Matchday 1 was sensational and full of huge wins as Germany defeated Curaรงao 7-1, and the USA’s 4-1 victory against Paraguay became a new goal record scored by the Americans in the World Cup, while World Cup debutants Cape Verde held Euro 2024 winners Spain to a goalless draw.
However, if your team scored below average, you have the window to press “Reset” with the Wildcard booster to outpace your mini-league rivals. Listed below is a new lineup of 15 players with the potential to score over 100 points in Matchday 2, as well as an additional set of differentials who could aid with the scouting bonus system.
Note: As of writing, Groups I, K, J, and L are yet to play their opening fixtures; thus, we’ll be using estimated projections from our World Cup 2026: Interactive Table piece along with stats surrounding most shots, most touches in the opposition box, chances created and defensive contributions.
Goalkeepers
Mexico’s keeper Raรบl Rangel ($3.9m) secured a clean sheet in the Aztecs’ opening game against South Africa, making two saves and earning seven fantasy points in Matchday 1. Rangel comes in as a budget enabler but will be properly tested against the Korea Republic, who produced 15 shots against in their 2-1 victory over Czechia.
According to our projections, France’s 0.55 xGA (expected Goals Against) is the lowest among the 48 participating nations. This pits No. 1 goalie Mike Maignan ($5m) as a must-have pick to secure a clean sheet against Iraq.

Defenders
Germany’s Nathaniel Brown ($4.7m) had a fantastic World Cup debut, as he both scored and provided an assist against Curaรงao, producing 14 points for fantasy managers who got him in Matchday 1. In a player pool of premium defenders, Brown provides a cheaper route into the DFB team’s defence with a high likelihood of producing attacking returns.
Czechia’s first goal of the competition was scored by Wolves Wanderers defender Ladislav Krejฤรญ ($4.4 m), and it was, naturally, a well-executed set-piece goal. As of writing, eight different teams have scored a handful of goals from set pieces. We may perhaps count on Krejcรญ to take advantage of South Africa’s poor attacking numbers as Czechia try for their first win in Group A.
Brazil largely struggled to find their rhythm against Morocco in Matchday 1, with Gabriel Magalhรฃes ($5.5m) chasing the tail of Ismail Saibari, who scored the opener for the Atlas Lions. Despite this, Arsenal’s defender Gabriel made nine defensive contributions and was efficient from clearances and duels won. We can expect the Brazilian to redeem himself and keep a clean sheet against Haiti.
Back to attacking wingbacks, Marc Cucurella ($5.1m) was phenomenal against Cape Verde, making seven touches in the opposition box and creating 0.44 xA (expected assists). The Spaniard excelled in tracking back for ball recoveries and will be important in La Roja‘s next game against Saudi Arabia, as they push for their first win in Group H.
Another exceptional defender to take into account when England plays Ghana this week is ex-Chelsea teammate Reece James ($5.2 m), who will be a formidable asset for attacking returns down the right flank and brings a wealth of experience to the Three Lions.

Midfielders
“The Turkish Messi”, Arda Gรผler ($7m), was incredibly unlucky not to either score or assist in Tรผrkiye’s 2-0 defeat against Australia. Guler had the most shots (8) taken and the most touches in the opposition box (9) along with two chances created. One key area where Guler stands out is he is predominant in taking corners as well as direct free kicks from the right side. Facing Paraguay next, the 21-year-old Turkish international will not miss his window to get on the scoresheet in Matchday 2.
Vinรญcius Jรบnior ($10m) was the difference maker for Brazil as they snatched a draw against Morocco in Matchday 1. The Real Madrid superstar had the joint-most touches (5) in the opposition box, scoring his 10th goal in 50 caps for Amarelinha. Vini’s new form, confidence plus guaranteed minutes, makes him a must-have versus Haiti.
Morocco largely operates without a traditional striker, and the Atlas Lions’ head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, puts his confidence in Ismail Saibari ($6.8m) to lead the attack. Scoring a lobbed effort against Brazil, Saibari, who is classed as a midfielder and playing out-of-position, makes him a more appealing pick compared to teammate Brahim Diaz ($6.4m).
Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes ($8.5m) will be facing World Cup debutants Uzbekistan while France’s Michael Olise ($9.5m) plays against 57th-ranked nation Iraq in Matchday 2. Both players who dominant in providing assists for their respective clubs over the 2025/26 season will must-have assets to own on your Wildcard team

Forwards
Arsenal’s Kai Havertz ($7.8m) was outstanding in the 7-1 win against Curaรงao, scoring a brace and totalling 13 points in Matchday 1. Havertz has now scored four goals in his previous three outings for Germany and will be looking to continue his streak of form in their upcoming matchup against Cรดte d’Ivoire.
The Three Lions’ skipper, Harry Kane ($10.5m), is a record breaker and has his eyes set on Gary Lineker’s 10 goals scored by an Englishman in the World Cup, as he is currently only two goals away. We might just see Kane break that record against Ghana in Matchday 2.
Update: As at 17th June, 2026, Harry Kane has now equalled Gary Lineker’s goal record with a brace scored against Croatia.
Speaking of records, the USMNT recently broke their own World Cup record for most goals scored in a match against Paraguay as New York-born forward Folarin Balogun ($6m) scored twice to aid the co-host in winning their first game. Balogun had the most touches (10) in the opposition box and came close to scoring a hat trick. Brimming with confidence and taking on Australia, Folarin could nick his third goal of the contest and help the USA secure six points to top the group.

Where is Lamine Yamal? No Mbappe or Raphinha? Before you raise your pitchforks, remember we only have $100m and we cannot have them all. The only way to fit in those big names would be on your 12th man booster, if available.
With that in mind, this template should only serve as a guide on which direction to take going forward. Feel free to make your own changes where necessary and add your preferred selection.
FIFA World Cup Fantasy 2026: Matchday 2 Differentials
- USA: In their victory against Paraguay, Christian Pulisic ($7m) and Sergino Dest ($4.3m) played as wingers running down the flanks. Through Pochettino’s counter-pressing gameplay, both players combined for 10 touches in the box and could make a difference against Australia.
- Spain: Completing 86/99 successful passes and registering 1.23 xA (expected assists), it is largely bewildering to see Pedri ($8.1m) walk away without an assist against Cape Verde. I believe the Spaniard will be a key contributor for his nation against Saudi Arabia.
- Turkey: Ferdi Kadioglu ($4.3m) created five chances for Tรผrkiye in the opening game against Australia and could be a solid differential pick/budget enabler on your wildcard chip.
- Ecuador: Keep an eye on budget enablers Piero Hincapiรฉ ($4.7m) and veteran striker Enner Valencia ($5.9m), as the Ecuadorians face a defensively leaky Curacao team.
- Egypt: Although Mohamed Salah ($10m) is somewhat overpriced. The 34-year-old provided an assist and helped the Pharaohs secure a draw against Belgium; there is a high margin for fantasy points in Egypt’s next two fixtures against Iran and New Zealand.
