Welcome to our FPL GW36 Scout Picks blog! Another Double Gameweek is upon us, and it’s Manchester City and Palace that play twice in this round of Premier League fixtures. With just 3 gameweeks left until the end of the season, this DGW is a great opportunity to play any chips you have left eg. bench boost or triple captain!
Our Scout Picks team’s total of 47 was just short of the Official Scout Picks score of 59 in FPL GW35. We go into FPL GW36 3 points behind….

FPL GW36 Scout Picks
FPL GW36 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

Verbruggen (4.5m) is our goalkeeping choice for FPL GW36 as Brighton welcome Wolves to the Amex this weekend. Wolves have been officially relegated for a few weeks now, but have sat at the bottom of the Premier League table for much of the season. Edwards is now being booed on a regular basis by the Wolves faithful and has failed to pick up a win as manager since 3rd March. Wolves have scored just once in their last 4 matches in the Premier League, failing to accrue 1xG worth of chances in three of those matches.
Wolves attack this season:
- 20th for Goals
- 20th for xG
- 19th for Shots
- 19th for Shots on Target
- 20th for Goals per SOT
Brighton, on the other hand, have been in good form lately, winning 4 of their last 6 matches and losing just once (admittedly against Newcastle in FPL GW35). Across that period, Brighton have managed to keep 3 clean sheets with Verbruggen ranking third amongst goalkeepers for points in that time (GW30-GW35). Van Hecke will also be a popular pick for this fixture – a Brighton defensive double up should definitely be considered – but we’ve gone for Verbruggen in FPL GW36!

FPL GW36 Scout Picks – Defenders

Gabriel (7.2m), O’Reilly (5.2m), and Porro (5.2m) make up our backline for FPL GW36…

Gabriel keeps his permanent spot in the backline of the AAFPL Scout Picks team as Arsenal travel across town to face West Ham away from home in FPL GW36. Arsenal are in pole position to win the league at this point, following City’s draw to Everton on bank holiday Monday – the team will be keen to capitalise on City’s slip-up by winning against West Ham and putting some daylight between them and Pep’s team going into the final two games.
The Gunners will be going into this game with a lot of confidence following their 1-0 victory against Atletico in the Champions League, and will be keen to keep their momentum going. Gabriel is the best defender in FPL and the best Arsenal asset, so he is (once again) a bit of a no-brainer.
O’Reilly also keeps his spot in the team for City’s double gameweek against Brentford and Palace (both at home). While City looked unconvincing for large portions of their draw against Everton, Pep’s side will surely be even hungrier now to keep the pressure on Arsenal as we enter the final stages of the 25/26 Premier League campaign.
The young LB is the highest scoring defender in FPL across the last 10 GWs despite only playing in 8 of those matches – averaging 8.25 points per game across that period. His blank against Everton was his first since FPL GW30 and only his second in the last 10 GWs. O’Reilly is a consistent point scorer with diverse point scoring avenues (defcon, assists, goals, CS, bonus points), and on top of all that, he has a double GW against two sides in patchy form.
Finally, we have Spurs’ Porro. What’s this? A Spurs defender? Yes, that’s correct, dear reader, Spurs are back! Since De Zerbi took over, Spurs’ defense has been exceptional, take a look at these stats…
Spurs’ Defense since De Zerbi’s appointment:
- Lowest xGC (3.57)
- 2nd fewest big chances conceded (7)
- 2nd fewest goals against (4)
- Fewest Shots against (39)

Furthermore, thanks to this newfound solidity, Porro has been able to venture forward far more and has returned (somewhat) to the attacking fullback that we FPL fans know and love. During that same period, Porro has the most shots and shots on target of any defender and the 3rd most chances created! Leeds look pretty safe and need only a couple more points (or for West Ham/Spurs to lose one more game) in order to confirm their safety, while Spurs are still fighting for their lives. De Zerbi’s side have look much improved in recent games, and while Leeds won’t be an easy team to beat, there are certainly worse times to face them…

FPL GW36 Scout Picks – Midfielders

We’ve selected a midfield four of Fernandes (10.4m), Saka (9.8m), Cherki (6.6m), and Hinshelwood (5.1m) for FPL GW36…

