FPL GW29 Scout Picks Based on Stats, Analysis and Matchups

Welcome to our FPL GW29 Scout Picks blog! Yes that’s right, there’s another round of Premier League fixtures taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week! Don’t wait till the weekend to make changes – do it now! Haaland’s injury and Ekitike’s haul meant that our team managed just 65 this week, not bad, but certainly room to improve…

Our Scout Picks team’s total of 65 was not enough to beat the Official Scout Picks score of 88 in FPL GW26. We remain 2 points ahead of the Official Scout Picks going into FPL GW29.

Jordan Pickford (5.6m) is our pick for FPL Gameweek 29 as Everton face Burnley at home. Burnley may have scored 7 goals across their last 3 Premier League fixtures, however as seen in both their match against Crystal Palace and their match against Brentford, Parker’s side have massively overperformed their XG in recent weeks

FACT: Everton have the 4th best goals against record in the PL

Everton’s defence has been a bit shaky in recent weeks, though this can perhaps be put down to defensive injuries and suspensions. Pickford, who remains an ever-present in the Everton back line, continues to assert himself as a solid FPL pick. The English shotstopper has helped his side to nine clean sheets so far this season and is currently the second highest scoring goalkeeper in the game, averaging Four Points per match.

VVD (6.1m), Gabriel (7.1m) and Guehi (5.2m) make up our backline for FPL GW29…

Gabriel naturally keeps his spot in the team following another impressive performance from Arsenal in FPL GW 28. The Brazilian return 9 Points in FPL GW28 to the circa 40% of FPL players that own him. Goal threat, defensive contributions, clean sheets and bonus points– this guy does it all!

Gabriel FPL

Virgil Van Dijk also retains his starting spot in our all about FPL Scout picks team following a third successive haul from the Liverpool Captain. That’s now three goal involvements in three matches for VVD, and though his team failed to keep a clean sheet Virgil still came away with a solid seven points.

Van Dijk has also comfortably got most points among Defenders over the last 7 Gameweeks with 50 points- 3 goals, 1 assist and 2 cleansheets.

The wolves look somewhat improved in recent weeks, it would be criminal to go without a Defender who has returned 17, 11 and 7 Points across his last three game weeks when his side is facing The side ranked lowest for goals and second lowest for XG. Frimpong should also be considered, as his return to the team resulted in another goal involvement for the Dutchman in FPL GW 28.

Due to O’Reilly’s injury concerns, we have decided to sub Guehi in for FPL GW29. Manchester City welcome a relegation threatened Nottingham Forest side who have scored the second fewest goals in the league. Forest have scored just one goal across their last three League games and have failed to create an XG worth of chances on all three occasions.

O'Rielly Injury

While O’Reilly is certainly a great long-term pick, we’ve gone for Guehi this week due to his security of minutes. RAN presents an interesting proposition, however, he may well be rested as he has only come back into the team recently through injury. With Ake and Stones back in the first team picture, Guehi is certainly the most sensible option for this week.

FPL GW29 Scout Picks – Midfielders

FPL GW29 Scout Picks Midfielders

We’ve selected a midfield of Iwobi (6.3m), Semenyo (8.2m), Bruno (9.9m) and KDH (5.0m) for our FPL GW29 Scout Picks team!

Iwobi has become somewhat ever forgotten man in FPL, but his performances in recent weeks have certainly brought him back onto the FPL radar. 13 points in FPL GW27 and 10 points in FPL GW28, Iwobi is on fire. Four goals and three assists so far this season does not tell the whole story…

Across his last two League appearances, Iwobi has produced three goal involvements. Seven chances created, two big chances created which resulted in two goals and an assist – simply stunning. Iwobi has been given more licence to create, and he will surely have the space to perform at this new found level against a West Ham side who remain in the relegation zone and shipped five goals against Liverpool. With Wilson an injury concern ahead of the fixture in FPL GW29, we’ve gone for Iwobi to cover Fulham’s attack.

