FPL Gameweek 31 Review

The transfers in were a huge success. I took a hit to get Gordon (10 points) and Wilson (9 points) for Rice (blank) and Salah (blank), netting me a total of 15 points. It was a risk-free hit to take, it did pay off more handsomely than I thought though. The OR jump was not that high, as I am still hovering around the 650k mark, but it’s good to know that the really poor second half of the season is behind me (hopefully) as I have an easy decision to pull out the Wildcard for GW32.

FPL GW32 Wildcard Reveal

The state that I left my team in GW31 meant only one thing, the most powerful chip in the game had to be whipped out.

I activated the Wildcard pretty late (only on the weekend), but it was always the plan and I had fully committed to it. With no City in my team, the team definitely looked primed only for GW31. It’s not the ideal Wildcard, as Arsenal went out of the FA Cup against Southampton, and resultantly will not have a Double Gameweek. But City did go through and we had confirmation of 3 fixtures being brought forward from GW34 to GW33.

Teams having Double Gameweek 33

For managers wildcarding in GW32, Manchester City triple up is an absolute must. They have 2 DGWs coming up, along with a blank in GW34 to accommodate their FA Cup game, where Free Hit would be very optimal, which makes Bench Boosting in DGW33 very enticing. This is the draft I have at the moment..

Gabriel and Bruno are the only non DGWers in the team. Bruno is just a set and forget player. Gabriel though, the jury is still out. I do not want to go against an Arsenal player who are chasing the title and will surely look to tighten things up even more at the back, but it’s a genuine strategy to go without one.

From the teams that have a double, I am tripled up on City, Brighton and Leeds. Brighton have a very good fixture against Burnley in GW32 and they immediately double in GW33. The Seagulls have not conceded more than 1 goals in 11 of their last 12 league games, which warrants investing in at least a couple of their defenders/keeper. I have gone for Verbruggen and Van Hecke. Verbruggen was an easy choice, while Van Hecke has shown he is good for Defcons and also has a significant goal threat.

From Leeds, I have gone for a triple up of Darlow, Gudmundsson and DCL. Rodon is a concern after picking up an injury in the FA Cup win against West Ham and hence I have gone for Gudmundsson for now. DCL has 10 goals and 2 assists this season. With penalties in his locker, he is great value at 5.6m, with Wolves, Bournemouth and Burnley in 3 of his next 4. Darlow is very cheap and offers DGW33, no brainer pick for those looking to Bench Boost in DGW32. From Manchester City, Haaland, Semenyo and O’Reilly are pretty much no-brainers and first names on the teamsheet.

I have gone for a Chelsea double up in attack. They are definitely not in form at the moment but I am hoping for a change in their form. Palmer and Joao Pedro, the two players the attack relies on, are both in the team. As for Bournemouth, I have gone for Hill and Tavernier. Hill has been a cheap beast all season, while Tavernier offers a safe route into their midfield. Kroupi took the last penalty, and we are definitely hoping he takes the next one.