Bruno naturally keeps his place in the team following another outstanding performance against Liverpool in FPL GW35. Fernandes picked up another assist (in FPL terms) against United’s long-time rivals last weekend, making it 8 consecutive matches with an FPL attacking return. In that run of 8 matches, Fernandes has actually managed 11 attacking returns (9A, 2G) as well as 12 bonus points and the odd defcon! United’s midfield maestro is an FPL point-scoring machine and misses out on the captaincy solely due to City’s double gameweek…
FACT: Bruno has a double-digit haul rate of 34.4%, meaning he’s averaging a DD haul once every three matches!
Saka comes into the team for Arsenal’s attractive fixture against West Ham in FPL GW36. Though Arsenal’s starboy has only very recently come back from injury, he has already made a huge impact, not only scoring and assisting in just 45 minutes on the pitch in FPL GW35, but also scoring the winning goal to take Arsenal through to their first Champions League final in 20 years! Saka is a special player and, when fit, an awesome FPL option too.
Saka has the highest xGI/90 of any Arsenal player (1000+ minutes) as well as the second most goals and the joint most assists (in FPL) in the squad. In just one half against Fulham in FPL GW35, the young winger took 2 shots and made 4 key passes – he was really unlucky not to come away with more than 1G and 1A in the end! Having been subbed off before 60′ in midweek, it’s likely that he will start this crunch fixture against West Ham as the Gunners inch closer towards the Premier League title…
NOTE: Gyokeres was considered for this team, but due to his playing the full 90 against Atletico Madrid, we decided to stick with the safer option of Saka for GW36.
Cherki’s place in the team is secure for FPL GW36 as City’s double GW makes him perhaps the most attractive midfield option in the game. While Pep’s rotation is often hard to predict and mildly infuriating, the Spanish manager has completely changed his system and personnel to fit Cherki into the team this season, making an omission unlikely from my perspective. The French attacker is a very special and particular type of player, and while Foden, Silva, and others could potentially do a decent impression, with the league on the line, I can’t see him being dropped in any of their last four matches.

Semenyo to Cherki will be a popular move this GW, as the Frenchman completely blows Semenyo away in almost all departments across the last 5 matches. Cherki is bang on target for his xG and only slightly overperforming his xA, suggesting that this current rich vein of form is by no means a fluke! Facing a Palace team that certainly looks like their mind is on other things and a Brentford team that have been patchy (to say the least) in recent weeks, Cherki is a phenomenal option for the double and should certainly be considered for captaincy too!
Completing the midfield is Brighton’s Hinshelwood. Considering Wolves’ propensity to concede goals at the moment (11 goals conceded in their last 5 matches), it makes sense to double up on Brighton attackers for this one. Hinshelwood is a solid, budget option for those of you looking for a good rotation option for the final few matches of the season, considering Brighton play Wolves, Leeds, and then United in their final three.
The young English midfielder has 8 goal involvements across his 17 appearances in the league and has been a mainstay in Hurzeler’s side since FPL GW26. Hinshelwood has 3 goal involvements in his last 5 Premier League matches and 2 goals in his last 2 games. While we shouldn’t expect double-digit hauls from him, Hinshelwood is a diverse points scorer with some excellent underlying numbers in recent matches and is thus a solid option for Brighton’s favorable fixture against bottom-of-the-league Wolves.

FPL GW36 Scout Picks – Forwards

Completing our AAFPL GW36 Scout Picks team is Richarlison (6.3m), Haaland (14.6m), and Welbeck (6.3m)…

Haaland naturally keeps his place and the captaincy for City’s DGW against Brentford and Palace. With no other competitions to focus on and just 4 matches to close the gap between themselves and Arsenal, expect City to throw everything they’ve got left at those games. Haaland is nowhere near his best at this moment in time, and Pep seems to be shifting the focus away from his star striker and towards the wingers and the number 10. Regardless, Haaland is a world-class goal scorer playing for one of the best teams in the world – with a DGW against two average sides, he’s a must-have and a great captaincy pick.

FACT: Haaland is still currently the highest scoring player in FPL with 219 points (6.6PPG)
Welbeck comes in as our second Brighton attacker for Brighton’s attractive fixture against Wolves, joining Hinshelwood and Verbruggen to complete the Seagull triple up. Welbeck is the 9th-highest-scoring forward in the game and has returned in both of his last two appearances in the league. His 13 goals and 1 assist in 23 appearances makes him one of the more efficient players in the league, averaging 0.6GI per appearance and 0.53xGI/90.
The Englishman is a low-volume shot taker, averaging around 2.25 shots per 90 (compared to 3.86 for Haaland, 3.33 for Sesko, and 3.24 for Ekitike), ranking him similarly to the likes of Thiago, Gyokeres, and Semenyo. With good underlying numbers, decent form, and an attractive fixture against one of the worst defenses in the league, Welbeck is an excellent option for this weekend’s round of PL action.
Completing the team is… Another Spurs player? That’s right, Richarlison comes into the team for Spurs’ huge clash with Leeds! Richarlison has 14 goal involvements in his 29 appearances for Spurs in the league this season and is averaging 0.59xGI/90. With Solanke out injured, Richarlison has taken over as Spurs’ primary attacking option and has looked improved in recent games under the new manager.
Leeds could secure safety with a win over Spurs this weekend, but will surely not be as ‘up for it’ as this Spurs side, who are still fighting for their lives. While Spurs’ attack is still not quite as fluid as it could be, there are certainly signs that De Zerbi is starting to work his magic on a Tottenham squad that has been ravaged by injuries all season long. Leeds have conceded 3 goals in their last 2 matches, including 1 against a Burnley side that ranks bottom for most attacking metrics. Okay – Richarlison is a bit of a punt, but Spurs need to pick up some wins soon, and Leeds are pretty safe at this point, so we’re backing them in FPL GW36!
