Welcome to our FPL GW27 Scout Picks blog! FPL GW27 is finally upon us after an exhausting week of football. The progress of our AAFPL Scout Picks squad took a bit of a hit in FPL GW26, as we missed out on points from key assets like Palmer, Haaland and Semenyo. Alas, we have learnt from our mistakes and are confident that our picks for this week will deliver some serious FPL points!
Our Scout Picks team’s total of 51 was not enough to beat the Official Scout Picks score of 64 in FPL GW26. We remain 4 points ahead of the Official Scout Picks going into FPL GW27.

FPL GW27 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

Sanchez (4.9m) returns to the AAFPL Scout Picks team following a short absence in FPL GW26. Our Chelsea defensive pick of Chalobah proved an adequate replacement last week, hitting the Defcon threshold and delivering 3 points in spite of Chelsea’s late capitulation to Leeds. With Burnley at home, a fixture so good that FPL has had to add a darker shade of green to the game to show how easy it is, in FPL GW27, a Chelsea defensive asset is a must have!
FACT: Rosenier is unbeaten in the league with Chelsea and has picked up 13 points from a possible 15 since his appointment.
Chelsea’s ‘keeper is the fifth highest scoring player in his position and is just 7 points off breaking 100 points in FPL. Chelsea have tended to do well against teams towards the bottom of the table in recent games, having secured victories against both West Ham and Wolves in the last few weeks, so Blues fans will be hoping for a repeat in FPL GW27. Burnley have the second worst xG and the fourth fewest goals in the league. Their 2-3 victory over Palace may concern some, but their underlying stats in that game were poor (0.69xG and just 3 shots on target) – in their previous two PL matches they failed to score.
Burnley will be low on confidence following their exit from the FA cup at the hands of Mansfield town, whereas Chelsea will be looking to continue the fine form that new boss Rosenier has overseen.

FPL GW27 Scout Picks – Defenders

Gabriel (7.1m), Virgil (5.9m) and Kayode (4.5m) form our back three for FPL GW27…
Gabriel naturally keeps his spot in the team, despite his somewhat underwhelming performance in the DGW. Arsenal remain the premier defensive team in FPL, and all managers should be considering either a double or triple up on defensive assets from the Gunners. Gabriel remains the asset of choice for most managers (43.1% ownership), though Timber and Raya should also be considered.
Due to his high ownership and potential rank threat, Gabriel is our choice for FPL GW27. He ticks all of the necessary boxes in terms of attacking output, underlying numbers, defensive solidity and defcon. Though the fixture is not ideal, it is by no means a bad one, and one could feasibly see Gabriel picking up either a CS, an attacking return, or both when the Gunners travel across town to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in FPL GW27.
Virgil comes into the team for Liverpools favourable fixture against Nottingham Forest. The Liverpool captain scored a massive 17 points in FPL GW26, scoring a goal, hitting the defcon threshold, keeping a CS and taking home all three bonus points for the lucky few that own him. While it’s unlikely we’ll see another huge haul like that in GW27, Virgil remains a decent option due to his versatility of point scoring.

What’s more, Nottingham Forest have scored just 2 goals in their last 3 games, failing to score against Wolves who have one of the worst defenses in the league in FPL GW26. Forest have actually scored the second fewest goals in the league this season (25), though their expected data suggests they should have scored about 7 more goals than they actually have. It’s unclear how they will line up following the appointment of Pereira as their new coach, but this should still be targeted as a decent fixture from a Liverpool point of view.
Kayode takes up the last spot in defense as Brentford host Brighton in FPL GW27. Since January 1st Brentford have picked up the joint second most points in the league and the Bees are now in touching distance of a Champions league place. Their form in the league is mostly attributed to Thiago’s heroics at the attacking end of the pitch, but their defensive stability should not be overlooked!
6 Clean Sheets and just 35 goals conceded makes them a mid-table side for defensive stats, so why are we targeting their defenders for FPL GW27? Brighton, their opponents for this weekend, are in a spot of bother and are winless in 6 in the league. The seagulls have lost both of their last 2 matches and registered less than 1xG on both of those occasions. Hurzeler side lack identity and will surely struggle against such a well-drilled and well-coached side like Brentford. Kayode is nailed at RB, something that cannot be said for the rest of Brentford’s defenders, and offers decent attacking output and thus is our pick for GW27.
Brentford also have good fixtures beyond this week including a good fixture in Blank Gameweek 31.

