FPL GW23 Transfer Targets & Watchlist Based on Stats & Eye Test

Welcome to this week’s Transfer Targets and Watchlist, where we look at a few players to target ahead of GW23 and also a few players to target and keep an eye on for the upcoming Gameweeks. The list has three players, one forward, defender, and midfielder each, who are expected to perform well this week, given both form and opposition, these will be “FPL GW23 Transfer Targets”. The list also contains one forward, defender, and midfielder each who should be on your watchlist for the upcoming Gameweeks, again, a combination of form and fixtures.

FPL GW23 Transfer Targets

Nordi Mukiele – £4.4m – 11.5%

Sunderland are currently enjoying a brilliant return to the Premier League. Currently 9th, they have beaten Chelsea, Newcastle United, and have drawn games against Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool & Tottenham. A big part of the reason has been Nordi Mukiele, who has played every single minute since gameweek 3, and hence he starts the list of the best FPL GW23 transfer targets.

In the 1,800 minutes he has played this season, Mukiele has accumulated the 6th highest CBIT, while averaging 9.9 CBIT per 90. In this time, he has also chipped in with 1 goal and 3 assists. He has averaged 0.45 shots, 0.70 key passes, 0.15 big chances created, and most importantly, he has averaged 5.5 points per 90.

Stats from Fantasy Football Hub (You can try out a seven-day free trial, too)

Sunderland have looked very sharp defensively and have only Manchester City and Arsenal have conceded less goals than them. A fixture run which consists of West Ham(A), Burnley (H), Arsenal (A), Liverpool(H), Fulham(H) followed by games against Bournemouth, Brighton, Leeds cannot be ignored. For just 4.4 million, Mukiele should be more or less cemented in your squad.

Bruno Fernandes – £9.2m – 16.3%

I told you to keep a watch on him last week, and this week, I am telling you to get him in as soon as possible! Despite missing 3 League games this season due to a hamstring injury, Bruno still has 14 goal contributions in 19 appearances.

FPL GW23 Transfer Targets - Bruno
He’s also got the highest xGI amongst midfielders via stats.allaboutfpl.com

In these 19 appearances, he has averaged 2.6 shots, 0.77 goal involvements (from 0.7 xGi), 0.83 big chances created, 0.55 big chances received, 3.43 key passes, and 6.42 FPL points per 90 minutes. Despite playing Arsenal this week, I recommend you get Bruno in for the games that follow that game with United playing Fulham(H), Tottenham(H), West Ham United (A), and Everton (A).

Bruno should be one of the first names on your transfer plans this week, especially if a wildcard is in the plans.

Mateus Mané – £4.5m – 1.0%

The first forward in this list and the last player on the FPL GW23 Transfer Targets list is Wolves’ Matues Mane. Wolves are having one of their worst seasons in the Premier League, currently sitting in 20th position.

However, they are unbeaten in their last four games, and a big part of that has been Mane. 3 G/A in the last four games while playing 90 minutes has made Mane a great budget buy.

During this time period, Mane has averaged 1.77 shots, got 0.25 big chances, 0.76 goal involvements (though from 0.1 xGi), 0.25 key passes, and 6.32 points per 90. Most importantly, Wolves might have a double gameweek in GW26, so keep an eye out on that too.

FPL GW23 Transfer Targets - Mane

At just 4.5 million with games against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest in their next five, Mane can help you sort your budget out for premium players while also giving you a player who can provide G/A.

FPL GW23 Watchlist

Trevoh Chalobah – £5.5m – 18.8%

Starting the FPL GW23 Watchlist segment of this FPL GW23 Transfer Targets list is Chelsea’s mainstay defender Trevor Chalobah. The second-highest scoring defender behind Gabriel, Chalobah has been a FPL points magnet.

Chelsea finally kept a clean sheet against Brentford in GW22 after a run of five league games without one. This could change under Liam Rosenior, whose Strasbourg team had the 4th lowest xGC in the league. Chelsea also has a very tempting run of fixtures coming up with them playing West Ham(H), Wolves (A), Leeds (H), Burnley (H) from GW24 to 27.

Chelsea have a great run of fixtures from GW24
Gabriel & Chalobah are the top-scoring defenders
in FPL this season

Chalobah this season has crossed Defcon 10 times, this season averaging around 8.75 CBIT per 90. He has also averaged 0.64 shots, 0.15 big chances, 0.15 key passes, and 5.35 FPL Points, while chipping in with 3 goals and 1 assist.

Keep an eye out for Chalobah, and how Chelsea perform under Rosenior, he could be a must-buy soon!

Enzo Fernandez – £6.5m – 12.0%

Yet another Chelsea player on the FPL GW23 transfer targets list, Enzo Fernandez, like Chalobah, is a player to keep an eye out for.

In 1788 minutes this season, Enzo has scored 6 goals and assisted 3, while crossing the Defcon threshold 2 times. Per 90, Enzo has averaged 2.06 shots, gotten 0.5 big chances, played 1.81 key passes while creating 0.35 big chances.

FPL GW23 Transfer Targets - Enzo

Will Enzo continue playing the same role he did under Maresca, or will he take a more reserved role now that Rosenior is back, is something that is yet to be fully uncovered. However, if he does continue making those runs in the box and has the attacking duties attached to him, with West Ham(H), Wolves (A), Leeds (H), and Burnley (H) from GW24 to 27, Enzo can be a force to be reckoned with.

Thierno Barry – £5.7m – 0.7%

With 3 goals in his last 4 PL starts for the club, Thierno Barry is becoming the best version of himself at Everton. He showed promise at Villareal in the 2024/25 season, where in 25 starts, he scored 11 goals and assisted a further 4.

Rotation has meant that Barry has only gotten around 1,181 minutes this season, but he has made the most of them by scoring 4 goals in his debut season in the Premier League. In this time frame, he has also managed 1.66 shots, 0.68 big chances, 0.3 xGi, 0.45 key passes, and 3.77 FPL points per 90.

With Everton’s fixtures being relatively good until GW29, keep Barry in your watchlists and in your minds, as he could be the next template breaker!
