FPL GW29 Transfer Targets & Watchlist Based on Stats & Eye Test

Welcome to this week’s Transfer Targets and Watchlist, where we look at a few players to target ahead of GW29 and also a few players to target and keep an eye on for the upcoming Gameweeks. The list has three players, one forward, defender, and midfielder each, who are expected to perform well this week, given both form and opposition, these will be “FPL GW29 Transfer Targets”. The list also contains players who should be on your watchlist for the upcoming Gameweeks, again, a combination of form and fixtures.

FPL GW29 Transfer Targets

Virgil Van Dijk – £6.1m – 30.1%

Starting this week’s FPL GW29 Transfer Targets is none other than one of the best centre-backs in the league, Virgil Van Dijk. The Liverpool stalwart has been in impressive form in the past 3 gameweeks, scoring 35 points, second highest among defenders with only O’Reilly outscoring him.

Two out of his three goals have come in the last 3 games, during which period he has also chipped in with an assist. During this period, he also already registered 1.28 xGi, another metric where only O’Reilly outscored him.

He has the center-back position on lock for Liverpool, and with their fixtures run looking strong, Van Dijk should be a priority transfer. In the next few games, they play Wolves (A), Tottenham (H), Brighton (A), Fulham (H) & Everton (A), games which can help them extend their 3-game unbeaten run.

A senior statesman with vast experience, averaging almost 9 Defcons every game, locked in the starting eleven and favorable fixtures, Van Dijk should be on top of your transfer target list!

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – £5.0m – 3.7%

The next player on the GW29 Transfer Targets list is Everton’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. He has 3 G/A in the last 5 games, where, among midfielders priced 6.5 or lower, only four have outscored him. He also picked up 4 defcon points during this run, showing his versatility when it comes to scoring points.

Data from stats.allaboutfpl.com (Fully Free)

The 5 Million priced midfielder has 10 G/A this season, with 3 of them coming in his last 5 games (It is worth noting that he did miss 6 game weeks due to an injury and has had only 20 starts this season), and now faces Burnley at home in the upcoming game week.

Priced at just 5.0 million, a low ownership, game against Burnley and no guilt when it comes to benching him for the tough games, KDH is a brilliant enabler who will let you get the more premium assets if you aspire for them. Get him before he becomes a template again!

Hugo Ekitiké – £9.0m – 30.3%

The next Liverpool player on the transfer targets list is their most impactful signing of the season, Hugo Ekitike. The 23-year old has taken the Premier League by storm this season. In 25 appearances (only 19 starts), he has contributed 15 G/A. In comparison to other strikers in the league:

  • 3rd for Goals Scored
  • 5th for Assists
  • 2nd for xA
  • 4th for Shots Taken
  • 7th for Big Chances
  • 2nd for Double-Digit Hauls

It is worth noting that he is a very clinical striker, ranking in the top 5 for his actual output compared to xGi (15 goal contributions with an xGi of 11.56). Liverpool have the joint second-highest average FDR of just 2.6 for the next 5 games, and a double up on their assets is a very tempting move.

An exciting youngster with only the sky as his ceiling, Ekitike is one to watch out for and could be a great captaincy candidate also going ahead.

FPL GW29 Watchlist

Benjamin Sesko – £7.3m – 4.9%

4 goals in the last 5 gameweeks, with 3 of them coming off the bench, Benjamin Sesko has suddenly transformed himself into Ole Gunnar Solskjær under the new manager, Michael Carrick.

The 22-year old Slovenian Striker had 4 goals and 2 assists in 11 starts before Carrick, and now, with just 1 start and a total of 167 minutes, Sesko has already scored 4 goals. While his injury struggles still continue, he did get his first start under Carrick last week against Crystal Palace and could be set to start again this week against Newcastle.

Data from stats.allaboutfpl.com (Fully Free)

Since GW24, Sesko has scored the 4th most points among forwards, outscoring the likes of Haaland and Bowen despite playing under 160 minutes. Since GW24, he has also had:

  • Joint 6th for most Shots
  • 1st for Most Shots on Targets
  • Joint 2nd for Most Headed Attempts
  • Joint 4th for Most Big Chances

If he can nail the striker position, Sesko might just be unstoppable, and with Haaland’s injury and lean patch, could we have another tall, strong, and fast striker from Manchester rule the league?

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – £5.7m – 9.3%

Next striker on the GW29 Transfer Target and Wishlist is Leeds United’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The ex-Toffees man has 12 G/A this season in 20 starts for Leeds United, a number not many thought he would be able to achieve with a newly promoted team.

Data from stats.allaboutfpl.com (Fully Free)

His numbers among forwards have been pretty good for someone who many considered “washed” due to his constant injury struggles:

  • Joint 5th highest for Goals
  • 5th for xG
  • 6th for xGi
  • 8th for Most Shots
  • 7th for Most Shots on target
  • 5th for Most Headers
  • 4th for Big Chances

Leeds United have an average FDR of just 2.8, which puts them in the top 5 for the best run of fixtures in the next five gameweeks as they look to secure survival. DCL is no newbie to relegation scraps, and you could see him utilise those powerful headers to make sure Leeds see another season of Premier League football!

Rayan Vitor – £5.6m – 2.6%

Imagine signing for a Premier League club and in just 4 starts, you have already registered 3 G/A. Rayan Vitor has had a brilliant start to life in the Premier League, and he will hope to keep this going and help the Cherries finish the season strong.

In just 378 minutes, Rayan has scored 2 goals and assisted 1. He has scored 24 points since joining, and while that is 9th amongst midfielders priced 6 or below, he has played the least amount of minutes among them.

Keep an eye out for him as Bournemouth play Brentford (H), Burnley (A), and Manchester United (H) in the next three, if he can cement his place, he would be a brilliant player to have in your squad!