FPL GW27 Scout Picks – Midfielders

We have selected a midfield four of Wirtz (8.4m), Palmer (10.6m), Rogers (7.6m) and Bruno F (9.8m) for FPL GW27…

Palmer comes into the team and takes the captains armband as Chelsea welcome Burnley to Stamford Bridge in this round of PL fixtures. Palmer’s season-wide xGI of 8.63 is only marginally behind his actual goal involvements of 10, but it is his recent inspiring form which secures him a place in this team. Five goal involvements in his last 2 matches is stunning – is the old Palmer back?…

Against Leeds the Englishman managed 5 shots, 4 chances and 2 big chances created. His xGI in that game was well over 2, and he could have certainly come away with more, missing a huge chance to win the game in extra time at the end (a chance worth 0.78xG!). More than that though, Palmer has looked much more comfortable and much fitter in recent games, owing perhaps to a slightly different role in the team, and a new training regiment from the new boss. Whatever the reason, Palmer looks back to his best, and with a fixture against by far the worst defense in the league (worst xGA and worst goals against) in GW27, Palmer is a fantastic pick.
Wirtz keeps his spot in our team following another impressive showing against Sunderland in the league. The German created 2 chances and took 5 shots, hitting the post in the 33rd minute, but failed to register a goal or an assist in back-to-back games in the premier league for the first time since early December. Flo was influential throughout and could have easily hauled in this one had it not been for the heroics of the Sunderland defenders and their goalie.
Next up Liverpool travel to Nottingham to take on the tricky trees. This will be far from an easy match, but Wirtz may well possess the necessary tools to unlock what may prove to be a stubborn Forest defensive unit.
Rogers similarly keeps his place in our squad after an equally frustrating match for the english midfielder. Rogers created 2 chances and took 4 shots against Brighton in GW26, but failed to produce anything for his team’s 1-0 victory over the Seagulls – he’ll be hoping that he can be more effective against Leeds in GW27. Leeds are like two different sides home and away; Villa will be hopeful that they can take all 3 points at Villa park this weekend.
Rogers, as shown in the above graphic, is massively overperforming his underlying numbers so far this season, more so than any of the other midfielders in our team for FPL GW27. This is no surprise however, as anyone who has watched Rogers this season will have noted his long range shooting ability, an ability which has led to a number of his goals this campaign.
In fact, of the goals Rogers has scored, only one has had an xG value of more than 0.2, and only three have had an xG value of more than 0.1 – this tells you the quality of player that Rogers is, and suggests that maybe we shouldn’t worry too much about his underlying numbers!
Finally we have Bruno Fernandes. Manchester United’s star midfielder blanked for the first time in six matches in FPL GW26, failing to register a goal or an assist against a rejuvenated West Ham side. Manchester United travel to merseyside to face a struggling Everton team in FPL GW27, surely handing both Carrick and Bruno F to continue their impervious league form.
Even if Bruno failed to return against WHU, he still created 4 chances and 1 big chance but was ultimately let down by his teammates finishing and some astute defending by the hammers. Bruno has excelled since moving back to his favored no.10 position, it would be no surprise to see him delivering more FPL returns in GW27.

FPL GW27 Scout Picks – Forwards

Strand Larsen (6.1m), Joao Pedro (7.7m) and Thiago (7.0m) complete the team…

It was a toss-up between Sarr and JSL and we unfortunately chose the wrong one… This week we’re backing JSL, which likely means it’ll be the other way around! Wolves remain a defense to target, and now that JSL is up and running in a Palace shirt it seems like a great opportunity to target him. JSL profiles similarly to Mateta in that he is a low-volume-high-quality shot taker, meaning that he slots easily into both the formation and play-style of this Palace team. Against Burnley he took just three shots and scored two goals – some may call it lucky, but I think that performance hints at what is to come…
We still only have a small sample size to look at for JSL as he didn’t play that much for Wolves before his move to Palace, but from what we have seen, he looks like he good be an excellent budget asset for our teams. Sarr is also a good pick for this week, but considering the performances of both players in FPL GW26, we’ve gone for JSL!
JP keeps his spot in the team following another excellent showing in FPL GW26 in which the brazilian picked up another double digit haul in FPL. That’s now 4 double digit hauls this season for JP, three of which have come in the last four GWs. 9 goal involvements in his last 5 matches – that’s outrageous! With Burnley up next, it would be criminal to take JP out of the team for FPL GW27!

Most Double Digit Hauls in the last 6 Gameweeks:

Finally we have Brentfords’ Igor Thiago. With a great fixture against a struggling Brighton side, now is the time to target Thiago! Brighton looked very open against Liverpool in the cup at the weekend, conceding 2.0xG, 13 shots and ultimately 3 goals. Brighton are winless in 6 in all competitions and in 5 in the league, having last won a game in early January against Manchester United. Brentford on the other hand have scored 5 goals in their last 3 league games and rank 6th overall for xG this season.
Thiago comes out on top when compared to the other two forwards in this list thanks to his extraordinary 17 goals this season. The brazilian ranks third for xGI/90 and second for xG/90 in the league this season, averaging a goal or assist every 122 minutes. Brighton are in a poor bit of form, and we’re hoping to capitalise on that by selecting Thiago for this week’s team!