Haaland’s injury left a gaping hole in city’s attack and it was new signing Semenyo who yet again delivered for City. Pep’s side were nowhere near their best against Leeds on Saturday evening, and though the stats suggest that City edged it, the eyeball test says otherwise…  Semenyo stepped up and converted one of the few big chances that his side created – big games call for big players.

FACT: Forest (City’s opponent for GW29) have conceded 3 goals in their last 3 matches and 7 in their last 5.

The Cityzens will certainly be looking to make a statement against Forest this midweek and with Haaland still injured, Semenyo is the obvious pick. Semenyo has being in stunning form since moving to Manchester in January, but has looked particularly fierce in recent weeks having produced three goal involvements in his last three Premier League fixtures. The winter signing is averaging a goal every other game this season and, with Haaland doubtful for this one, will likely be City’s Main goal threat in Game week 29 against Forest.

Bruno Fernandes FPL

In last week’s article, we argued that Bruno‘s reason blanks were just a blip and that sticking with United’s captain was the best course of action – oh how right we were… It is not just the 13-point haul that is so satisfying, Bruno’s the improved performance (6CC, 1BCC, 3S, 1G+1A) highlights how important an FPL asset he is. United face a patchy Newcastle side that have conceded 13 goals across their last five Premier League matches.

Finally we have Dewsbury-Hall. Burnley are Everton’s opponents this week, so let me remind you of their defensive stats… Burnley have conceded 12 goals across their last 5 premier league matches and sit bottom of the league for both goals against and expected goals against – an Everton attacker is a must for FPL GW29!

Dewsbury Hall has the most goal involvements of any Everton player in the league this season (level with Jack Grealish who is injured). Ndiaye should also be considered, but considering recent form KDH is the better pick. Against Newcastle in FPL GW28, KDH picked up 1 assist having created 2 big chances across the 90. Furthermore, in both of his last prem matches, KDH has picked up Defcon points, highlighting his versatility as an asset. Burnley’s defensive record is dire so it’s worth having an Everton attacker this week and for us, KDH is the pick of the bunch!

Ekitike (9.0m), JSL (6.2m) and Thiago (7.1m) complete the team for FPL GW29!

AllAboutFPL Stats
Data from stats.allaboutfpl.com (Fully Free)

Ekitike has looked better and better in recent weeks, lacking only the final product. He finally delivered for FPL managers in GW28, producing a huge 2 assists and 1 goal (15 points) in Liverpool’s 5-2 routing of West Ham. Ekitike is averaging 0.71xGI/90 and 0.59 goals per 90 in his first season in the Prem, a great start to his career in Red! With Wolves, the side ranked 3rd from bottom for both xGA and goals against, in FPL GW29 it would be a crime to go without the in-form Frenchman this mid-week!

xG FPL

JSL comes in as our Palace attacker as the Eagles travel across town to face Tottenham Hotspur in FPL GW29. Tottenham remain win-less in 2026 and are the worst team this calendar year. Tottenham have conceded the most goals in the division since the turn of the year and are 4th from bottom for xGA in the same period – the stats paint a bleak picture. JSL, on the other hand, has looked decent since joining from Wolves in January, and is deputizing for the injured/wantaway Mateta fairly well. 2 goals in 4 games thus far is not bad, but he’ll be hoping to use Spurs as a springboard no doubt!

Thiago is the final pick for our AAFPL GW29 Scout Picks team. The Brazilian delivered 6 points to the lucky 34% of managers that own him, scoring once and taking 1 bonus point. Managers will no doubt be a bit disappointed by that haul, considering his side beat Burnley 4-3; his 4 shots in that game should offer some comfort. Bournemouth, Brentford’s opponent this week, have had a decent defensive record in recent games, but the underlying numbers are less reassuring, having conceded many big chances to both West Ham (3) and Everton (3) in unconvincing wins. Thiago is an elite striker in good form with a decent fixture this mid-week, he’s a great pick for FPL GW29!
