FPL GW24 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper

FPL GW24 Scout Picks Goalkeeper

Sanchez (4.9m) keeps his spot in our AAFPL Scout Picks team for FPL GW24 as Chelsea welcome London rivals West Ham to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. Sanchez’s clean sheet in GW23 was wiped out with just minutes to go, leaving the Chelsea keeper with just some save points in the end. The 1-3 victory against Palace must have been reassuring for Sanchez owners however, as the ‘keeper produced an impressive 5 saves having faced 1.9xGOT and conceding just the one, but Palace really created very few chances until late in the second half due to Chelsea’s astute defensive set-up…

FACT: Sanchez is the fourth-highest scoring goalkeeper in FPL.

West Ham sit bottom half of the table for both goals scored and xG, though their numbers do look improved in recent games. Chelsea, on the other hand, have kept just 1 clean sheet in their last 5 matches. The Blues looked solid for most of the match against Palace, and were in fact far more defensively sound than their previous match against Brentford, in which they kept a CS! Chelsea are definitely a team in transition, though it must be said that Rosenier seems to have sured up their backline since coming in. Sanchez is a great pick for this weekend’s fixture against West Ham and will surely be a consideration for managers on a WC considering Chelsea’s excellent upcoming fixtures.

FPL GW24 Scout Picks – Defenders

FPL GW24 Scout Picks Defenders

Gabriel (6.6m), Mukiele (4.4m) and Hill (3.9m) make up our backline for FPL GW24…

Gabriel naturally keeps his place in the team. Arsenal’s general solidity, coupled with Gabriel’s attacking threat, defcon numbers, and general aura, makes him a near-nailed option for our Scout Picks teams every week. An Arsenal defensive double up may be proposed by some this week, considering the Gunners face a promoted team, but Leeds should not be underestimated…

The Yorkshire team were unlucky to come away with just the 1 goal and the 1 point from Monday night’s game against Everton, having peppered the Toffee goal with both shots and missed chances. Arsenal are set for a challenge this weekend when travelling to face Leeds, but Gabriel remains a great pick.

Mukiele also keeps his spot in the team for Sunderland’s game against Burnley in FPL GW24. As with Arsenal, we considered a Sunderland defensive double-up due to the attractiveness of this match against 2nd from bottom Burnley. In the end, we decided against it (mainly as we were put off by Sunderland’s 3-0 loss to WHU in GW23), but we’re sticking with Mukiele after a decent points haul in FPL GW23 for the Frenchman.

Mukiele is still the 7th highest scoring defender in FPL so far this season and has become one of just 8 defenders to have passed 100 points as of GW23. 4.9 points per match is an excellent baseline figure, and it is the fact that Mukiele scores points in such a variety of ways that makes him such a high-scoring and high-value asset. As we wrote last week, “Mukiele is a nailed-90-minute-man who regularly hits the defcon threshold“, but he is also an attacking threat, as his assist in FPL GW23 (his 4th assist and 5th goal involvement of the season) proved. The defender is a top-three creator for Sunderland (4BCC – joint 2nd / 15 CC – 3rd). Burnley have scored the fifth fewest goals and have the 2nd worst xG in the league. Sunderland, on the other hand, have conceded the joint fifth fewest goals, though do sit near the bottom of the league for xGA.

Hill comes into the team following our decisions not to double up on either Sunderland or Arsenal defenders, though he should be regarded as a decent option in his own right as well. The young Bournemouth defender is a fantastic enabler at just 3.9m. Hill has played 90 minutes in all of the last 5 GWs, starting alongside Senesi in the heart of Bournemouth’s defense in a run which has seen the Cherries pick up 8 points.

FACT: Wolves have scored the fewest goals and generated the lowest xG in the league

Bournemouth face Wolves away in FPL GW24 – Wolves remain a team to target. The Midlands side still just has one win all season and have failed to generate over 1xG in all of their last 3 fixtures. Wolves had just 1 shot on target against City in GW23, and managed just 2 in GW22 against Newcastle; as much as their form has improved in recent weeks, they are still a very poor side in all respects. Clearly, this is a fixture to target from a defensive perspective, and Hill is the hottest prospect at Bournemouth at the minute considering his status as a ‘super enabler‘!

FPL GW24 Scout Picks – Midfielders

FPL GW24 Scout Picks Midfielders

We’ve selected a midfield four of Enzo (6.7m), Rogers (7.7m), Semenyo (7.7m), Bruno F (9.5m), and Mbeumo (8.3m) for FPL GW24…

Enzo comes into the team following his good performance in the 10 position against Palace in GW23. While Palmer may well have returned from his injury in time to start this game, Enzo has certainly made himself undroppable, be it playing in the 10 or playing deeper in midfield. 2 shots and 1 chance created against Palace illustrate his impact and positive influence in an advanced position for this Chelsea team. His penalty ultimately put daylight between the two sides to make the game 2-0 after a nervy first period of the game.

