FPL GW25 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

FPL GW25 Scout Picks Goalkeeper

Sanchez (4.9m) keeps his spot in between the sticks for Chelsea’s match against Wolves in FPL GW25. Wolves have now gone three matches without scoring a goal, having lost 2-0 for the second consecutive game in FPL GW24. Edwards’ side did admittedly create a few chances in that one, but were unable to convert – a familiar tale for Wolves fans…

Wolves rank second bottom for xG and bottom for goals scored, having netted just 15 goals so far this season, 9 fewer than next lowest West Ham. Chelsea’s defensive stats are fairly average, though they have looked far more solid since Rosenier’s appointment. Sanchez has been a decent player for the Scout Picks team for the past few weeks, so we’re sticking with him in FPL GW25!

Gabriel (7.0m), Timber (6.3m), and Tarkowski (5.8m) make up our backline for FPL GW25…

An Arsenal double up in defense will be a popular pick for those wildcarding in FPL GW25, as the Gunners have proven over the past two seasons that they are a reliable defensive outfit. With by far the best goals against and xGA record in the league, it makes sense why so many managers are targeting at least two, if not three, Arsenal defensive options!

FACT: Gabriel has the same xG/90 as Harry Wilson and a higher xG/90 than Morgan Rogers!

Gabriel and Timber are perhaps the stand-outs due to their minutes security and added attacking threat. The duo are first and third in the points scoring table for defenders in FPL thus far. Arsenal’s opponents for this weekend are Sunderland, a side who rank poorly attacking wise away from home. In fact, Sunderland have the second-worst away scoring record in the league and the 4th worst expected goals. While they have made the Stadium of Light a fortress, they are far less threatening away from home.

Tarkowski is our other defensive pick, coming in just behind Timber as the fourth-highest scoring in FPL so far this season. The Englishman has picked up defcon points on 17 occasions this season, as well as keeping 9 clean sheets for the Toffees. With Everton facing Fulham in FPL GW25, we thought it was high time to include him in one of our teams!

Fulham actually have the fifth-worst xG in the league, having massively overperformed their underlying numbers (I’m looking at you, Harry Wilson) so far. Everton, on the other hand have conceded the sixth fewest goals. Tarko is a versatile poins scoring, with Defcon-a-plenty and a decent probability of a clean sheet – he’s a great option for this weekend.

FPL GW25 Scout Picks – Midfielders

FPL GW25 Scout Picks Midfielders

Our midfield quintet for FPL GW25 consists of Palmer (10.4m), Rice (7.5m), Mitoma (6.1m), Bruno (9.6m), and Mbeumo (8.4m)…

Palmer comes in as Enzo is a bit of a minutes concern, having played 90′ in mid-week. Of course, it is not out of the question that Enzo starts this match, but as Chelsea have a number of midfield and forward options available to them, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is rotated out. Palmer, on the other han,d only came on for the final 30 minutes of the match in the cup, meaning that he’s pretty nailed to start this one…

Palmer doesn’t yet look back to his old self, but his numbers are steadily improving. 0.7xGI and 0.84xGI in his last two matches in the Premier League show signs that he is slowly getting back to his best. Wolves remain a fixture to target, particularly from an attacking perspective. Enzo’s attacking numbers are unreal, and he remains a good option in the long term, but for a one-week punt, we’re going for Palmer!

Rice comes into the midfield for Arsenal’s match against Sunderland on Saturday lunchtime. Rice is now the preferred Arsenal attacking option for a number of reasons, namely: minutes security, attacking output, and versatility of points scoring.

FACT: Rice is the third-highest scoring midfielder in FPL and the joint fifth overall.

Rice has scored 4 goals and assisted 3 so far this season, sitting behind only Gyokeres and Trossard (and of course, an own goal) for goals in the Arsenal squad. Rice is also fifth in the squad for xGI/90 (1000+ minutes), though it’s fairly close between second and fifth. The English midfielder has hit the defcon threshold on 8 occasions in the league, as well as scoring bonus points 8 times. Rice has scored 3+ points in 19 matches and has hit more than 5 points in 11, with his points per match averaging at 5.6. Rice is a great option on a WC and a solid option for those looking to target a decent fixture this weekend in FPL GW25.

Mitoma comes into the team after a long-term absence from our AAFPL Scout Picks team. Once an FPL favourite, the Japanese international has dropped down the pecking order and is now somewhat of a forgotten man in the community. With a derby against an out-of-sorts Palace side in FPL GW25, now could be the perfect time to target Mitoma, especially considering his recent underlying numbers…

Mitoma FPL

This graph from FFH shows both Mitoma’s underperformance in recent weeks and how injury has ravaged his season so far.

Despite not returning in the last 3 premier league fixtures, Mitoma has accrued a total of almost 1.5xGI in that time. This will come as no surprise to many, however, as Mitoma has been underperforming his underlying stats all season. His xGI/90 of 0.41 is similar to Rice’s, but his output has been far lower, having scored just 2 and assisted 1 in the league so far. Injury and rotation have blocked Mitoma from a real run in the team, something that a creative dribbler like him would greatly benefit from. Having started all of the last 5 matches in the league, and with a decent fixture against Palace in FPL GW25, managers should really be taking a good look at the once fan favourite midfielder!

Finally, we have the United duo of Mbeumo and Bruno. Let’s start with our captain for FPL GW25, Bruno Fernandes! Bruno is the hottest prospect in FPL right now – if you don’t have him, take this as a sign to get him in! 2 double-digit hauls in the last 3 GWs and an average of 8 points per match over the last 4 matches, Bruno is on fire. Since moving into attacking midfield (GW21), Bruno Fernandes has created 17 chances and 8 big chances, resulting in 5 assists. That is outrageous!

Manchester United FPL

Mbeumo similarly has been in great form since Amorim’s departure, settling well into the number 9 position in a 4-3-2-1. A midfielder playing out of position as a striker will always be a great pick in FPL, as, obviously, they are far more likely to score when playing in a more advanced position on the pitch. The Cameroon attacker had a quieter game against Fulham in GW24, creating 2 chances and taking just 1 shot, but both the chances he created and the one he took were of very high quality (0.65xGI). Mbeumo and Bruno are two of the most in-form players in the league, they are both standout options for GW25.

FPL GW25 Scout Picks – Forwards

FPL GW25 Scout Picks Forwards

Our team is completed by a front two of Joao Pedro (7.4m) and Castellanos (5.5m)…

JP may have played 90 minutes in mid-week, but he only played 45 at the weekend, making him more likely to start than the aforementioned Enzo (who played 90 in both). Furthermore, JP’s second-half performance against West Ham in FPL GW24 makes him a standout option regardless of whether he starts or not!

2 goal involvements off the bench and 3 bonus points for his troubles made him a double-digit-point-scorer in FPL GW24 with 1 huge 10 points! JP is a great pick, and a Chelsea attacking double-up is a must-have, not only for this fixture, but for their great run of upcoming games!

Castellanos comes into the team for West Ham’s game against Burnley in FPL GW25. Bowen could and should be considered as an option for this weekend, but it is Taty who is catching FPL managers’ eyes at the moment. Castellanos’ attacking numbers since his debut have been immense. Let’s take a look…

Castellanos FPL

If you’re looking to target this fixture with a West Ham attacker, then Castellanos could be your man! Alternatively, Bowen remains a great option, and he is in fine form, but Castellanos is a superb differential option. As the stats suggest, West Ham are on an upward trajectory, whereas Burnley continue to flounder, so this is certainly a fixture to target.
