the ice with an attempted overhead kick against Sweden, and Matchday 5 clash against Paraguay could be the perfect moment for Olise to shine.
Lionel Messi ($10m) v. Egypt | TSB – 50.8% ownership
In a nerve-racking game against Cape Verde, Argentina had to push until extra time before securing victory. Messi scored the opener and now leads the goal charts, extending the all-time World Cup goal record to 20.
The 39-year-old forward was electric for Argentina in Matchday 4, having created three chances, had nine shots taken and was given the Man of the Match award. Looking at the stats, Messi has now scored in eight consecutive World Cup matches. Absolutely incredible!
Messi being predominantly on penalties and free kicks gives him an advantage over other forwards, as he can produce a big-game moment against his opponent. Can the Argentine legend score against Egypt and extend his goal-scoring streak in Matchday 5? Only time will tell.
Achraf Hakimi ($6m) v. Canada | TSB – 25.9% ownership
In 120 minutes played against the Netherlands, Achraf Hakimi had the most shots taken (3) and created the most chances (3) than any player in Matchday 4. The Atlas Lions’ captain has created the most chances (14) for a defender in the World Cup, only second to Belgium’s Leandro Trossard (16).
Given Morocco’s 100% win record against Canada in their head-to-head clash, we can expect Hakimi to be a key factor in aiding his nation qualify and a huge prospect for attacking returns as he shares in set-piece duty.

Marc Cucurella ($5.1m) v. Portugal | TSB – 33.1% ownership
Two assists and another clean sheet secured, Marc Cucurella was superb in Spain’s 3-0 victory. The 27-year-old Spaniard came close to scoring his first World Cup goal, but unfortunately it was ruled off due to a foul on the opposition keeper.
Cucurella’s 1.1 xA (expected assists) is only second to Pedri’s 1.5 xA, since he is largely involved in forward runs in the opposition box, occasionally posing as the fourth attacker when Spain transitions to attack. He is now the highest-scoring defender in FIFA Fantasy, with 37 points, and is an essential asset to have until the final.

Best Matchday 5 Wildcard Team
2026 FIFA Fantasy: Matchday 5 Top Three Differentials
- Spain: Álex Baena ($6m) created five chances in Spain’s 3-0 win against Austria and produced an assist for Pedro Porro’s goal. The Atletico Madrid forward now has two attacking returns in his last two matches and gains an advantage on sharing set-pieces (corners and direct free kicks) for La Roja. At 0.5% ownership, he is a solid differential pick for the game against Portugal.
- USA: Fulham defender Antonee Robinson ($5m) earned nine points in Matchday 4, following a solid defensive performance against Bosnia, in which he made 10 defensive contributions and had one chance created in attack. With only 3.3% ownership, he is one to look out for this weekend.
- Mexico: The 29-year-old Aztec forward, Julián Quiñones ($5.6m), has been a big-game player that Mexico can rely on in this contest. Quiñones now has four attacking returns (3 goals, 1 assist) in the World Cup for his nation and will be eager to pounce on England’s right-back issues, with Reece James sweating for fitness and Djed Spence filling in that position for the Three Lions.