FACT: Enzo has an xGI/90 of 0.7 this season, a figure only bettered by Bruno F and Saka amongst midfielders (1000+ minutes).

Rogers joins Enzo in midfield following another impressive game for Villa last GW. Rogers has had 2+ shots and 2+ key passes in each of his last four Premier League matches, producing 2 assists in that time, but certainly deserving more! Rogers is a modern attacking midfielder – he has the pace and physicality to compete in the Prem, but retains the attacking instincts and the ability to produce a magic pass, shot or moment to change games. 7 goals and 5 assists so far this season is outstanding, and Rogers is well on course to beat his 19-goal involvement total from last season.

Villa face Brentford at home in FPL GW24, a side that have conceded 4 goals in their last two matches and over 1xG in all of their last four matches in the league. Rogers has just 2 goal involvements in his last 5 matches, but is certainly deserving of more based on his and his side’s performances.

Semenyo keeps his spot in the team as City travel to face Tottenham away from home. In the ‘home’ league table, Spurs are second from bottom, having picked up just 2 wins and 9 points in 11 matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which surely makes them a team to target…

Semenyo has impressed since his move to City this January, producing 4 goal involvements in his 4 games for his new club. Semenyo is the highest scoring midfielder in FPL, and at just 7.7m, remains a steal. Considering Pep’s tendency to rotate, one should expect Semenyo to be rotated at some point in the near future, but the Spanish manager seemed pleased with his side’s performance against Wolves in FPL GW23, so may well look to stick with a similar line-up (which includes Semenyo) for the foreseeable future. Spurs have a weakness of conceding chances in their left/central areas, a space which Semenyo will surely look to exploit.

PLEASE NOTE: Semenyo got his rest in mid-week in the Champions League as he is not registered with Man City for UCL group stages.

Bruno F and Mbeumo come in as our Manchester United picks for FPL GW24 as the inform Red Devils welcome Fulham to Old Trafford this weekend. Bruno has looked back to his best since moving back into an attacking midfield position for United, while Mbeumo has looked transformed since moving into the striker position in recent weeks. Let’s take a look at the stats…

Since moving into attacking midfield (GW21), Bruno Fernandes has created 13 chances and 7 big chances, resulting in 3 assists. For context, that’s a big chance every 18 minutes (Bruno played 241 minutes over those three games) – that is simply ridiculous. Bruno has returned to the role of creator in chief for this United side, and is being helped by the proficiency of his make-shift number 9 Mbeumo…

In two games in the striker position, Mbeumo has scored 2 goals. In those two games, he hada total of 5 shots and 3 shots on target, an exceptional rate of shot taking and scoring considering the opposition United have faced in those games (City and Arsenal). Fulham are a decent side, but Old Trafford will be rocking, and this United side will take some stopping with the form they’re in!

FPL GW24 Scout Picks – Forwards

FPL GW24 Scout Picks Forwards

Finally, we have our front two of Joao Pedro (7.1m) and Evanilson (7.0m)…

JP saved us in GW23, so deservedly keeps his spot in our AAFPL Scout Picks team. 3 goal involvements in 2 matches under Rosenier and a delectable run of games coming up, JP could soon become a very high ownership asset! Rotation is, of course, a concern, with Delap likely to come in at some point (especially considering the history between him and the new manager), but for now, JP surely keeps his place in the team.

West Ham have conceded the most goals and the second most expected goals in the league so far this season, making them a team to target from an attacking perspective. JP and Enzo are certainly the most attractive Chelsea attacking assets for this fixture, considering the rotation that is likely with regards to wingers.

Evanilson completes the team as we capitalise on Bournemouth’s attractive fixture against bottom-of-the-table Wolves. As mentioned before, Wolves have the third-worst goals against in the league, so this is a defense to target! Evanilson is coming off the back of a goal against Liverpool in FPL GW23 and a run of three goals in four matches in the Premier League, making him one of the most in-form attackers in the league.

His attacking numbers are down this season compared to last, but he remains a good FPL option as Bournemouth are an excellent attacking side, which creates a lot of chances for their striker. Bournemouth are 6th for xG in the league, highlighting their attacking prowess, while Evanilson is under-performing his xG by about 3 goals so far, underlining his wastefulness. The chances are there, the goals will come – hopefully in FPL GW24.
